Bane is our starting ‘point guard’ now.

If you view Bane as the Magic’s starting ‘point guard’, with Suggs becoming more of the ‘combo guard’ he should be, that’s the Jeff Weltman backcourt vision.

Bane has more on-ball reps over the past 2-3 years than the average viewer realizes.

I'll happily admit he's a lot more of an offensive initiator than I realized...the same stuff many of us, particularly myself, have been somewhat hopefully rationalizing about Simons, Sexton, Coby, etc PG tendencies are even more factual with Bane...Not a PG but more of one than those other guys and TWICE the defender.

Spot on from Windy, and exactly the point i was making in my post earlier. KCP and Cole are 35million per year in dead salary, and we now consolidated that into an allstar calibre starter.

Yea, this detail is going to be overlooked for sure.

It probably cost a single real FRP alone to shed KCP salary and maybe a swap for Cole’s expiring just in a vacuum.

If we sent positive contract fillers the trade could have easily been:

Fillers
#16
‘28 FRP
‘30 FRP

Which looks a lot more realistic.

Not if Paolo makes All-NBA which might be a lot more likely now with Bane.

That will be the following season. lol
So by then... it would be....

Paolo
Franz
Bane
Suggs

That's our 4 top players.

Should have gotten Huff and/or Scotty out of this deal. My only complaint. One of those guys, especially on the contracts they're on, would have been huge for us.

But the front office feels good with Suggs/Bane/Black handling the backcourt (possibly adding another guard in the draft at #25)...and if Paolo is an elite all nba type player we have enough to compete for a title with that group IMO.

That's my thought as well. If Paolo becomes on level with Tatum, we could win our first championship. That is an "if" but when he came back from injury last year, he showed he can become a really high level player in this league

and depends on what the filler is.... Suggs +#16+2 SRP. lol

I like KCP. I thought he started off slow... but we never got to see him with everyone. And with the injuries... it just made him look even worse. Next season... if healthy... he could have proven to be a less of a negative to worthy pick.... especially if we win... and win a lot. Perception changes with winning... that's for sure.

With this pick... we won't possibly get the same level of defense as i was dreaming with KCP.... but we freaking can possibly blow the top off of our offensive potential with the new starting lineup.

We finished .500 as an injury riddled team. Many players playing below their average capabilities.... and still raising some new cubs. They went all in because a lot of that can change reeeeeaaaaaal quickly next year. Haha... even our stars are still possibly at 65-75% of their potential. We add a player that fits our offensive needs without hurting our defensive capability and maintaining a switchable scheme.

And all at the price of me pretty much only missing the #16 pick (ish) and next years pick. But... like any other rookie.... similar to what we are dealing with black, Jett, and TDS.... we will have to wait for said individuals to A. get drafted... and B. Develop. Acquisition of Bane gives us what we desired and what we desired now. And if that is what it took to part him from Memphis. so be it.

Those last 3 picks... could be #25-30 for their respective years. And people were planning on adding #16 and #25 to move up to #10.... to select an.... "Unknown". So.... hey.... I get it now.

Now... we just gotta go out and prove that we have a winning recipe.

They are not giving up those individuals. Especially NOT Scottie. His contract to production would have definitely forced us to get out another pick. lol

Paolo’s extension doesn’t kick in until ‘26-‘27.

I am almost certain Mike Miller was helping to negotiate the deal. He is Morant and Banchero agent.
We lost some value over the years to keep agents happy. (our drafting, contract to WCJ, Isaac, Cole).
We care for our players and agents see it to.
If i know something about Weltman he has a couple of free agents lined up to sign now that we can contend.
They will pay up for the difference in value.
I doubt Memphis has the same signing power as us.
I am just suprised we kept Suggs but Grizzlies are a mess right now. Getting a 3&D who will most likely regain his shooting next to Ja and a lot of draft capital while improving defense makes sense for them. KCP wont have to create with Morant and he is a better defender than Bane.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

didn't Morant just can Miller?

I'm not sure why people think ORL has some special advantage with Miller...he played on several teams - but even that shouldn't matter much.

It's crazy that people are complaining about the picks we included. Mid to late 20s have a low likelihood of making a deep bench, let alone a starter or potential star. It's even worse with our FO who often strike out on role players in the lottery.

With our team already ascending, those picks were going to be garbage for us. Probably a lot "cash considerations" after trading them for 17 future second round picks.

Bane is awesome.

Sooooo... anyone really complaining about this?

I though Bane was onr of those realistically won't be traded unless an allstar is returned. Thats why a lot of us ( ok all of us ) never seriously considered him a trade target.

So we got him for KCP and Cole which a lot here wanted to get rid of. We didnt let go a " core piece " aka fan/posters favorite like Black.

We lost 4 frp.. one of which is the #16 this draft.. a pick a lot of us actually wanted to be traded for some immediate help.

A 26 pick swap which confuses a lot of us....

Sure the other 2 undprotected frp is a gamble.. but look at DEN when we traded AG to them. We hoped thry would implode or be injured but... meh. They got a chanpionship out of it because of AG.

The only bad side is we break up " the family " lolz

I still haven’t processed this properly. Feel like a kid who’s woken up thinking it’s June but finding out it’s Christmas morning.

The unprotected picks are going to be at the bottom of the first round and with not many roster spots makes it a great trade. Look at it from Memphis' point of view they only traded him because they're going to try and retool/rebuild. I love the trade keeps with the toughness theme.. but the team needed the shooting desperately.. the volume 3pt shooting specifically.

Durable how?
I love the swing i dont love that it's for a player that has missed almost 100 games in the past 3 years...

He was durable last year.

Mike just seems like a more present and active agent since we’ve seen him talking to Weltman and co on the sidelines. You’ve gotta imagine he had an open line with Memphis’ FO since he repped their franchise player.

Ja might’ve left Mike because maybe Memphis flagged their retooling and Ja wasn’t onboard, and Mike couldn’t do anything about it, or maybe Ja wanted out and hadn’t been liking Mike’s advice? The fact this deal is announced just 2 days later feels like it *could* indicate a connection.

Really exciting move. Both guards can guard either player. Bane can pull as the ball handler on PNR.. Suggs gets back to shooting the 3 @ 40%.

The front office needs to add more punch off the bench. We don't know when Mo is going to be back to form. Jett really didn't show much. Wondering if Clayton is there at 25 do they draft him? I seriously how fans aren't really excited about next season.

I'm just glad this hit on a weekend...I'd get NOTHING done on a Monday.

Also, it's big that ORL broke the ice on trade season with a whopper...still very early in trade season so more to likely come to support this clear commitment to contending ASAP.

No clue either. Lol

Still hoping for AB, Jett, and TDS growth. If we keep them ... I'm hoping that's because we love them and what they can be for us.

Best part is .... Starters can be staggered to always have a ball handler or scorer, or two, on the court at all times.... Especially when we get to the playoffs.

If we trade Suggs because of this and it isn't an insane overpay by whoever we trade him to, this will go down as the worst trade in history and I'll become a new level of troll.

Worse than when we had people saying Evan Fournier was an allstar.

Why? Wouldn't Suggs bring back an equally good or better player?

2 years ago I went to the Memphis message board to see what they would be willing to take for Bane. Almost better value today than what I proposed tbh
