No market, injured, and the center rotation is secured leaving Moe as a luxury, not a necessity.

He certainly has. He is now our second most tenured player. You would think the Magic would reward him later on but this is also a business. Having his brother on the team is a big dynamic shift.

Im glad because Im not fully done with the Wendell vs Goga argument.

We are in the tax I believe, I'll dump Jett if we want to avoid doing that. We dont have to do it until trade deadline

Goga at 7.6 mil vs WCJ at 18.1 mil in 26-27 makes the argument even more worth having with the way the team finances are shaping up.

What everyone has to understand, and same goes for goga. These were players struggling to stay in the league and we gave them a shot. Both players have mentioned how grateful they are to the Magic for giving them the opportunity, otherwise they might not be in the league right now. Moe right now is just paying it forward with the addition of having a chance to win a ring with his brother. Goga would probably do the same.

The $11m for Moe's last contract at the time of signing was a slight overpay, same can be said for goga as a third stringer.

Thank god.

I do feel for Moe, though. I love that guy and it feels like the team is kind of taking advantage of the fact that he's injured, even though he was balling before that (and by all accounts he SHOULD be back by the start of next season). And yet again he's getting underpaid while the top 4, JI and Wendell get absolutely showered in cash. But I am grateful for his sacrifice and excited to see him bag in a Magic jersey next season.

edit: and that reported no-trade-clause is just a way of the Magic saying "We promise we won't deal you no matter what.", which I guess is a nice gesture to compensate for this lowball deal (a little).

Nice! As much as I ragged on his defense at times, and I don't think an ACL injury will help him on that end even more lol, he is an amazing scorer and we sorely need him off the bench.

That makes the most sense to me...Weltman says here's what I will do and Moe's agent wisely says "Fine...but put a ring on it" (NTC). The no-trade clause makes me feel a little better about what Moe's state of mind might be - you only want to push the guy so far, regardless of whatever leverage the team holds (injured, noone has cap space, etc). You could say that Goga vs WCJ is now the battle for survival, because Moe's getting a raise next summer.

When we win the championship next season, we have to find a way to stay competitive while cutting salary.

Next what, center? Yeah I don't think we are throwing a 6'7 center out there no matter his weight or wingspan

He took a pay cut to prioritize playing with his brother. Magic did right by him with the no-trades clause. Hopefully they take care of him next offseason. Gives the Magic a year to try to clean their books.

That's a LOUD extra $2M. Jett is probably gone. The NTC is also interesting. I suspect the Denver development with Jonas gave Moritz the leverage to pull this off.

By February we will see how effective a Tyus/Mo$ bench unit will be.

Very happy about re-signing Moritz.

Glad to see mo back I look at the no trade clause as a promise to get him on a longer term deal next summer. Does it have to wait until next off-season or can they work on an extension during the season?

While Tyus and Mo are both below average defenders, we've seen evidence of Isaac and Mo playing very well together in bench lineups already with Isaac able to cover for Mo's deficiencies very well. I think the same will be true of Tyus and AB. We'll see if having two weaker links in the chain causes too many holes, but I'm not super worried about it.

Definitely. The argument can expand to include JI at around 15 for the next 3 years. I mean I love the idea of JI playing the level of defense he's shown capable of in the past for less than he's been payed in the past but at the same time he backs up Paolo. If TDS or Penda proves capable of handling those minutes at the back up 4 then there's plenty of salary between WCJ, Goga and JI to be active in getting a real difference making center with Mo as the backup and then add any Bamba or on the cheap as 3rd string.

Hope he gets back to near 100%. What date did he suffer the tear?
