Well Lee can actually play Center next to Anderson.
I actually agree with Davidm9 ... and here is why...
Ellis, Lee, and draft pick(s) *The GS Warriors suck, wink wink...* would be better than that bum Lopez or crickety knees Bynum... I'm being dead serious... Ellis is still 26, he's like a mini T-Mac or a cross between Russell Westbrook/Gilbert Arenas... he may not have been chosen to an All-Star game, but he wasn't chosen in the West the past few years because A) The Warriors are a losing team B) He's competing against Kobe, Nash, Westbrook, Chris Paul, Deron (when he was in Utah), Ginobli, Parker, etc in the back-court ... come on, we all know Ellis is an All-Star... Josh Smith is an All-Star, and he wasn't chosen to the All-Star team. There are guys like that around the league, so that's a moot point imo.
At the PG position I believe Ellis can be deadly good if he is surrounded by better complimentary talent (which I think Orlando has; he won't be competing against someone like Curry in the back-court) and he is given a great head coach (which SVG is) on a better/winning franchise (Orlando) imo. A change of scenery can be good for him too. Ellis is a very good play-maker, creator, and scorer.
Also Ellis is on a very fair contract, he isn't overpaid, while still making a ton of money. He is owed 22 million the next two years after this season. His final year (2013/14) has an early termination option (http://www.hoopsworld.com/golden-state- ... eam-salary). He isn't owed a ton of money like Bynum and Lopez are expected to. Ellis has trade value, and he is a "name" you can build around as a team (if he plays PG) and market around in Orlando to the fans. The only iffy part of the deal is Lee's contract, but Lee can still put up 20/12, and justify his pay. He's still only 28 or 29 years old and he can still play at that level for another 3 years imo (most bigs can play well until they are 32 or 33 years old, just look at guys like Scola or Pau). Lee actually has skill around the basket and the elbow. By the time he does decline (3-4 years later), his contract will be a valuable trade chip as an expiring.
And the most important part of the deal is the draft picks. Golden State won't win a lot of games, even with Dwight for the rest of this season as a rental. Dwight will leave them during the summer, and Golden State will be an even worse team. They might have cap space after getting rid of Ellis and Lee's contract, but no star player or FA will likely go to Golden State (sorry GS, I'm just being honest). I also don't think Marc Jackson is a great coach... so those draft picks will probably be better than Houston's or New Jersey's. Draft picks are key to rebuilding
And at the end of the day, if you can pawn off someone like BBD, J-Rich, or Duhon along with Dwight to Golden State, you can actually have enough cap cleared by 2013 summer to go after a star Free Agent(s)! Key note: Hedo's contract is non-guaranteed for 2013/14, keep it, get rid of BBD, J-Rich, and/or Duhon's along with Dwight (http://www.hoopsworld.com/orlando-magic-team-salary).
+1 Wow, this really makes a lot of sense if you take a step back and look at the numbers and compare GS's deal to NJ and LAL's. Nets and Lakers have horrid deals, no question. At least with the Warriors you'll get real value back to build around, and you get better draft picks.
Quick edit: I like the trade, but I think we should keep BBD and send Duhon & Q-Rich out instead.
