Good team = bad game
Bad team= Good game
it's just what it is right now. Against disciplined team he has no shot at doing anything meaningful, vs Elfrid Payton he will look like next Magic Johnson.

In fairness to him, his highest scorest game this season was against OKC, and it was a close game, not a blowout. He had good games against the Clippers and the Bucks too this season. And he had some awful games against bad teams, like Utah and Philly. Obviously it's easier for him against bad teams, but that's the case with pretty much anyone.

AB is somewhere between good and "why do their scrubs always get hot against us" on the scouting report.

The issue is he is trying to develop SO many things at once - 3 point shooting, midrange jumper, defense, handles, running a NBA-level offense, etc. Kudos to him for picking up so much so far and not get overwhelmed. He must be an extremely intelligent and dedicated guy. That said, the Magic are really not setting him up for success throwing so much at him and expecting consistent results. Worse, Paolo specifically asked for a PG to help him and Franz, and the front office's answer was somehow a player who needed tons of development at a super difficult position to develop in.

I believe Black will be a good player but he's the wrong fit with this team. Which I knew the night we drafted him.

To be fair, this is an "how is AB developing thread" not a "how does he fit the team" thread. Although we discuss that from time to time too.
My comment is just that, if I were the opposing team. I would either mark him as "Good watch out if he is hot" or "Why do their scrubs always get hot against us" on the scouting report.
There are plenty of side bar conversations on this forum regarding Paolo PG comments / AB fitment / and management direction.

Great description of a player his age and younger.JoshuaPotter wrote:Black and Blue wrote:JoshuaPotter wrote:

Re: How bout that AB!
How is AB developing? "Slowly" would be the kindest way to describe it. He's almost through 2 full years in the NBA and he's averaging:
24.6 mpg
42.0 FG% (down from his rookie year)
29.5 3PT% (down from his rookie year)
9.2 ppg
2.8 rpg (as a 6-7 guard)
3.3 apg
1.8 TO pg
Jeff will probably be extending him any day now.

24.6 mpg - Minutes up 50%
42.0 FG% (down from his rookie year) - FGA up 100%
29.5 3PT% (down from his rookie year) - 3pa up 95%
9.2 ppg - up 105%
2.8 rpg (as a 6-7 guard) - up 40% (roughly)
3.3 apg - up almost 200%
1.8 TO pg - up 105% (not a good look but still a sophmore guard)
Also you completely ignored his defensive stats that are for all intents and purposes. Insanely good.
In the last 19 games Anthony blacks 3-ball is 37.8% on 2.4 attempts per game.

Re: How bout that AB!
We are always waiting on AB's growth and development. Yes, he is only 20 years old. And yes, I am the OP of this thread. But how long should we wait? This Magic team from now on is contending for playoffs year after year. Do we have a window for his development?
Last Cleveland game really made me thinking. Yes, we've seen the disappointment and against very good teams like Cleveland, he just disappointed and did not look too good out there.
Is this a development problem? Or we should still be patient? And who decides the timeline on AB's development?
This is at the end a grown man's game. If you good, you get a contract and stay. If you are not, you are out of the league. What is the window for the patience on AB?
I like AB and I have said many times here if he comes out play like a star, this team could look totally different. And now? I am waiting...

That's tough to decide. He's the 4th best player on the team and will improve a lot more. I vote for letting him go.MasterGMer wrote:We are always waiting on AB's growth and development. you keep AB and that's not even a question, sure he's inconsistent but that's expected and at the end of the day you could do worse for a 7th 8th man off the bench... GARY HARRIS, KCP.
The big thing will be if we find a trade for say a Jimmy Butler/Cam Johnson level player and the deal hinges on AB being included then you probably have to let go. AB right now is probably our best "young, exciting, still have 1st round value prospect". I'd imagine the Bulls asked for AB in any White deal which we correctly said no and said here take Cole which they said f off.
TLDR- You move AB if it's for a B tier star Cam Johnson/Jimmy Butler/Herro vs moving AB for a Colby White/Simons/Sexton type player
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

I'm ok with extending him but it better be a reasonable deal...maybe MLE-level, imo...otherwise, he's a perfect example of someone you DON'T have any reason to extend a year early. If he can be locked in at $10-12m per - good.

I think I agree 100% with this assessment. It's fair, balanced, nuanced, and paints a lot of color.
Bust for a 6th pick. Way too soon to say that.
NBA level player? I think so.

Probably right...but probably shouldn't...take a step back and look at what he ACTUALLY does. That's $15.5m per. He's not that guy...maybe he will be, but it would be criminal to overpay him a year early when he'll just be an RFA.
Unless you're thinking NEXT year is the year when he'll absolutely take a leap and we're smart enough to lock him in
