He's not liked because of his race. He's loved because of his achievements playing for his national team. In Puerto Rico basketball is the number one sport hands down and national team players are like rockstars. You guys have nothing like that here in the USA. When team Puerto Rico, the whole island literally stops to watch.
He most definitely is.
Carlos was loved in Orlando, as Versubio said, not bc of his race. Please, really? Think about it. Carlos has made PR proud w his international play time and time again. Not because his race, aka Hispanic. How many hispanic fans filled Amway to watch Ayon? Exactly. Whether it's liked or not the Puerto rican population in FL is a hair under 1 million, and central FL is home to most puerto ricans in FL, hence the reason why he filled seats, people were proud of what he has done, not exactly as a Magic but for his international play. Why he was hated? He was taking time away from glass joe meer and at times he tried too hard ending in a chuck fest. Other than that I have no idea besides single cell minded reasons.
Other than JWill, I feel like Arroyo was probably one of our best backup PGs in the past ~10 years. He shot a pretty good percentage from the field, provided good scoring and ball movement from the bench (even earned a starer role for a bit due to his play, but was demoted to a bench role once again, which is really his best role in the NBA), and played passionately for the team. He wanted to finish his career in Orlando. Unfortunately, Magic fans generally remember more of the bad than good. Yeah, there were nights where he tried to do too much, but he was generally a good backup point guard you could count on.
The only knock on him was he was never a very good defensive player, but we had Keyon Dooling for that, at the time.
