It's great that he wants to attack the rim, but what else does he do besides look to score? We've already got a bunch of guys who's primary skill is scoring, and it's made for a disjointed and recently ugly offense. Wafer's just one more variation of that. (Also, I just looked on 82games.com, and Jason Richardson actually attempts more shots at the rim as a % of total FGA than Wafer does)
We need guys out there who can influence games in other ways. I'm more down with the "free Earl" movement than Wafer, because when Earl is hustling and working hard he can make a difference without taking any shots. Q is on our roster for similar reasons - he's a much, much better defender than Wafer, he's a decent rebounder for a 6'5 guy. He doesn't look to shoot much.
On a really good team, neither Q nor Von would be getting more than garbage minutes. As it is, it doesn't really bother me which guy Stan chooses to go with (and based on tonight's rotations, Q was backing up Hedo while Von backed up JJ, which makes sense because Von lacks the strength to guard SFs), I'm just amazed that we have reached a point where people are desperate for Von Wafer to get into a game. And not just him, it's Harper or Liggins, too. I mean, we know what Stan is like - he is hell bent on winning, all the time. If he really thought that Von Wafer would answer our problems, Von Wafer would be getting regular minutes.
