KC Jones and Bill Russell are good ones! so is McMillan and Hollins, forgot about him. I wont call Rivers the owner of 2 of the longest losing streaks in NBA history a good coach. Nor will I call Mike Brown a good coach.

Well, i felt like Russell and KC Jones and Rivers HAVE TO be there for the simple fact that they, along with Doc Rivers are the only A.A. coaches to win the NBA Championship. Russell&Jones with 2 each and Doc with the only other.
Coincidently, they all were coaching the Celtics when they won them.

Funny thing is, I.Thomas is actually was a good Head Coach at the NBA level and for whatever reason was a bit of a Pied Piper as todays players seem to really gravitate towards him, almost like a cult following.

Why are we naming top black head coaches? What's the difference? I thought we were past the point where people went around thinking they had smaller brains or whatever.

They flew up to MI for a meeting with the owner, that I believe is the most accurate part. Words could have been strained from we are prepared to trade Dwight to we are going to trade Dwight. I'm not saying it hasn't been embellished at all, just that I believe that there is something to it. We don't hear about anyone flying out to meet with Dwight, no photo op, no leaked info that we are working hard at keeping the big guy happy. I sense a certain attitude from Dwight and his girl as well. And, as I explained, I think hiring for these two spots are contingent on Dwight's sentiments and intentions. I don't think they want to trade him, but believe that they will be forced to if he doesn't work with Martins on a plan, that's the logical part for me. If all of this was before the debacle we just went through, I'd give Dwight more of the benefit of doubt, but I'm past that point of trusting him now.
Seriously? That little tidbit is what is throwing you off?
If I'm not mistaken there was a report claiming that Dwight called the DeVos family after the Atlanta game that he would NOT play for SVG. Extremely specific but turns out it was wrong because it was reported that a call had never taken place and that he wasn't playing because we found out that he had an herniated disk.
And how do you sense a certain attitude between Howard and his girl when NONE of them said anything about his free agency, especially her, she never said ANYTHING. And why are we privileged to know what FO is doing with Dwight? And because we don't know, how do we make an accurate conclusion? The conclusion just became what we think is going on and not by actual events on what is going on.

I think it's a reasonable assumption that the Magic will not go through another year of uncertainty. If Dwight won't sign a max extension or publicly commit to resigning, I think Alex is open to moving him and probably has voiced that position to Dan DeVos and the rest of the DeVos family.
I don't think him making a trip to Michigan indicates a shift in strategy. People actually meet with their boss from time to time.

Agree 100%. Having said that, I'd sure like to hear about how Dwight can't wait to get back to Orlando and win next year. My guess is we don't hear much until the coach is hired. Once that happens, Dwight comes out one way or the other and the rest of the dominos start to fall.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXIV: Offseason Edition
I just think the organization as a whole including Dwight, is making a concerted effort to keep everything on the low for obvious reasons (Stan throwing Dwight under the bus, otis talking about Dwights $20 million dollar haircut)
I agree that we probably won't hear anything about Dwight until the draft. It's going to be a lot of writers talking about their "sources" and what think is going to happen until then. My opinion stands, I think they already know what's going to happen.

It's not really fair to cal KC Jones and Bill Russell All-Time greats when they really just rollled out the ball and had great teams. Calling them great NBA coaches is like calling Barry Switzer a great NFL coach.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXIV: Offseason Edition
I'm re-watching ESPN's 30 for 30 on Reggie Miller/Knicks.....
Walsh had become the GM the year before the 1987 draft, and Steve ALford was the hotshot in Indiana.
Alford was the greatest Indiana basketball player of all-time in college, all-time leading scorer, hometown kid, pretty boy, a real Hoosiers-esqe deal.
Reggie Miller was the kid still living in his sister's shadow in LA.
Walsh had scouted Miller, and had chosen him over Alford long before the draft. Amid boos, death threats, and more (he said during the draft, he chose his selection quickly so that they couldn't target him, lol).
Years later, Miller became one of the 50 greatest players of all time, while remaining with with the Pacers 18 years, 5x All-star, 3x All-NBA 3rd team (keep in mind, Jordan, Penny, Stockton, and Payton were all playing during those years), and just becoming an all-around franchise player. He actually saved the Pacers, as they were perennial losers before him.
Alford played for 4 years and started in 3 games, before being cut.
.........I want Walsh.

To demonstrate Walsh's capabilities, you don't have to look back to 1987. Just look at what he did with the Knicks. He cleaned up that mess in 2 yrs, and I'm hoping he can clean up our mess quicker. The guy's nickname is "The Janitor".

I agree, I just think that's the perfect example though.
It would've been too easy to pick Alford, just because that's what the fans wanted, it was a low-risk move. If it didn't work out (which it wouldn't have), then he could've easily escaped blame.
But he ignored the hype, believe in his conviction, and made the choice based on what he knew to be correct. It takes a ton of confidence to do something like that, because if Miller flopped, he would've most likely been fired.

Anyone hear JVG say on ESPN radio in NY that Alex Martins left Stan in his office all day Monday for a meeting and never showed up, then when Stan left, Alex called Stan and fired him over the phone? WTF?

I hear what you're saying, and I agree. But just to play devil's advocate here, Weisbrod drafted Dwight over the fan-favorite and "sure thing", Okafor.
