The Cavs offered the top pick in the draft, Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters for Kevin Love, according to ESPN.com.
It's an interesting package, but it's not going to be enough to pry one of the league's best power forwards. The Cavs aren't really tied to any specific player with the first overall pick, so it makes a lot of sense that they would try and deal it. Even though Love is coming off a disastrous year, shooting 35.2 percent from the field in only 18 games, he still has top-five fantasy upside
I'm not sure I could turn that down if I was Minnesota.
If im minn, i accept that deal so quickly
I think Love is one of the best PF's in the NBA a guy you can build around, but when you have a chance to get the #1 pick in the draft, a 22 year old PF who averaged almost 12/10 last year and a 21 year old SG who averaged 15ppg last year for a player thats expressed in the past that we would like a trade, i dont see how you turn that down
Only "problem" i see is that they wanted to trade up for Olidipo, but if they are getting back waiters, would they really take Dipo #1? Either way, if im them i accept that trade immediately

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. LVI - NBA Draft Edition
The Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Clippers have been discussing the possibility of completing a trade headlined by Magic shooting guard Arron Afflalo and prized L.A. point guard Eric Bledsoe in conjunction with Thursday's NBA draft, according to sources close to the process.
Sources told ESPN.com on Tuesday that a trade with those two players as the principles could happen as soon as this week and potentially could be expanded to include Magic forward Andrew Nicholson and a future first-round pick as compensation for the highly coveted Bledsoe.
But the long-awaited arrival of Doc Rivers as the Clippers' new coach and senior vice president of basketball operations could push any Bledsoe trade into July -- or maybe even longer -- because Rivers is a well-known Bledsoe fan who has indicated he'd like to keep Bledsoe around if possible.

If we trade a first like this article mentions for an expiring contract that's just nuts. Bledsoe has potential but that's about it, one of our firsts could be a lot more valuable given the state of our franchise.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. LVI - NBA Draft Edition
You know, any young guy that Hennigan is interested in is going to be great. I think we all can agree Bledsoe is gonna be a great player. He's worth AA/Nicholson but I'm not sure I'd add a 1st rounder. Maybe we can get a 3rd team involved to give them a 1st rounder?
But think about it this way, Harkless/Harris/Vucevic were all having quiet seasons, not getting much play time, MUCH like Bledsoe, and look what they turned out to be..Bledsoe is a gem. Book it.

Rob Hennigan has maybe done more research and scouted Noel heavier than any team in the Draft. They like him. They think he’s a fit. I would agree with him. And they’re going to swing for the fences and take the guy that they think has the most potential.

I imagine we'd be trading next year's knicks/nuggets pick or a 2nd rounder. I also see no reason to give up AN. Taking back Butler is enough payment. Now if we don't need Butler and move him to a 3rd team, the deal might end up different.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. LVI - NBA Draft Edition
egh that 2015 SHOULDNT be worth much by then considering we are getting the #2 pick this year and likely a high pic again next year. So if you consider Bledsoe a long term solution at PG i dont see why you wouldnt make that trade
Put it this way, if Bledsoe is our long term PG, and we draft Noel this year
Our Starting lineup by the end of the season would be something like Vucevic/noel/harris/harkless/bledsoe. That team likely will be a top 5 picking team next year, so add in either Wiggins/Parker/Smart/Randle/one of the harrison twins. That 2015 team WILL be a playoff team and likely a high seeded one at that. Does anyone really care about a bottom 3rd 1st rounder?
Now, again this only makes sense if we plan on re-signing him and keeping him long term

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. LVI - NBA Draft Edition
And it really comes down to one number. They find a predictive quality in steals. When big men get steals, they have found that that number is predictive of NBA success. You get a lot of steals as a big man. The people that have done that in the past in college have gone on to have great NBA careers. If you don’t get steals it shows the opposite, that big men that can’t get steals in college when they get to the NBA, they fail.
What do you have? You have Nerlens Noel, 2.2 steals a game, which is phenomenal for a big man. What do you have in Alex Len? 0.3 steals a game, horrible even for a big man. All of a sudden there’s the big change, even though Alex Len does other things better than Noel, you weigh those various factors and try to find out which ones predict NBA success.
And the analytics guys will fight about this. Noel and Len will be a really interesting case because it’s really clear what’s separating the two and the analytical systems, and we’re going to find out does that really hold true in this case. Does the fact that Alex Len did not get steals at Maryland, was it predictive of some sort of problem that he had as a player, whether it’s motor athleticism or quickness that’s going to haunt him at the NBA level?

If we're giving up AA/Nicholson for Bledsoe + a possible future 1st/2nd rounder, you better believe he's in the picture for long term.

Why is this Bledsoe thing a "draft-day trade". Are we overlooking something obvious there?
