Perhaps they are no longer inept, as the FO has been revamped, nearly top to bottom? Perhaps because they been at the reigns for not even a full season yet?

Anybody understand the extension rules in the new CBA?

Harden just signed a "5 yr $80 mil extension", but I thought you were only allowed to extend for a TOTAL of 4 years (including this current year), so this year + 3 yrs....how does the 5 yr extension work? I know there was some sort of provision where you could pick one player on your team off their rookie contract and do something unique? Anybody have insight?

definitely overpaid, but...

$10.5M for 16.7ppg on 42% fg/26% 3fg, 5.3ftapg, 3.3rpg, 2apg, 0.7spg from a 22 year old SG

vs

$8.6M for 11.9ppg on 42%fg/ 37% 3fg, 1.5ftapg, 3.2rpg, 5.7apg, 0.7spg from a 30 year old PG

i don't know if we're really one to judge. at least DeRozan has potential on his side still.

This team also needed a leader and some sort of bridge between the past and the present. Jameer is our pillar of consistency, our designated captain, and the only former all-star on the team. If we're going to be playing four young players at a time, I'd rather they played with a veteran, still-talented point guard than with, say, E'Twaun Moore running the offense. Jameer is definitely overpaid (and more overpaid than DeRozan), but at least to us, he's worth it.

I can't imagine DeRozan would have gotten more than 7.5 on the open market though. Toronto could have saved themselves a boatload of money and flexibility. They also just drafted Terrence Ross with their lottery pick. Wonder what they do with that...
