Re: Official Speculation Thread ‘18-19’: XX: Year of the Vuc
I’ll try this again. D roses game has matured and his outside shoot has improved. He will not come as cheap as he would last offseason, but we should go hard after him this offseason. Give him the keys and the starting point guard spot.
I believe he will be an all star again. I don’t think he done, his game is actually still improving and he is still more athletic than most nba players, even after the injury history, but he has not had an Health issues in a few years that I recall. Health permitting he could easily play until 35.
With rose, Gordon, JI, and yes Vuch, I am confident we have three all stars and another draft pick, bamba possibly if he develops, and Fournier at shooting guard works. I hope the front office sees it, go get rose, his story is not done, he knows it. Big money, injury clause in contract, resign Vuch.
Rose
Fournier
Gordon
JI
Vuch
This team challenges Toronto, and I like Toronto to push the warriors this year. But I have already witness Gordon and JI give leonard real problems. But I do like Toronto this year, I think they can push the warriors

Everyone knows they are sitting on their hands (and farting on them lol) doing NOTHING, and collecting that check.

They have a plan. We just dont know what the hell it is. There are so many PG backup and starting right now in NBA teams that are tradeable and we chose to stay with the DJ/Grant backcourt....top 3 worse in the NBA.
They have to be cooking something either before deadline or offseason to be this patient. If you really want to win now and make the PO. How the f*ck do you roll out the season with this backcourt?
Something is gonna change.....soon
They will likely just wait until free agency this offseason. There are quite a few options and we can still draft a PG and let him develop behind a vet. I don’t want a rookie PG running this team, we need the exact opposite.
D rose!
Dragic as a backup option.

I'm gonna have to say they may have a new plan, because Grant was part of the plan. They evaluated and decided to target him in a trade to get rid of BB. Then they went a little further and sought high and wide and went to Europe to sign Briscoe. They thought they would make a difference, lol. So yeah, how indeed the F do you do that and it was on purpose? Idk. They did though. So i am not so sure of their precious plan. I do not think they thought we'd be a potential playoff team, but they clearly are not aggressively trying to pursue something to increase our chances now that they see Clifford is making a difference. I'm glad someone is confident of their ability because I definitely am not.
I think this is part of it. Despite having an awful bench, no real starting PG, this team is still in the playoff picture in the East. I think they expected the lottery again this year so this has been a pleasant surprise so far.
So do they make an unexpected and sudden move to improve the team? Even with a starting level PG we are not getting past the 1st round. Just making the PO would be a successful season. But this FO is thinking long term so thats why as frustrating as it may be, we will most likely stay pat until the offseason and not make any sudden knee-jerk reaction moves for short immediate success that will just lead to a 1st round exit.
Offseason gonna be very interesting. I think the wet dream is luring Kemba with the Clifford connection but I dont see him leaving CHA.
Kemba would be incredible of course, but there are actually a lot of free agent PG options this offseason. I do belive we are an attractive option for a free agent at this point, great coach, good supporting cast, and even room to improve with internal development. This is when the JI pick in particular will begin to pay off, he is a star role player, and free agents will see the blossoming potential of AG, and the all around game of Vuch. We are officially a good destination.
1) go after kemba, we have to try
2) d rose, I’m a fan of his maturing game, he will be in another all star game
3) dragic not a bad consolation prize
We can still draft a PG this year. But I have no interest in starting a rookie PG, this team is ready to compete with a vet PG! Let’s go
1) throw ever

Grant was a one year punt towards a 2019 summer more rich in free agent point guards.
I don’t expect much from you guys but come on ... just a hint of common sense is all I ask.
Yep, rich free agent PG year. Patience and who do we target. I like rose, no one wants to buy in, but I think has something still prove . Mentioned above , but I think he sees another all star game. Of course kemba would be amazing , but hard to see him turning down the huge pay day, we have to a least try though

Not trading Ross would be a huge mistake.
We need to cash in asap. Contenders will be all over him if we put him on the trading block

Rose seems like he is just playing with unsustainable shooting. He's never been this efficient even in his young days, and shooting 48% from 3 when known as a non-shooter until this season.

