Exactly why he was picked.

He looks like one of our sponsor’s money maker.

He's also just a really good basketball player.

He looks completely different and bigger when he's on the court. He's the same exact height as Derozan with only 1 inch less wingspan. That size running the point is going to stand out from day 1. He also draws fouls like Derozan. I have a feeling that guards are naturally going to want to hold and foul him. It happens when you're playing against a player that's bigger and more athletic.

Rookies almost never contribute to winning, especially point guards. If our only goal is to make playoffs next season Fultz will be better option than Black. Cole is also better but last season we had little offense from the bench and he was crucial spark plug. This year its more of the same unless Jett Howard is great or Suggs learns how to dribble
Best option would be to cut Fultz and sign some veteran who is good both on and off the ball.
We are in a akward position. We need to choose if we want to win more or develop more.

Both PG's that Knightro highlighted were better as rookies than Fultz was last year. It is rare but the good ones come out of the gate better than Fultz is right now.

It will be hard for the front office to justify starting a rookie while we want to make playoffs. Regardless if he is better or not than Fultz, other players could have problems with that. Fultz is not a good player, but he is liked among teammates and he does everything except shooting 3s to be liked by the fans. If something goes wrong it will be easy to blame Weltman i dont know if he wants to risk that.
Signing FVV would solve a lot of problems.( create some new ones)

Wow.... some of these hot takes... :-/

hope he really makes everyone believers again this season.

Those are not hot takes, dude is 25 and doesnt have anything he is good at besides shooting midrangers. Look at his stats and tell me what makes him a GOOD player. Becouse i dont see it on film and i dont see it looking at stats. What am i missing ? He is average at best.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Injuries may have stunted his growth because it doesn't appear that his numbers have plateued yet. I know Vuc didn't start shooting threes until he was 26 and had a big jump in his TS. Markelle could do the same.

It's not like the guy didn't have to battle through recovery from TOS... after it was misdiagnosed by everyone and he was labeled a bust for it. I'm not a pro or anything... buuuuuut... I'm going to go off on a limb and guess that a shoulder is an important thing for shooting. Now... this has to be managed.... and it's like once he felt better that they said... go ahead and just jack up 1000 3's a day... as that could jeopardize his health again if not managed properly. The last 2 season have been marred by leg injuries.... one a knee injury that based on the sh** he was doing at the end of the season... athleticism is no longer an issue. then there was a toe that stripped him of the opportunity to practice and develop with our new core. I think they are going to love playing with Fultz once they are on the same page... where to cut and where to relocate. All that comes from practice and game reps. The BEST of Fultz and Franz/Paolo connections have just started. He showed a desire to let it fly at the end of the season... as he shifted from the parts of his game that he focused on utilizing and sharpening the skills he was more comfortable with. Down the stretch when play-ins were no longer a possibility.... he said "f*** it" and let it fly. Literally... lol.... but of course people had to make a big issue about that... "oh he's just saying it to get a new contract" and building their own narratives to continue their cycle of dislike. But hey... overlooking all of his talents and boiling it down simply to "he can't 3s right now and i don't think he ever will... cuz i say so" is a fallacy for some. We know he was decent at shooting before the NBA... had an injury that derailed his career... and we know that he's doing his best to build back up his confidence and continue his growth... YES... even at 26. Trajectory has been shifted... but his path to possible greatness still exists. Not sure if he will ever make it... but if I was a GM... i'm not giving up on this ticket unless what i'm receiving has true value. But just giving up on a guy to plug in another guy that is inexperienced and unproven might not be the best of ideas. If all someone wanted was to not extend fultz into next season.... then you might as well hold onto him till the end of next season and see what he's worth. And if he does great.... resign him... or at least sign and trade him. IF he doesn't do great.... move on and that's fine.

Couple No. 1 overall picks and our new rook.
Whoa, I knew Black's statistical profile was impressive but dayuum. I think he could be better as a rookie than Fultz is as a... Is it his 6th season now?

Great profiles. If Black comes into the league this ready then he’ll force some roster moves.

Jett just said in his interview that Black's outside shot has never looked better.

A reason why players like Black and Haliburton don't have to have a high jump shot is that their dribble enables them to create space.

It’s 1 on 0 so glad he is making them but for me it’s more about the progress with his form. Everyone said his shot wasn’t broken just needed some tweaks and more practice. If he can hit 35% of threes he hits a new level interesting. This is just step 1 but its encouraging
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

There are certainly examples out there of guys who didn't shoot it all that well in college who saw tangible improvement very quickly after hiring a personal skill development/shooting coach for the first time after they declared for the draft.

Certainly doesn't happen with everyone, but it has happened.

Not saying this is for sure what's happening with Black by any means, but it definitely would be nice.

I like Fultz... but if Black cab do those 3pt stuff during games and not just on an empty gym against a trainer, ill jump into the bandwagon before half the season is over to give Black the keys.
