The funny thing is that PBO Weltman gave a interview just before the draft stating specifically that he would not make deals "just to rearrange the chair."

True. It looks like the same old arrangement but with cheaper, less successful/unproven backups. It's more like they changed the soap in the toilets kind of change.

Pretty much. It's embarrassing.

I legit laughed at this so hard

Jokes aside, it's obvious that team needs direction, it's also obvious that 66 years old Hammond ( and around 60 years old Weltman) won't commit to anything that would fire them. They need to secure enough money for grandkids first.

I have nothing against older folks, i kind a enjoy their wisdom, but man you can't rebuild any company with people that grew up in 1970s and be ahead of competition in 2021.You just can't. ( off topic but i could never understand political parties in US having presidental candidats 2 - soon to be 80 grandpas)

If we can just flip Fournier for a player that knows his role, we'll be better.

Magic should do what Thunders are doing. Accumulate first rounds for AG, Fournier, Ross And Vuc while they still have value instead of trying to fight for 8th seed every year. Tank properly and see what happens.

I might be in the minority, but I am fine with the moves we are making. With Isaac out for the year I feel like this became a lost year in a sense and now its a feeler year as to what the team can become and I am seeing this from the front office with the small one year deals to remain flexible for next years free agency when big moves need to happen.

The trade market is where we need to hit a bit harder and my number one priority is not even Fournier. If we can't find value, I am okay with letting him finish his year and let him walk away. My number one priority is getting rid of Aminu though, I do not want his salary on our books next year when it matters. So I am looking at getting rid of him maybe in conjunction with Evan if possible for an expiring like Porter Jr or even Batum, maybe do a sign and trade and overpay someone like Millsap for one year to match salaries and send them to Denver if that is possible. Something like that would make me very happy.

As far as our other vets Ross, Vuc and AG, as time passes and contracts decline, they become an easier to trade imo if we need to trade them so I am in no rush with them. But Aminu has to go!

I just don't see any scenario where the Magic aren't significantly worse than last season.

Augustin, for all his warts, was a very positive contributor to many lineups. They're replacing him with a rookie who struggled MIGHTILY last year in college and can't realistically be expected to be anything but below average, if not outright bad.

Iwundu was a positive contributor when he got minutes last year. They're replacing him with a guy who graded out as one of the worst players in the NBA last season.

Isaac was one of the most impactful defensive players in basketball the last two seasons. They're replacing him with a rookie and a guy who shot under 30% from the floor last year.

Unless Fultz has an unexpected breakout offensively, it definitely seems like this team is looking at like 30 wins in a 72 game schedule.

When I think in an anti-forums optimistic way, this is exactly how I feel and exactly what I see too. Really well said BCS.

Why do you guys always set yourself for disappointment? This is an extremely conservative ownership and management team.

The Magic finished 7 games under .500 last year.

Five of their top nine rotation players are going to be 30 years old this year.

What are we doing here?

bringing back everyone but Isaac, we already know what the team can become. Porter is young, more potential and under salary control for awhile, doubtful at all to put together a package to get him.

I don’t understand why we are legitimately running it back. I knew this would happen when we hired Clifford (not blaming him) we are the Charlotte hornets of a few years ago. 8-9 seed with no direction. I will always be a magic fan, but this $H&M is getting annoying every year. Just blow it up and keep Isaac, fultz, chuma, cole and tank next year, but we all know that won’t happen.

Let’s be honest, it’s like rearranging chairs on the already sunk Titanic at the bottom of the ocean floor. Which makes it all the more delusional :banghead:

IMO, they haven't made any mistakes yet (Anthony, Ennis, Bacon, MCW, Evan...) but the stage is now set for a trade of AG and/or Evan with filler available in Aminu as needed. If they don't make a trade now, I'll be disappointed. If they don't make a significant move at the trade deadline, I'll join the torch-waving mob demanding their heads.

My honest hope is that Vucevic and Gordon have great seasons but they lay a giant turd on the 20-21 season and are the worst team in the league. Trade AG, Vuc, and Fournier at the deadline and just run the young guys the rest of the way. At the deadline I’m sure the Clippers, Lakers, Celtics and Nuggets could use those guys as players to put them over the top for a Finals run. Get some picks and young assets for them. Then the day after the regular season ends, fire Weltman and Hammond and bring in a GM whose bold enough to build a contender. I’m actually fine with Clifford as coach. I’d like to see his coaching abilities with a contenders roster.
You look confused...let me fill you in.
