This is good value for 1 year I feel. I always liked RoLo and he will provide good depth at center. Neither Bamba or WCJ have proven they can last a full season without getting injured.

He said Mo is going to get his opportunity, but it is all on Mo at this point. Why would they move him before giving him that opportunity?

This signing makes zero sense to me, so maybe I am the one that can't see the angle. I don't know, unless this is just a message to the young guys that it's time and this is it. Or maybe it is just veteran leadership and a traditional big in practice.

Frankly, I was hoping to see JI for at least a few minutes a game at the 5.

They want him gone and out of the league so they can be "right."

Hammer meet nail. That is EXACTLY right.

This signing means zilch. A one year vet signing for depth and mentoring. Period.

We are a team fully invested in developing players. The last thing we're going to do is toss out a 23 years old, former Top 7 pick with the longest wingspan in recorded NBA history like he's a piece of trash. WTF did Bamba do to some of you people? Get a grip. There are not many Centers his size who can rebound, block and space the floor like him. Yeah, he has some things to work on like the rest of our young players. He fits the modern prototype for a new age Center. If the Magic dump him, they will regret it.

Robin Lopez is the perfect model for him. Lopez is not going to come in here trying to kick start his career, hog up balls, or act like a panty when he doesn't get minutes. He's been a career role player for the last 13 years. He's a tiger that knows his stripes.

It is starting to get really ridiculous. I mean where are we going this year? Might as well give him just one more shot. And you know if he pulls an Oladipo they will never mention how they wanted his ass out then rip management a new one for "giving up on him early and getting fleeced" Can someone explain to me what benefit we gain by giving him up now? His contract is guaranteed for this year right? Even if it wasn't are we ok just dumping a possible asset just to save money and not sign anyone else with it? Ok I guess we could trade him. But for what? The max I see is second round pick which our management doesn't put any value in at all lmao. Everyone wants to seize on Hammonds comments and that he is gone. That is not what he said. He said its entirely up to him to take that next step. He will have one more year to prove he belongs in this league. I dont see a downside in changing that. If he cant beat out Robin Lopez then **** he wont have a future in the NBA.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

Im sorry what? Since when has Birch even sniffed that 5m/yr kind of money? Didn't we pay him less than 2m/yr?

Good signing at a reasonable price. Who cares overpaying a player if it's for a one year deal?
Anyway, I believe the money is fair

Wait.. sorry I misquoted you. I shouldve quoted drsd when he mentioned the 5m/yr Birch money

5M is Khem Birch money and even at 3rd stringer, I love this deal. Add to that that for me neither Carter nor Bamba has demonstrated starting capacity, for now, C is the second weakest position for the Magic after PF.

Yeah... since when did Birch even sniff 5m/yr? As far as I remember we paid him 2m or less per year. Birch would cream for that kind of contract.

Can realistically argue WCJ didn't even outplay Mo when they played at the same time at the end of last year.

Also, Bulls fans talked about WCJ exactly how we talk about Mo. They just have different strengths/weaknesses in terms of on court stuff.

I really don’t think this means Bamba is traded. I think they’ve paid him to be the 3rd stringer, backup when one of the young guys inevitably gets injured and to kick their ass in practice every day.

Yeah.. why does this mean bye-bye Mo?

We had a very high usage C before and we still played Mo AND Birch. Now consider that both Mo and WCJ right now won't even sniff the amount of minutes Vuc usually gets, then RLo can just chill and sometimes play when foul trouble, injuries or whatever

Lopez sets amazing screens. That should be emphasized with our young Cs.

I mean, Mo or WCJ may be moved, but it isn't because of Robin **** Lopez lol

Great signing. Glad to have RoLo. Everyone has it so completely wrong about Lopez "stealing" minutes from wcj and mo. If those young men don't work hard enough they don't deserve those minutes. Ever since vuc was traded it was just a given that wcj and mo would have their playing time. This signing is not just about depth. It's a reality check for 2 young inconsistent players that are playing this year with something to prove for their next contracts. If they can't get off of the bench and outplay a 33 year old role player then they won't get the big payday they probably want.

Every team needs 3 Centers. This is a mentor role plain and simple...this will be a big year for WCJ and Mo to establish their future trajectories- with us or another team. ROLO will mentor, referee, provoke, lighten the mood, add intensity when needed...you really think we're signing FA's to be more competitive? Stop it

At least another year before those kind of moves would even enter the equation...If every youngster on the team outplays their own projection, maybe we make moves at the trade deadline to push into the playoffs, but that ain't the plan right now. Given the age and potential of our kids, even surprising success this season won't provoke those kinds of moves yet - it would just indicate that WeHam and Mosley are on track with their vision for the team.

(Although I admit that getting Suggs and Wagner makes me feel like we jumped ahead a year or two)

one thing it gives magic at trade deadline 1 expiring vet center for 5 mill in lopez.. or young rfa center if they make choice on mo,wcj
1 expiring vet pg-sg for 3 mill in mcw..
and sg-sf vet with 1 yr on contract for 11 mill in ross
and a tpe for 17 mill from evan trade...
any playoff team needs for assets...lol
