I don't love WCJ as a player but he's fine as a 5th starer/rotational big man who provides some flexibility and fits with the core. Locking him up for his prime age seasons at a more than reasonable number seems 100% fine.

What does our cap number look like now, in the first year of Paolo's putative max deal, assuming everyone who has a deal past that point is still here?

Gotta be getting up there around/past the 2nd apron...

I don't know and honestly nobody does without having all the details of each contract but I assume our front office knows what they are doing in terms of the future cap implications.

The money seems fine and it appears the last year has some sort of team option as well. Good contract.

nice deal but overall I kind of agree with what one dude on wiretap wrote...

Isaac $70M
Wagner $22M
Bitadze $25M
Carter $59M

Total this season = $56M out of a $140M cap = more than a max contract!

That's a lot to tie up on one position - especially when they small ball with Paolo there at times as well.

I tend to agree .... all these deals are good or very good if you separate them.... but overall we ve got a lot of money tied to BIGS and none of them is elite....like we still would welcome an upgrade on that position...
so woudnt it be better to pay 1-2 very good guys over paying 4 of them ok guys?

Tradeable contracts, seems like KCP was our FA for foreseeable future and we might be looking to improve through trades only.

Isaac is a 4 but the point still has some weight.

Isaac's gonna play a lot more PF than C this year IMO.

So it's really more like 32M in total on the center spot this year.

Not even close, no.

Right now they over $47M below the 2nd apron for next season. That doesn't factor in Suggs, but he's not going to come anywhere close to that.

They're $86M below the 2nd apron for 25-26. Even with Paolo's max extension and whatever Suggs gets, they'll come in under the 2nd apron. And if they desperately need breathing room they have a team option on Cole for 13.1M that they can easily decline.

Reading this board, you’d never guess we went from 22 to 47 wins over the last 2 years with this team, coach and front office. It sounds like we are doomed by the reactions on here lately. IMO the last two years have bought the team several more years of confidence from me before I grab the pitchforks.

It's tiring and then people make you seem like you're the crazy for preaching a little patience in what's obviously not the final form of this team yet. Of course the next part is the actual hardest part of contention, but it's still forming.

But even during Paolo's rookie year people were screaming "We kept the same team?! If we don't win around Paolo, he'll leave!" so.. yeah.. lol.

This group is extremely tight and Orlando is very respected around the league among players. That's why KCP signed with us. That's why these guys keep signing these extensions. Im excited about the possibility of keeping so many of these guys into their prime years and seeing how good this group can become.

Knightro wrote:While I do agree that the actual salary figure on Carter is tradeable, I’m not racing to praise Weltman for signing a guy to a trade friendly contract when he’s shown no inclination whatsoever to actually trade anyone.

That feels a lot more like something we want to happen versus something that is likely to happen.

To be fair, their inclination to make a big trade is at least greater than their inclination (or ability) to sign big free agents.

I'd rather fans dream about a trade than dream about using "cap space." At least it lines up with the modern roster-building style and lack of significant free agency in today's CBA, even if we don't think they'll do anything with it.

My sauces tell me this is a good deal, but I prefer Goga in the SL.

I've mentioned a handful of times that I'd like to see an upgrade at center as much as I'd like to see us get a true pg. I guess that won't be happening this year now. I'll settle for WCJ playing in 75+ games this season.

 Dude can’t even make it through ONE preseason game without getting hurt . 75 regular season games is almost impossible for him.

Suggs and KCP for Ja Morant, and then we'll have all of Mike Miller's clients. NY is CAA, LA is Klutch, and Orlando is Lift.

Morant
AB
Franz
Paolo
Goga

Wendell off the bench

0 leaque average 3 point shooters. 3 players living on drives with questionable shooting + 2 players who no one respects from 3, killing the spacing even more. You trade AB in that case and keep at least one of the shooters in the backcourt. Or you get one in a separated deal and put AB on the bench. But even than you need Franz & Paolo to become much better shooters (Which is a basic requirement in any scenario anyway if we want to be more than a first round exit).
