Maybe he is not a star but players who can guard 1-3 and be defensive stopper are valueable.

That expetations... from 5th pick to hopefully pesky bench dog. :x

Its not ideal, but he still has chance to be good role player, propably even starter. I dont think he will ever be a lead ball handler but as secondary ball handler he can have success
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

There’s more to playing off-ball than spotting up:

Remember when Kobe elbowed Jameer in the chin so hard Jameer was knocked down and sent skidding across the floor?

Yep. We’ve got a team full of guys who can catch and go on a drive or make the extra pass if needed. Even if we don’t have the best shooters for spacing, we have the tools to disrupt a defense and get guys open.

Number 5 picks befor Suggs this century
2020 Isaac Okoro, Auburn - Cavaliers Cavaliers
2019 Darius Garland, Vanderbilt – Cleveland Cavaliers
2018 Trae Young, Oklahoma – Atlanta Hawks
2017 De’Aaron Fox, Kentucky – Sacramento Kings
2016 Kris Dunn, Providence – Minnesota Timberwolves
2015 Mario Hezonja, FC Barcelona Basquet – Orlando Magic
2014 Dante Exum, Australia – Utah Jazz
2013 Alex Len, Maryland – Phoenix Suns
2012 Thomas Robinson, Kansas – Sacramento Kings
2011 Jonas Valanciunas, Lithuania – Toronto Raptors
2010 Demarcus Cousins, Kentucky – Sacramento Kings
2009 Ricky Rubio, Spain – Minnesota Timberwolves
2008 Kevin Love, UCLA – Memphis Grizzlies
2007 Jeff Green, Georgetown – Boston Celtics
2006 Shelden Williams, Duke – Atlanta Hawks
2005 Raymond Felton, North Carolina – Charlotte Bobcats
2004 Devin Harris, Wisconsin – Washington Wizards
2003 Dwyane Wade, Marquette – Miami HEAT
2002 Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Italy – Denver Nuggets
2001 Jason Richardson, Michigan State – Golden State Warriors
2000 Mike Miller, Florida – Orlando Magic

So 7 all stars out of 21, 6 or so flops (Herzonja, Exum, Len, Robinson, Shelden, Tskitishvili) - the chances and expectations for the 5th pick to become someting more than a serviceable player should be around 33%. Save for a big injury Suggs is going to have a better career than the second group of players, so thats something we can take.

Garland , Trae , Fox , Jonas , Cousins, Rubio , Love , Green , Wade , Richardson , Miller actually have a preet good and ( the first 3 remains to be seen ) long career based on nba standards.

Of course, but if we were promised that we were getting the next rubio, jgreen or mike miller at the night of the drarft, most fans wont be thrilled.
im trying to answer peppes question and my point is that it's statistically unreasonable to expect №5 pick to become a superstar.

Right now Black is a third stringer and Howard is a forth stringer. How are either rookie going to get 30 minutes?
Howard in particular will log DNP-CDs. When's the last time lottery players got loads of those?
Who knows how many of the guards will be injured at the beginning of the season. Black and Howard can backup the SFs, too. The other 4 guards we have are all under 6'4" and can't really play SF.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but it is plausible that Black and Howard are your injured guards in such a scenario.

How can they be injured if they are sitting on the bench?

Some questions I have about the upcoming off-season activity:

How common are trades?
What are the front offices doing during this time?
Coaching staffs?

I know players are doing their own thing; training, resting, playing.

The scouts are very, very busy right now. The PBOs/GMs are probably in more of a summer mode though. Why wouldn't Weltman just let Coach Mosley pick whatever 2way players he wants? There is no cost to management in that.