That's my point. The better players are not going to consider us a trade option or free agent option if we are bottom feeders every year. It will not happen. Gotta make ourselves respectable.BadMofoPimp wrote:BAMBAEXPRESS wrote:BadMofoPimp wrote:
I guess that makes 28 other teams GM's still evaluating with their fans wondering why they are not making mad trades like they can in NBA2K. As if it is that easy.
We don’t need to be making mad trades or doing anything reckless. But adding a 20 year old rookie who needs years to develop his game and body and some fringe NBA players to a lottery team doesn’t scream ‘hope’ or ‘progress’.
Where is this team going to get it’s growth? We have maxed out as a fringe 8th seed playoff team. Will get destroyed by Toronto in first round, end up with the 17th pick in the draft and wheel out the same team for the 2019-2020 season.
If the team makes the playoffs this year, that is called development. Each year they will keep getting better. You don't go from Bottom to Contender in one or two years. And, if the team keeps growing then it will get easier to obtain talented Free Agents or make better trades.

How about Vuc? David Griffin said that he could yield us a big haul because of the lack of quality players available this year.

If we could somehow turn Vuc and Ross into Fultz and Jaylen Brown it might be tempting.

Only the Bucks have had a harder schedule than us so far in the east. If we somehow can get up to 6th and face the 76ers in the first round we might have a chance. Philly is a better team but we matchup up well with them.

I would think Philly would be the worst match up for us. Would rather play Milwaukee or maybe even Boston. Every season we seem to be able to win in Boston even though I think their team is a lot better.

Trading Harris, Dipo, and Sabonis has got us Ross and probably 3 second round picks if OKC is in the top 20 in 2019. I agree with Cedric that we have to get something for Ross.

Sunk cost fallacy. We're already getting wins from him, a leader for the second unit, and probably a great locker room environment.
His value is great, but he's already doing good things for us and it's not worth looking at the series of trades that got him here. We'll be beating our selves up for a long time if we did that and it's not fair to Ross

I tend to agree but I heard commentator (I wish I could remember who) commenting on how Rose has altered his shot to launch on the way up (not at the peak) like Curry, Trae Young, and some others. Much more sustainable form with fatigue...I haven't watched him but makes some sense in explaining such a huge improvement. Time will tell.

SAme.. a dominating Center that would get Vuc in foul trouble, plus huge PG to easily take advantage the weakness in our own PG spot..
MIL.. if Giannis is off/out we could have a chance. BOS... have they got t together already? If Gordon,Brown and Tatum solves thier current playing time problem then it's tough...

I completely understand the context of which it was said, why are you embarrassed by it getting brought up all the time? Are you a member of the Devos family? It was a weird ass thing to say regardless and it's going to keep being brought up on here as long as this team continues to have no direction for the future.
As part of a series the Orlando Sentinel published this weekend on what Orlando will look like in 2030, Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel asked the Magic CEO for his predictions on the team. Martins was confident the Magic will win a title in the future:
“I certainly believe by 2030 we will have won a championship,” Martins said. I firmly believe we’re going to get there and once you get there, you got the kind of team that hopefully can come back. I believe we will have won a championship.”
Sorry but your post suggests you didn’t read the Martins quote - he didn’t say the goal is to win a championship by the year 2030 and we’ll base our tanking / team building around that. He was asked where the Magic would be in 2030 and he said his hope is that they would have won a championship and have a winning team.
And it’s embarrassing because people should take the time to appreciate the context of what people say. It raises the level of debate at a time when this is at an all-time low in all areas of society generally. I’m not saying you didn’t take the time to do this, I think you just misread the quote.
I think this a is a cultural thing my friend in that we see the quote differently. I am a shoot from the hip American, have taken what he said and chosen to take liberties into reading into what is hidden behind the vale. Having watched Martins for years, I can fill in the gap to what I believe is happening. You on the other hand are a Scot. You seem to want to take a man at his literal word and while that should be the case...I'm skeptical slick Alex deserves that level of respect.
Fair enough - I must admit that I am not a Scot though I am married to one. I need to update my location as haven’t been in Edinburgh for a while.

Re: Official Speculation Thread ‘18-19’: XX: Year of the Vuc
It’s concerning the number of posters suggesting point guard solutions with 28-30 year old players.
Sure, it gives Orlando a veteran presence for a year or so, but it doesn’t solve anything long term. I get that people are buying into making the playoffs this year for some reason, but there is no ceiling after that.
Players like Dragic or Rose have a small window of time before they retire. They aren’t going to spend their remaining time in the league merely trying to make the playoffs. Don’t understand how people don’t get that.

A lot of value has been lost with what has transpired with those trades in retrospect. Also, the fact that Ross is a 28 y/o inconsistent role player on an expiring contract (and unrestricted) will most likely yield offers of late first round picks at best. I can't see a scenario where this team gets anything in return for him.
