This has probably been posted....but

No Magic Deals : The Orlando Magic look to be sitting today out. GM Otis Smith worked the phones hard for the last three weeks trying to shake loose some front court help, but at the end of the day teams wanted far too much, according to well placed sources. The Magic have had eyes for Udonis Haslem and pushed hard to get a deal, but sources near the HEAT explain that Udonis was pulled to the side this week and told to ignore the trade rumors that he was likely not going anywhere; that he was part of the solution in Miami, not part of the problem.

The Magic have had talks with the Sonics about Kurt Thomas, who was dealt yesterday and sniffed at Chris Wilcox - again, too rich for Orlando's liking. The Magic seem interested in a deal, but the odds of a major move seems somewhat remote, unless a team lowers the price between now and 3pm.

I expect some teams to panic and lower their demands as the deadline aproaches.

This is our best chance to improve our team and everyone, including otis smith, knows that this team as is isnt good enough to win a title. As far as im concerned, Otis Smith sitting on his hands instead of attempting to improve the team means hes not doing his job. It could also be argued that by allowing this opportunity to impove the team to pass he is intentionally sabotaging the team. If this isnt grounds for termination i dont know what is.

I wish i had a job where i could sit around doing nothing and get paid for it.

Man you are crazy and unreasonable. There have been several reports saying that Otis has been talking to several teams and even he himself has said that he has talked to teams so he is not "sitting on his hands". And you truly believe that he is intentionally sabotaging the team? Grow up man. What benefit would Otis Smith get from intentionally sabotaging a team?

I dont mean he is trying to sabotage the team on purpose. What i mean is, his actions are doing just that. So by making as many bad decisions as he has made, he is sabotaging any possible success this team can have with dwight howard.

So he's intentionally doing things to ruin the team? Since that's what sabotage means.

I'm not sure how he'd be sabotaging the team by not acting on lopsided trades which are not in our favor.

Would you trade Hedo to get Brad Miller?

Miami withdrew their offer for Haslem.

To Kurt Thomas it took a 1st round pick.

I don't see how these are smart moves for the Magic. But Otis passing on these is "Otis sabotaging the team"

come on Gato. No one here is talking about Hedo. As the thread title indicates we are talking arroyo and Otis statement that indicates he would let not having a backup to a backup PG be the reason to not make a trade.

That trade is understood by everyone here to be a good power forward. If not then it can be shot down on its own merits not because it leaves us without a backup to a backup PG.

Otis needs to get something done before the deadline. This is his third shot at getting a half decent PF. His comments that he got the PF but now everyone wants him to get another one borders on blindness. Cook is no answer for a real PF. I'm hoping he's just putting that out there to not look too desperate to get what he needs.

Otis has been a terrible card player

Give up JJ, Arroyo and Garrity and a first round pick for Haslem

or give up

Arroyo and Garrity and a first round pick for Wilcox - we need a PF

we can always pick up a vet PG for the league minimum for added insurance

I understand about the title of the thread, but certain posters are saying that if Otis doesn't do anything he's sabotaging the team and should be fire ASAP.

He's been quoted repeatedly as saying that we need a defensive PF. So I don't think wants to put all his PF eggs in the Lewis/Cook basket.

I have no problem with trading Arroyo, as long as we at least get another combo guard/vet PG for insurance sake's - via trade or free agency.

Reported Miami doesn't want to (a) deal Haslem and (b) especially to us.

Reports are that they want more than that.

I will be very upset with Otis is he stays pat with what we have - it would be horrible not to make a move of our expiring contracts - Garrity and Arroyo - call every GM and say what will you give us for these two guys - he is going down to the wire - he may get lucky, but he may just blow it once again - Darko - idiotic move - should have been signed the year before, Rashard - good move, but he over paid and bid against himself - I think we could have gotten him for $75 to $80m and we didn't need to give him the 6th year on top of it - good pick up, but he probably over paid, then you let GHill walk and get nothing in return, you don't play JJ and he may end up walking at some point with nothing in return. Lets make a move and show a little guts like San Antonio - give up a late first rounder if we have to - we have a solid team - we can afford to give up a late first rounder.

So we should make a move just for the sakes of making a move?

And SA is already a serious threat for the championship. The moves they need to make vs the ones we do are very different.

Nothing too major here:

NJ Gets: J.J. Redick, Carlos Arroyo and a 2nd round pick
ORL Gets: Dasagna Diop and Trenton Hassell

(note: because of restrictions on Swift/Diop/Hassell, it would be three separate trades. Trade 1: Diop for Redick/2nd rounder. Trade 2: Hassell for Arroyo.)

Why for NJ: They further the rebuilding process and gain further financial flexibility by dumping the contract of Hassell. Redick has been a massive disappointment so far, but NJ is sorely lacking at the wings and maybe the change of scenery will help.

Why for ORL: Magic fans on this board have talked about how they need more defense and this deal gives them two good defenders. Diop gives them a young shot-blocker while Hassell provides good perimeter defense. They also do it without sacrificing any 1st rounders or major contributors.

or if orlando won't do that, you put garrity instead of arroyo

on the trade board this is a major hit, with every poster liking it.

Will all those teams looking for expirings, we can't get a fair trade???

There's Wilcox, Joe Smith, Mike Miller, any guy who could help Howard on defense.

I can't believe it because no wonder : we are not the last year's Cavaliers...
