Can I see the reports? Was this an article or something? Got links?

Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress claims that the Magic have done more research into Exum's background than any other team.

"Exum is a bit of an enigma given he hasn't been seen extensively since last summer, but Orlando assistant GM Matt Lloyd was one of the few high level executives who actually were in attendance to scout him last summer in Prague at the U19 World Championship," writes Givony. Citing "our sources," he says the Magic have done more research into Exum's "background" than any other team has.

Siting "Our Sources" is all I needed to know.

That's nice to know they won't make a decision based on hype.

PERFECT! There is your Exum Lite.

You are NEVER living this down if this guy turns into an allstar.

IF. I would rather see the Magic build the team without rolling the dice. I see no concrete evidence Exum is going to be a star. Who knows if he can even run a pick and roll. He might end up being a skinny 2 guard. He's not a superior athlete. MCW is just as fast, more agile, and jumps a 1/2 foot higher. I think the reason Exum hasn't played in 6 months is because he's one bad game from not even being a lottery pick. I wouldn't be surprised if he does fall.

Thus, if he is only prepped to say the right things and do the right agility tests in only 2-3 private workouts in such, he can't hurt himself.

Well, at least we know the Big 3 and Smart are not afraid of what anybody sees.

if you have a top 5 slot locked down, why would you even risk it? the only workouts embiid and co did were nothing but drills intended to be put out as hi lite tapes on the internet, nothing player vs player. the private workouts are the only ones that matter to these high picks and exum will do the ones he needs to do.

it has nothing to do with being afraid, once again more baseless positions by you

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

There are several good options for us. We come out much better no matter what happens. Anyone planning on going to the Amway?

I agree that we don't know what will happen, but I think and owner telling fans he wants Embiid or Jabari is a little different to the usual smokescreens... especially at a fan event where he tells them his GM won't be making the pick.

imo exum's ball skills and quickness with the ball should not necessarily translate immediately, but give him a much higher ceiling than smart, who is widely seen as a bit slow for a point guard.

People need to stop with this whole nobody knows Exum and he may not be able to play. I am going to quote Jay Bilas on this one. "He may be a mystery to everyone else but these scouts have been been following him for over a year. They have watched him play at the U19 and NHS, they have dug into his background, and have watched hours of footage on him. They know who he is." People need to relax and trust the Orlando Magic Front office. They are going to pick the best player and if it is Exum then so be it. We went through the same thing last year with Oladipo and we see how that turned out.

Sources is all you've based your speculative smear campaign on so far. But this time they don't count because they don't fit your agenda, right?

Yes, some sources can be sketchy, but completely writing off everyone that says something about someone as a source is ridiculous. You know there are people who actually spend their entire working day talking to NBA personnel, GMs, front office staff, players, prospects, etc. We have a team of guys whose sole purpose at work is to learn about guys like Exum, fly overseas, call old coaches, ex-school teachers, friends, and family.

Chad Ford and Jay Bilas discuss Smart and Exum:

1. In five years, who's the better PG prospect, Dante Exum or Marcus Smart?

Chad Ford: I love both players and think both are worthy of Top-5 picks in this draft. Other than the fact that they both have elite size for their position, they are pretty different players. Smart is about strength, leadership, basketball IQ and defensive toughness. Exum is about speed, length and a unique ability to get to the basket at will........

I lean, and I emphasize lean, toward Exum. I think his edge on quickness and size makes the difference. I also think that he's probably a better shooter, right now, than Smart was at his age. I think both players have the chance to be all-stars someday, but if I had to choose, Exum would be my guy.

Jay Bilas: I love Marcus Smart, but I think Exum has more potential to be a great player. Neither is a natural point guard, but Exum is taller, longer and has a much better shooting stroke. Smart is the better defender, on and off the ball, and is much stronger, but Exum will mature. I believe Exum can be a consistent, good shooter and Smart has not made much progress over the past year in his shooting.

Considering Exum is 18, what are the chances he improves his max vert from 34.5? If chances are good, what would be realistic expectations?

I guess its possible that a young players like Exum and Smart, who is a year older than Exum can improve their max vert.

Chad Ford had us taking Trey Burke and Jay Bilas thought Ben Mclemore was the best player in the draft this time last year.

Can anyone find footage of the USA vs Aus in the fibau19 game that featured Smart and Exum? Its odd that that's like the only game from either country with no footage.

Dante is probably going to be 6'7 - 6'8 by the time he's 21

his vert will improve, but ingame athleticism probably won't show it much since (from the few games I've watched) it doesn't seem like he is trying to posterize guys any chance he gets
