I was confident that Shaw would be our coach a few weeks ago, but now I expect it to be Mike Malone.

GM is the most important move right now. I like Shaw but will be happy with Malone. We need someone who can actually draft and build this team around D12. He does have his work cutout for him with the mess Otis left.

Can someone give me a high overview of Malone and his strengths?

I went through the Warriors board and majority of their fans say Malone was defensive minded and good with x's & o's.

Take it for what it's worth, but DJChino (102Jamz) who loosely knows a lot of the guys, told me that Jameer packed up his stuff and moved his cars out 3 weeks ago.

true, but why was an extension needed if hes so hell bent on leaving?

NO clue whatsoever. Just relaying what i was told. Which is why i said "for what its worth." because it doesn't make sense to me.
A smart coach once said, "Potential just means you're not good enough yet." Playing on potential is like living on air: It's essential, but if thats all you have, you're eventually going to starve.

The front office already knows how to spell his last name.

Its really not fair to Shaw for us to make him wait this long to make a decision, if he does indeed get the Bobcats job good for him.

Good coaches can afford to wait and then pick and choose. Thibadeau did that to NOR when he spurned them to take the CHI job.

Shaw should do the same. Pass on CHA and take ORL.

Re: Bobcats coach search - RT @sam_amick: Breaking (...) Brian Shaw looking good after meeting with MJ- http://bit.ly/LpANWl

After Sloan pulling out, Shaw is the frontrunner in Charlotte. Shaw also on Portland's radar.
Hall of Fame coach Jerry Sloan told SI.com he pulled out of the running for the Charlotte Bobcats head coaching job.

Sloan was believed to be one of three finalists to replace Paul Silas after he was fired in late April, but it now appears the job will go to either Pacers assistant Brian Shaw or Lakers assistant Quin Snyder.

"I took myself out today," Sloan said by phone. "I don't want to comment on it because it's never profitable for anybody. It just makes it sound like you're making a statement about someone. But they were wonderful and there were no problems. I just took myself out."

While Sloan met with Bobcats owner Michael Jordan about the job May 25, a source close to the situation said Shaw met with Jordan on Thursday and that the meeting was "excellent." Snyder, who spent the 2010-11 season as a 76ers assistant and three years as an NBDL coach (Austin Toros) after his seven-year run as head coach of Missouri, was also expected to meet with Jordan this week, but it's not known when that will take place.

After his abrupt resignation midway through the 2010-11 season in Utah, Sloan has been clear about his desire to return to the sideline. While there are openings in Portland and Orlando, he said he has not had any contact with either team.

"I wasn't involved in (those situations), and people said I was but I wasn't at all," Sloan said. "I only talked to Michael Jordan. That's it."

Sloan insisted he wasn't disappointed.

"No, not at all," he said. "Whatever happens, happens. I don't have any control over those things. I just do what we've got to do. If somebody calls me, I guess I'd listen to what they have to say. But I don't have an agent, and if somebody calls I'd be willing to listen to them."

Shaw, the longtime Lakers assistant who was a finalist for the Cavaliers job that went to Byron Scott in 2010, was expected to be a candidate for the Trail Blazers job as well.

Yet the fact that his meeting with Jordan went very well is significant, as a source with knowledge of the situation said the Bobcats owner was considering re-opening the process to more candidates if he wasn't adequately impressed by the finalists. And while it would seem Shaw is the clear frontrunner here, a source close to the situation said a decision has not yet been made.

Dammit, guess Sloan didn't want to lose 50 games a yr.

Just highly thought of around the league by front offices & players. He was on Dwights list of coaches & also on CP3s list of coaches to replace Del Negro back when they were struggling:

According to a source, Chris Paul has Golden State Warriors Assistant Coach Mike Malone on his short-list of preferred Del Negro replacements. Malone was the lead assistant with the Hornets when Paul led the team to an impressive series against the Los Angeles Lakers in 2011, despite a season-ending injury to David West.

He is also the highest paid assistant in the league & its nice to see high profiled players prefer him.

Thanks. I remember him being on both players' short list. If we get him, and Paul goes through another season of dealing with Del Negro, Malone & Dwight could do a good sales pitch in 2013. I didn't know he was lead assistant with Hornets. I wonder what Malone's relationship is with Bower?

Legion Sports ‏@MySportsLegion

Brian Shaw is likely going to be offered the Bobcats head coaching job, source says: "The job is basically is, 95% chance, it's his"

Not sure how legit "Legion Sports" is anymore after getting the Nelson opting out thing wrong today.
Evan Dunlap ‏@BQRMagic

Per @KevinDing, Shaw "is believed to prefer Orlando" over Charlotte: http://lakers.ocregister.com/2012/06/14 ... ach/73139/

Sam Amick ‏@sam_amick
@KevinDing reporting that Brian Shaw wants the Orlando job and that Lakers assistant Quin Snyder could be the guy in Charlotte.

Ken Berger ‏@KBergCBS
Finalist Jeff Bower will go to Grand Rapids, Mich., to meet with the DeVos family and the #Magic are expected to hire a GM early next week.

Ken Berger ‏@KBergCBS
Spurs exec Dennis Lindsey and Thunder exec Rob Hennigan already had been scheduled to meet with owner Rich DeVos.

Sam Amick ‏@sam_amick
I'm told that Brian Shaw has not pulled himself out of the running for the Charlotte job, FWIW. Stay tuned. No final decision expected today

Sam Amick ‏@sam_amick
That being said, Shaw has legit interest in both the Portland and Orlando jobs. If I had to put one ahead of the other, it'd be Blazers.

So no GM til next week and Bower is still in this.

I want Jerry Sloan as the head coach here.
I don't understand Orlando, how hard would it truly have been to give Phil Jackson or Jerry Sloan a call and say that "we might be interested?" I mean, all they can say is NO but if you never call, you'll never know what could happen. I didn't realize that Orlando need a whole new FO, this is ridiculous.

If Lindsey wants the job and they have to THINK about him or Bower, then they all should stay away from basketball.
