From the aforementioned Ken Berger Column....

Though Shaquille O'Neal has expressed interest in the past in a front-office job with the Magic, the team never reached out to the All-Star-turned-TV-commentator about the GM opening, according to a person familiar with Orlando's process.

The Magic also are interested in speaking with Pacers general manager David Morway and former Hornets GM Jeff Bower, both of whom have interviewed twice for the Trail Blazers' opening, and former Portland GM and current Pacers executive Kevin Pritchard, sources said.

Magic officials believe former Pacers and Knicks president Donnie Walsh would be a good fit, but sources say the team is convinced that if Walsh returns to a front-office job, it will be in Indiana in the likely event team president Larry Bird retires.

The Orlando Magic will begin scheduling interviews for their general manager position Friday and hope to have an executive in place within three weeks, league sources told CBSSports.com.

Among the characteristics said to be most prized by Magic CEO Alex Martins is championship experience. So while there have been no public indications that Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak will be available or wants to leave Los Angeles, Kupchak is expected to be among the first wave of candidates the Magic pursue, one of the sources said.

In addition to reaching out to free-agent candidates, the team's list also will include executives who are under contract with other teams. Martins also is expected to begin contacting teams Friday to ask permission to interview such candidates, and Kupchak -- with multiple championships on his resume -- will be among the obvious targets, sources said.

Smells like an intentional leak of sorts to put pressure on dwight, i'm sure they want to know which direction they are heading -- contend or rebuild prior to selecting the GM.

Only way dwight ends up as a net is if they get the lotto pick. He can sign max years with us, or spend a year for a team like houston... forces DWill to stick it out another year too if they really want to meet up there.

Exclusive: Magic are ready to trade Howard

I’ve already told you that Dwight Howard wants out of Orlando, and now I have another piece of info to report.

A plugged-in league source tells SheridanHoops.com that the feeling is mutual, and Orlando is prepared to trade him sooner rather than later.

The source said that when Magic team president traveled to Michigan last weekend to speak in person with owner Rich DeVos, the conclusion was reached that not only was it time for Stan Van Gundy and Otis Smith to go, but Howard, too.

That means the Magic will be proactive in soliciting deals once next week’s draft lottery results are in, clearing up the lay of the land in terms of which teams can offer the most value in return.

The source spoke to SheridanHoops.com on condition of anonymity.

I don't trust Sheridan... his blog is horribly ranked. Seriously, it's like 188,000 (lower is better) and getting worse fast - pretty amateurish. He could be trying to improve it by gaining links from more reputable sites with "exclusives" and hoping his speculation turns out to be true.

Troll hard, Sheridan. Troll hard.

Let me make sure that I understand the logic correctly:
Orlando, wanting to keep Howard for the 2011-2012 season and hopefully sign a 5-year extension, tried the entire season for him to waive his ETO so he would not be a free agent. They succeed. And now, all of a sudden, they want to trade. They let the entire fan and organization go through this nightmare of a season because they wanted him and NOW they want to trade him?

What I find interesting about the article is that there are no quotes, nor are we told that the "source" is someone close to the situation. I'm supposed to believe that someone, spoke to him in anonymously and the writer just happen to forget to tell us the credentials of their source. OK!

Diffirence between Shaq + Kupchak versus Otis?

They both love Bynum and think nothing of Brook Lopez.... That alone is a win.

I would not worry too much about this for the GM position. The guys we are said to be looking at are already very active in scouting the draft class with better resources than the Magic have in place. It would be perfect to let them go through preparation then bring them in a week prior to run our war room.

If we get top level management (president of bball ops, GM, and a high profile player's coach), watch the top level players start coming in (if we keep Dwight).

If this rumor didn't have any legs to it, then why haven't we heard from Dwight or his girl friend via twitter already? She comes blasting out every time she sees something wrong about her man, why not now then? I think the report is true. Why would anyone make something up like this out of thin air? These people want to get ahead in the business, I just don't see why they would report something without some kind of insight. Sure, it may end up being wrong, which is completely different than making the whole thing up.

You are way too smart to go with that ^.

Josh Robbins is reporting that his sources say differently and that they have NOT made any decisions. I'll say it again, Sheridan is a hack and not even ESPN is picking up his stories.
