The business side of this franchise is so annoying.

-I don't know where those $30 seats are, but you'd better bring oxygen...I had season tickets for years, cut it back to 10 or so games, and now a handful or none because the price vs value (for business) was as negative a value as WCJ's extension. I was routinely dropping over $1000 per game for 4 seats and, even as an obsessive fan, I just don't know how people can justify that if not a business expense. Those were good club seats, but by no means, the most expensive package...I rather enjoyed bargain-shopping for the most interesting games (MIN, SAC, OKC...) vs the most overpriced (MIA, NY, LAL...). The old arena was much more realistic, even with a Montecristo Club membership...I did a lot of business there but it was privately owned and they weren't invited to the House Dwight Built.
The owners of this franchise own Amway so these are not good or caring people even it’s a “family owned” team.

nothing this boneheaded organization does anymore surprises me, what a shame. We had tickets for like 27 years. Every time I try to get back into it they give plenty of reasons not to.

Sucks he had to be let go like this.
Progressive move, at the same time.

I’ve lived in other cities with NBA teams, and it’s consistently cheaper for me to watch the Magic on the road than to watch them home in Orlando over the last 8 years. They’re running a racket.

I've got to assume there's a lot of flim flam going on...like your cell phone where they jack up the 20 yr loyal customer, but give it away to the new customer...there's no way they fill that place with those prices in this market
flim flam I say...skullduggery

The crazy part in all of this is that, very soon after this season, they will induct him into the Magic Hall of Fame.

Whoa, whoa...wait a minute.
So the Magic are doing this simply because they want to go in a different direction??
If that's all it is, then this is one of the dumbest moves the organization has ever made - his voice is intertwined with Magic basketball.
You let this man retire when HE'S ready. You HOPE he can do it for another decade...

Maybe they're replacing him with Isaac so he can work off some of that $25 mil salary.

This is the dumbest thing they could’ve done. I can understand if he was declining but he’s not at all.

This doesn't happen if Pat Williams is still with us.
Who knows? Maybe there's a connection.

Re: Paul Porter Out as Public Address Announcer At End Of Season
Haven't been to the arena since the 90s as I live abroad, so it doesn't affect me personally and I don't have the same sense of connection with PP as many of you do.
But the guy is a Magic institution and I don't think that's how you treat people who give their lives to the team. Especially when out the other side of your mouth you preach family and long term. Financially, what would it have cost to have him exit gracefully, compared to what they spend on pampering for the players in the training facility/lockerroom or videos for social media.
Smells pretty shïtty.
That all said, I find the Magic court/media persona to be very Boomer. And I say that as someone who just about makes it into Gen X!
The whole deal needs freshening, imo - fewer old white guy facsimiles who all agree with each other and more energy and contrast.

Certainly a lot of Redditors have speculated on "cognitive decline".
Perhaps, without such speculating, one view is that the Magic organization is being as gentle and kind to Porter as possible. Whatever the circumstances are, whether with out without cause. ( I for one refuse to speculate on that ).
That said: I myself do not know 100% if it is Si-mons or Sim-ons (I don't watch Portland basketball; and have heard Sim-ons in the national press mostly). And certainly mixing it up would be a pretty normal thing to do.
Example: People I know misspeak and misspell my surname (last name) ALL the time. And it only has five letters in it!

We literally had Jonathon Simmons on our team not that many years ago.

I like Paul Porter a lot.
But, I'd be happy if every knucklehead on RealGM who can't get Simons' name right (there's a lot and it's consistent with some) got fired instead.
