For those wanting to see them use the sink-or-swim approach with Franz and give him as many minutes as possible regardless of how poorly he plays, last night was a good sign. Mosley started Franz again despite him doing absolutely nothing to earn it. 28 minutes, 7 points, 3-8 FG, 1-5 3PT, 2 rebounds, 2 assists.

Other than pretty good defense, it's hard to understand what WeltHam saw to use the #8 pick on him. What exactly is he supposed to do? It's not shooting and it's definitely not rebounding.

Assuming that, at this point in the season (and his pro career), things are earned in practice...let's not assume we know squat about who's earning what

He looks like a kid who's unsure if he belongs out there and overthinking things. There is a skill issue and a mental issue right now. The mental issue is kinda normal but I hoped he would be more aggressive. I bet WeltHam is hoping he turns into a Joe Ingles clone.

There is lot of Dani Avdija in him right now, players who understand basketball but things that used to work for them , in nba simply don't.

Both guys are young and will need to find ways to leave impact.

Funny enough, a podcast was just posted:

Around the 13:15 mark, Hammond said he envisions Franz at the 3 as a ballhandler with JI next to him at the 4 looking into the future.

Surprised Hammond didn't bring up Isaac being a game time decision for the opener, unless he didn't know.

Franz looked timid in the first summer league game and then looked more at least later. Then he hit the reset button and went through the same cycle in preseason. I expect him to do the same thing at the start of the regular season. By game 5 I hope we see some signs of life.

Franz reminds me a lot of JI. Team player with a higher defensive iq and knows his role on offense to a fault.

I’m willing to bet Franz will win us a game or two with a really good defensive performance this year. And that is considering we’ll be a top 5 team in the lottery odds.

Just relax, Franz isnt the type of guy who’s going to win ROtY or whatever individual awards, but he’s good enough to lift a team and win games.

a Franz-Isaac-Bamba (if he continues this solid play) combination would be amazing.

You make it seem like he could drop 20 any night and he’s just letting the people around him get theirs.

Guy is terrified to do anything on offense (as of yet).

Meanwhile, Bouk didn’t even get into the game last night.

Just one game. It doesn’t mean anything but are people feeling just a *LITTLE* better about this pick today?

Wagner got 12 points at the rim with moves of a 6-year veteran. Nothing fancy, he created just enough space to hit a very high percentage shot.

When his J starts dropping I could see a very good player. Really good hands and handle, better than I expected.

Looked to be reaching (I thought one of his blocks was a clear foul that was not called) on defense more than a good player would, but that will come in time.

First thing that stood out is he has long legs and arms so he can take big strides to cover ground and use angles to get an easier look.

Never hated the pick. Was always high on Franz.

He just needs to play with confidence. I'm hopeful that now that he's shown the ability to attack a close out and get to the rim with craft that he'll look to do it more and more.

I gotta admit I was wrong. My concerns were evidently unfounded.
I really liked the way Franz played on opening night.
He played with a lot of intelligence. He was quick, defended really well and was always a second anticipated to rivals movements. Sometimess he seemed like a 10 year vet.
He looked as an NBA ready rookie. More than Suggs.
There's a long way to go of course but it was a promising debut for him.
Glad to be wrong.

Absolutely. He just needs to gain more confidence with his game. His length and Bball IQ is outstanding.

Franz plays so cool, like a seasoned vet.

That's why I'm nicknaming him "The Franz", aaaaay.

A lot of people compared The Franz, to Gordon Hayward before the draft. Hayward didn't hit a double-digit scoring game, until game 26.

Other than being white, there is really no comparison between those two. Extreamly lazy comparison.

Gordon arived in nba as well established college player. Jazz didn't even tank for him, it was age-long trade -last asset from Marbury trade that happend 6 years prior. Utah won 53 games season before.

Even if you look at his game logs from rookie year it's clear he hardly ever played. There was streach of like 8 games where he didn't collect 25 min total. There is something to be said about playing 9 min in span of 3 different games
