I don't agree with this.

It would absolutely be *nice* and probably preferrable to get a SG/SF, but I will say this until I'm blue in the face that this is the first step in what's likely going to be a lengthy rebuilding process.

It's not fair to expect the Magic to fill every need in this draft, nor is it fair to assume the young guys currently here are even capable of being rotation pieces moving forward either.

The Magic should firmly draft the player they believe will be the best overall basketball player and then balance the roster with trades accordingly.

If that's Mobley or Sengun, then you pick them and move on from Carter or Bamba or both.

If that's Suggs, then you pick him and move on from Fultz or Anthony or both.

No player on the roster right now is so good or irreplaceable that they should change who the Magic consider with either pick.

100%

With that said, we can't have a situation where we draft a player and then bury him the way we did with Bamba. I wonder what we'll do if we're fortunate enough to grab Suggs. There is not enough playing time for Fultz, Suggs, Cole, RJ, Harris, and Ross. And that's not even bringing up MCW who is under contract next year.

If we get a high profile draft pick, Harris and Ross are taking a back seat. Not exactly the situation that Bamba ran into with Vuc being an All-Star and signing a contract making him the highest Magic player.

We DEFINITELY need a wing more than a big.

If you are interested in a player at any of these three positions, you have to ask yourself if you feel that player can be better than what you have there?

That might be a "Yes" with Evan Mobley. Carter and Bamba have not shown consistency yet at Center.

Are you also going to find a player who you like better than what The Magic have at point guard and power forward that you could get minutes for and not be buried? I'm not so sure.

Given how this Draft is wing heavy, I just see one of these picks as a wing given these factors as there are minutes to be had at wing.

I mean obviously any decision involving one of the two positions (PG and C) where players typically don't/can't share the floor with other players at that position comes with the caveat how well that player compares to what the Magic already have.

If the front office doesn't think Sengun is better than both WCJ *and* Bamba, then they shouldn't pick him. It would be a waste even if he's a slightly better prospect than someone else on the board.

But if the front office does think Sengun can and will be better than those guys, then they should pick him and just trade WCJ or Bamba (or both candidly) away.

It's up to the front office to ensure these guys aren't buried by making moves to alleviate roster crunches.

Picking Sengun and then not trading away at least one, if not both of WCJ/Bamba would be complete roster malpractice.

Picking Suggs and then not trading away at least one, if not both of Fultz/Anthony would be the same.

Yes, the easiest path moving forward for the Magic would be to just select the best SG/SF on the board and slot them into the existing young talent already here. But I certainly wouldn't do that at the expense of a better player at another position.

Is it just me or moving forward I have Okeke as a SF. So that would mean JI as our only PF ( unless we bring back our 3rd string big in Wagner )

It would be fun though because Franz and Okeke are multi-positional in the F spot. So Franz is someone im ok with. I mean Cade , Franz and Okeke sharing the SF slot could work (lol)

But yeah with the way these draft picks are shaping up... I think I will really wait until the combine and interviews before I can see a choice moving ahead of the pack.

He's a three. Clifford calls him a four and uses him as a four and it doesn't work. He is smaller than everyone he matches up with and he has an 8.3 rebound rate. That's lower than Ennis and Anthony. We've been a really bad rebounding team when he has been on the floor. This shortcoming can be mitigated if we just slide him up one position.

Well.. Im not complaining much because its a great tank move.Hopefully next season we get to see more of Chuma on the SF spot especially seeing him be more comfortable in his body after the injuries. He just need to get back to his proper weight and form and I think he will do fine in the SF position. To me he is in the LBJ, Melo, Harris type of SF rather than the Middleton, Barrett, Wiggins type

Okeke is a 3 and Isaac is a 4. Pretty obviously.

Ultimately I think Okeke is going to be best served as a backup SF/PF on a good team.

Good role player, but ultimately a 20-25 MPG guy.

He wouldn't be a guy I'd pencil in as a starter.

Too early to tell for our rookie no? Who knows... remember what they say " hard work beats talent " okeke is already talented, if he outworks everyone else...

If Clifford is here, I think Okeke starts. He never wants to take him out.

How's this for a scenario...

Magic pick: Cade Cunningham
Bulls pick: Franz Wagner
2nd round pick: Joel Ayayi

Resign Moritz Wagner, Ignas Brazdeikis and Donta Hall for the minimum to fill out your third string. Do not resign Ennis, Porter Jr, Randle, Thornwell or Bacon. Punt Ross into someone's cap space for a 2022 1st.

2021-2022 rotation

PG: Markelle Fultz/Cole Anthony/Michael Carter-Williams
SG: Gary Harris/RJ Hampton/Joel Ayayi
SF: Cade Cunningham/Chuma Okeke/Ignas Brazdeikis
PF: Jonathan Isaac/Franz Wagner/Moritz Wagner
C: Wendell Carter/Mo Bamba/Donta Hall

I could deal with it.

I just think it depends on how the draft shakes out. If they get Cade, I suspect he'll be the starting 3.

That’s the ideal scenario give or take whichever other wing Orlando lands with the Bulls pick.

Not only is this a competitive team for 2021/22, it has long-term assets locked up to be a potential conference leader from 2022/23.

I (almost) like everything about that roster. For Mr. 15, I would think a 30-year old vet within playoff experience over Hall makes sense. It is about locker room presence. Orlando needs the next Stacey Augmon for this kind of role. Someone like Ed Davis, JaVale McGee, Boban Marjanović, or Gorgui Dieng.

To the topic of this thread, if the Magic draft F. Wagner, does that guarantee Vic Wagner is resigned? I think yes.

I can’t help but feel the Mo Wagner signing was an indication Franz is high on our list as well.

Give me Cade + Ayo

WCJ/Bamba
Isaac/Mo Wag
Cade/Chuma/MCW
Ayo/RJ/Harris
Cole/Fultz

If they played their roles, Cade and Ayo could carry the offense with Cole and the bigs feeding off open looks generated. WCJ and Isaac could probably already hold a defense together alone, but everyone is actually a solid defender in that group except Fultz.

I’d give Fultz the season to rehab and return off the bench but if he can’t shoot he won’t get the starting spot and I’d be looking to move him after that.

Why is Clifford so dense? Okeke is definitely a 3. Part time-small ball 4..? ...ok.

How Clifford treats Okeke going forward will make or break him. We saw how good he was when he was part of the game plan and we've seen how he disappears when he's not.

To me Okeke is PF, just needs to have good rebounding center next to him. He does not create shots for himself nor he draws many fouls or drives at rim all that much. Only 15% of all his FGA are at rim.

I assume our projected next year' starting 5 ,depending who we draft should be:
Fultz / Cole / Hampton
Harris /Ross / Hampton
drafted player/ FA signing
Isaac / Okeke
Carter/ Bamba (if one of them is not traded )

I'd keep Ross, Ennis, and Otto. Get rid of Hall, Iggy, and the second round pick. Plus the salary floor is 109m this year, and I only counted up like 100m in that lineup.
