Re: The Trade Thread II
Depressing with this unicorn we cannot win games. I hand it to Rob for getting him, but he royally screwed everything else up this summer.
I still think our best chance is a top 3 pick AND keeping Serge, moving just about everyone else in the process. But we'll see. If we would have made the playoffs I would have had no reservations about resigning Serge, now I would be too worried he'd bolt for a playoff squad. But that is something the FO knows through conversations with his crew, so if he's moved, we should be ok with it, because they don't think he'll resign.

I agree too. I still think we can turn into an elite team at some point in this rebuild. I would do this by sticking with Ibaka and Fournier. Then with Vooch and AG, I would have them "on the fence" of sticking with them, or, selling them at high value. Don't care at all to see EP, Mario, Biz, or anyone else here.
In fact, I think ORL would have a better chance at convincing Ibaka to resign if they just got rid of a ton of these players between the trades and the expiring/waiving contracts. I would definitely waive CJ this summer, then trick the NBA trade market by actually flipping a different package, headlined by AG, Mario, maybe a 1st, and then maybe one non-surprise name of EP/Vooch/Biz. Then Orl can show Ibaka that there is only like 4-5 remaining players (Ibaka, Fournier, ~Biz, DJ), 1-2 good lotto picks/new additions, and a great amount of cap space.
When a team sucks this much, you generally want to dumpster fire everything, which is the right sentiment. But nothing is ever so simple always. This team is much more different to that situation, because it actually has a few pieces that are very good, and young enough to still be very good for an elite team many seasons too.
I hate to be so callous over dumping players, I never try to be at all, but when the team record is this bad...

Re: The Trade Thread II
After all these years of being against a Cousins trade I now believe that this is exactly what the team needs. We need his attitude and aggressiveness. This team is soft as butter right now. We don't just need a rebuild of talent, we need a rebuild of attitude. This team just doesn't care.
Keep Elf. At least he attacks the basket and bullies guys a bit. Plays physical. Don't care about the rest.

Re: The Trade Thread II
It's time to dump this team. Everyone is on the table. I wouldn't just give up Ibaka, as he has been very consistent for us, so I would want to get value back.
But the bottom line is we have now seen 3-4 consistent losing years with Payton, Vooch, AG, Fournier getting big minutes with decent coaches. It's time to accept this is a losing combination, and go balls to the walls again.
You either have it or you don't. And these guys just don't have those winning habits and consistency that comes with being a high level player.
They have all shown flashes, but they all have huge holes in there game and don't have enough impact to take over a game consistently.
Having a bunch of starting material players isn't enough in today's NBA. You need at least one dominant player to hang your hat on. I mean if you put us neck to neck with boston, I would say we have a better team on paper. But guess what, they have Isaiah Thomas, and a mean defense, which turns them into title contenders.

Do you think the Bucks would consider Thon Maker and Mirza Teletovic for Serge?

If Henny stayed away from Noel in the draft due to character concerns, there ain't no way in hell, Cousins is coming here.

where do you get that he stayed away from him because of that??? it seems Rob has stayed away from injured players, but didn't Noel get selected ahead of us anyway?

Rob needs to get Bledsoe, Butler or George... but I'd settle for Jrue and a hope he resigns.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again - there is no amount of assets we have that would net us DMC.
Even if that were the case, it would be a longer rebuild just getting the roster around him to make it work.

Re: The Trade Thread II
Im seriously shocked that we have not made a single trade. Guess its a good thing and a bad thing bc this year were not giving anyone away for a bag of chips. Still, a move needs to be made. Rob is gonna wait til the last minute for Ibaka.

Re: The Trade Thread II
Man, I'm all over the place on this...I'm making the mistake of assuming everyone on this Forum is an NBA GM
and that Ibaka may only fetch us Sullinger and a 2028 2nd rounder. Now I'm really thinking trade away everybody but Ibaka (after making sure he's OK with a rebuild).
I'm hoping Rob has a better sense of chemistry and heart behind the scenes and maybe, along with Vogel, he sees who works and who doesn't with Serge. I'd like to think I know a little about hoops, but Geez, this team sucks 3 out of 4 nights.
Evan is NOT soft. He takes hits, goes hard to the hoop, bounces up, etc...I'm not sure he doesn't just rest on the other end though.

I rather not make a move then make a bad trade. The draft and FA is the time for this team to make moves. The only one I do want to really see is us getting something of value for Serge.

Re: The Trade Thread II
The Magic are sellers. It'll be a bidding war for guys like Ibaka, Vucevic, Fournier, Biz, etc., and the closer to the trade deadline we get, the better the chance is they'll maximize the offers they receive. If they make any trade, I anticipate that it'll be on the day of the deadline.

Re: The Trade Thread II
I actually really like ibaka on this team. I think the struggles and constant trade rumors for the last month have affected his play. I'd be OK with him signing a long term deal with us but I think he'll probably be wearing a different jersey soon.

Re: The Trade Thread II
What kinds of "outta nowhere" trade ideas can you think of?
I got one...
Nikola Vucevic/Jeff Green for Derrick Rose/Kyle O'Quinn!
NYK get an old school Center idea for the Triangle. ORL gets a scorer in Rose who could be a rental or could be a long term signing... all depending on how the honeymoon goes. Even if he leaves, the Magic get an arguably better C on a better contract in the Beard.
