My hunch is if everything goes the way the front office and coaching staff want Fultz stays healthy.. they trade him at the deadline and move Cole into the starting line-up. I think they feel like the Suggs/Cole starting back court has more potential and is more ideal and complimentary than the Fultz/Suggs back court. In a perfect world if they remain patient they probably hope Black is playable as the backup PG with Jett as the backup shooting guard by next season.

I have to eat some crow on this one. I always thought Cole Anthony was going to try and find a way to get to the Knicks. This shows he's more than willing to stay with the Magic.
The contract seems in line with market value - maybe even a little below market value. If Cole can continue to improve efficiency as he did last season, it could prove to be an absolute steal. Overall, terrific job by the front office to get this done.

I think he's smart enough to know he can't start in NY but he very could be the starter in Orlando by next year or sooner. In the end players want to start. It means a lot to guys.

He got way less than i was expecting, i thought the MINIMUM he would get would be 15 per, and that was to take a lower deal to go somewhere he wanted (maybe NY or charlotte or something?)
Love seeing him brought back. His offense off the best is such a bright spot

I would be *very* surprised if this happens.
More likely is that Fultz just gets resigned after the season and they go into next season with Fultz/Suggs/Anthony/Black as the four primary guards and Jett works in as Franz's backup.

Seems like a great value extension, he seems like an amazing locker room guy and (hopefully) 6th man of the year contender!
I still believe in Magic! Welcome to the Franz & Paolo era

Has anyone seen a study on the percentage of the cap typically allocated to rotation slots 1 through 10? I'm curious how this tends to shake out. I'd expect 25% for the first 2 spots and then a decline from there.

Magic give fultz a contract at 17/year a few years ago to be the starting point guard. Today they give Cole a contract at 13/year. Take into account inflation and increased salary cap. We just paid joe Ingles 11/year at 36 years old. Coles contract is more of a stop gap/backup plan. Balls in fultzs court and AB court to show they're worth more.

Let's put ourselves in Cole's shoes and his agent for a moment, okay?
A starter is going to be able to negotiate a bigger contract, right?
Don't you think that the topic of the timeline to Cole starting came at up at some point between he and his agent and then mentioned during negotiations by his agent to the organization?
I played basketball at many different levels for 20 or so years. I've had friends that have played pro ball in Mexico and Australia and several friends that have played college basketball. In the game of basketball STARTING is a HUGE deal amongst players. Most players that are good enough want to start for the highest of symbolic purposes. I think there is ZERO chance Cole hasn't intimated his desire to start with the coaches and with the front office at some point.
I also think last year the Cole/Suggs back court showed more synergy than Fultz/Harris. My hunch is they envision Cole/Suggs as the starting back court of the future.. the very near future.

If Cole thought he could get a contract to start next somewhere year, he'd have gone into free agency.
There's no starting spot for him here. Not this year. Not next year.

Signing a contract for almost identical pay as Gary Harris/joe Ingles would come with expectations of Gary Harris/joe Ingles contributions. Cole signed that deal. That's pretty much him saying he's ok with it, otherwise he would've gambled on himself and his ability to play his way into a significantly better contract from us or any other team in the off-season.
The fact that Cole signed this deal to me means he's actually more worried about AB taking minutes from him and losing any chance to play for a contract in a contract year.

Nah I don't agree with this. To me this just tells me he wants to play in Orlando. He likes the group of guys and he feels like he has a good opportunity here to prove who he is as a basketball player. He probably sees that there is a good chance he could be starting at the 1 here at some point so why leave? He probably thinks like most people he can have he's piece of cake and eat it too.
He sees one of his friends (Jalen Suggs) just nabbed a starting spot and he can do it also. That's how players think.
