Arenas would just be another guy in Miami who would be jumping up and down like he really helped them when they win it all this year.

The guy can still score but has lost that step.

I really like the way Gordon Hayward plays, to be we couldn't have got him somehow. There are so many great players in this league that are young and we only have one (Dwight Howard).

I think we need a firesale just to get one solid piece besides Dwight and go from there. I think Big Baby is a good addition. I think our next best asset is JJ, he is the only one on our team that can knock down a free throw come clutch time in playoffs. Thats where we needed a guy like Chauncey Billups this year, guy never missed free throws.. especially in playoffs.

We would have already won a championship if Dwight could make important free throws, if Vince Carter could have knocked down 2 free throws against Boston in ECF, if Jameer didn't let DFisher walk up the court and drain threes in his face with no hand up.

Our talent is right there, its just about having championship pedigree and mentality, which is why I like Big Baby bringing that attitude to the locker room. We need that killer instint. I like matt barnes off the bench

Actually, we are just a hair UNDER the luxury tax right now, and it doubtful that we will go OVER this year. We are going to let the Gortat TPE expire and not use the MLE.

Being able to amnesty Arenas means we:
1) have a real reason to boot his suck ass once and for all
2) don't have to pay dollar for dollar on him. Anyone who thinks paying him 60 mil to go away is crazy, paying the luxury tax to keep him would be INSANE (would end up costing over 100+ mil)
3) can use this year to get under the new CBA "repeat offender" luxury tax (starting in 2013 teams who pay lux tax 4/5 previous years pay an extra dollar)
4) can get a share of the luxury tax dividend (instead of being one of the teams who pays it)
5) will be able to offer non taxpayer 5mil/4year MLE next summer instead of the 3mil/3year taxpayer max

No really, they're ecstatic.

I've seen prisoners happier to get their jumpsuits. If you photoshopped a newspaper into Al-Farouq Aminu's hands, you'd get a hostage photo.

How about a little enthusiasm fellas?

Looks like Dwight to LA is taking shape guys

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Andrew Bynum is realistic. He knows that if the Los Angeles Lakers finally end up piecing together a trade with the Orlando Magic for Dwight Howard, it's tough to argue against the move.

"I think Dwight is a great player and obviously if the Lakers can get him for the right deal, it would be worthwhile," Bynum said after the Lakers' film session on Saturday. "But, if they want too much [in return], it won't go through."

That is an interesting portion of the quote. How much is too much? The Lakers only has 2 trade pieces, if that's too much am not sure what to say. On a another note they signed both Josh McRoberts and Troy Murphy. Looks like they're stockpiling those stretch fours

. "I don't care ... I'll be happy anywhere I play, honestly. It doesn't really matter to me. In Orlando, I'll probably get more shots and more touches, but here, I think this year they'll need me to step up here. So, it really doesn't matter." ESPN.com

Odom is now gone, Gasol+Bynum might very well be gone after the trade.....and now you are going to a MUCH less deep team with a year-older Kobe, a team that would then have like 80% of its cap going to two players in Kobe and Dwight, with very little cap maneuverability for years to come?

This...but somehow dwight thinks him and deron could win it all. LOL.
Dwight never struck me as a real smart guy. He thinks his window is closing and he's only in his mid to late 20's...

Say no to Bynum. He gets injured every 5 seconds. Skill wise he could be great but he is always hurt. Just look at how many games he has missed the last 4 seasons.

I think people need to stop handing Miami the championship yet again. They failed last year. There are many good teams in this league that can beat them. As was proven last year...even Orlando stacked up well against them.

Their championship hopes rest squarely on Dwayne Wade staying healthy. Wade is 30 in a couple weeks. With his body I'd say his window is four more years including this year. Lebron has hit a wall. No more improving. What you see is what you get!
He will never win it on his own, so he's got a few years left to piggy back off of Wade. Bosh benefited deep in the playoff season by having Carlos Boozer and Dirk Nowitsky check him.
So any team with a solid back court and big men who play defense is going to stop them. They got the best possible match up to win a championship last year and they failed.
Miami can roll to a title but they have to avoid playing one of these eight teams.

West
Oklahoma City, Memphis, Lakers (if Gasol and Bynum healthy), San Antonio
East
Orlando/Brooklyn (whichever team lands Dwight), New York, Atlanta, Indiana

Why is everyone screaming about that stupid tpe?
A vast majority of the time they expire without being used, and for good reason.
You have to find a guy that is worth picking up, whos current team is ok with getting rid of him for no player in return (they would want to get rid of junk, not decent players usually) and whos salary also matches the tpe or is less... That is not easy to find and so most just expire. It really isn't a big deal IMHO.

I think he is getting marching orders directly from management. We won't use the TPE and add more salary because no one we want is available for the TPE. I really think management is holding on to Dwight until the allstar game. If in a couple weeks he really buys into finishing the season here, they might make a swing for Ellis or Stephen Jackson and if they don't. Well they'll be looking to drop salary for a shot at Deron.

Well I know you cant use it in a trade with players on both sides involved but you can make a separate trade to give the other team some salary relieve. You could always structure a trade around lets say ellis and in a separate trade use the TPE to take a player a player back which the GW don't want.

Problem is the TPE is not even $6.5 million. I did some searching around the league and there are not really any decent options that teams are looking to dump. Most "bad" contracts that teams look to jettison are over $7 million a year. You cannot even get a player like Trevor Ariza for the TPE, he makes too much..

Since we resigned both Earl and J-Rich to reasonable deals, and Phoenix traded Pietrus for a second rounder and waived Vince, that trade ended up breaking down as Phoenix getting: Gortat (a fifteen minute a game backup on our team), a late first round pick last year, and future second rounder. In exchange, we got Hedo (who does still play quite well when motivated; remember those triple-doubles right after the trade), Earl Clark (a lotto pick, if I recall, and a promising youngster with a knack for defense), and Jason Richardson, who has the capability to average twenty a game when properly utilized.

Yes, we gave up a good player in Gortat and took on a not-so-great contract in Hedo, but it's not as though we got killed in that trade. I think we actually ended up coming out ahead with it--regardless if we use the TPE or not.

Rationality on the Magic board. I was beginning to think it had fled for the general board vowing never to return :D .

Anthony Johnson was horrible. You serious? Pietrus just checked step back fadeaway 3's and stepped out of bounds every other play. Was really a pretty lazy player. Q-Rich was useless last season. Matt Barnes I'll give you. He lasted a season. Alston I'll give you. He lasted a season. We weren't being labelled a dirty team. Dwight was being labeled a dirty player.

which Otis then promptly showed the door too. I liked AJ, liked Pietrus before he started only chucking 3's. But then they were moved and Dwight had to defend alone again.

We do a trade with Denver and use our TPE for "Birdman" :

C-Dwight Howard/Chris Anderson/Daniel Orton
PF-Glen Davis/Al Harrington/Justin Harper
SF-Jason Richardson/Earl Clark/Q.Rich
SG-J.J. Redick/Von Wafer/DeAndre Liggins

I love Birdman, but no way Denver gives him up. They still think they got a shot to make the playoffs out there. If they were in full rebuild mode they would not have paid Nene that money.
