Wasn't Dwight supposed to be the epitome of religion in the NBA. David Robinson take 2?

I think thats the only reason that its coming up. If he were a thug, i doubt anyone would care.

Agreed.

Didn't he want the cross to be on the logo.

How is he going to respond when a youngster asks him about sex, marriage, children, etc?

I care about players' off-court lives too, since it effects their play on the court. That said, this doesn't at all change my opinion of Dwight, other than the fact that he needs to learn to wear a condom...

He would give the same hypocritical response that everyone does. :D

You know, MagicFan3 you hit it right on the head, Dwight's a muscle bound athlete with fame and money, he probably had women on him every time he turns a corner. Even with his spiritual background we have to remember 1 thing, he's human and he's 21. 21 year olds aren't exactly good at stepping back and making informed decisions, especially with that kind of stimulus. It's purely an emotional thing. And as far as the virgin thing goes....

I distinctly remember him hanging with some porn whore for a while. So if you think something didn't happen there just keep your head in the sand.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

Damn, what a surprise. This is news I never thought I'd see. It seems to be true though. Best of luck to him and his new family.

i could care less what howard does in his personal life. interesting to read about maybe. but to pass judgement on this because he is a christian is silly. i know i would get with that girl too. maybe not have a kid. but i highly doubt dwight was planning on a child either.

I just hope they plan on staying together, for the sake of D12 Jr.

I'm sure Little Dwight and Jameer Jr. will be good friends too.

This news completely shocks me. I'm not entirely sure why the Orlando Sentinel felt this was a good topic for an article. Dwight made it perfectly clear he acknowledges it and is excited about it, yet did not want it out in the public. This would seem to be something that could potentially turn the city's star player against the local news, but that is beside the point.

As for commenting on his religious background, that is why this is a shock to me. However, as many have said, he is young and it is quite easy to make mistakes. That is human nature, and were humans able to achieve perfection, what need would there be for religion? It seems he is owning up to it and making the best of the situation, trying not to be an absentee father. I wonder if he didn't want to follow up the relationship with her and she begged to differ. However, I do see Dwight as a positive guy who has a good head on his (enormous) shoulders, so I think his son will have a very caring and responsible father.

It is interesting that Dwight is such good friends with Jameer, who is also a devout Christian and also has a child out of wedlock. Perhaps Jameer will serve as a mentor of sorts to him in this regard. It is always nice to have someone to relate to in difficult times.

If it was anyone else I'd say he's too young to be a dad..most 21 year olds are still trying to finish up college etc unless they went straight to work out of high school...but this will make him more responsible and he can afford it.

good luck to dwight.

I agree. Good points everywhere. And i dont like the angle that the sentinel took, it makes them look silly and unresponsible and gives people assumptions. Give the man some privacy.

In the present world we live in, probably not. But, Dwight is a pretty devout Christian, isn't he?

The 3 monotheistic religions (Islam, Christianity, & Judaism) all view sexual relations before marriage as wrong and as a sin....
