You make it sound like he is some orphaned kid. He is 27 and seems bright enough, if he is traded, he'll get it.
If something is hurting him, it's the fact that he is injured in the year he is playing his best basketball, that's bad both professionally and financially for him.
You make it sound like there isn’t a human being behind that trade request. He got injured 1 day ago and all of a sudden he is worthless to the team? He has played his best basketball and that doesn’t even give us a chance to allow him to rehab? We are not winning anything, what is the harm of letting him stay and rehab for the remainder of the season?
Because he will rehab anyway? Traded or not. And he will get his 11 m - traded or not. Trading him and then getting him back can easily work.
He is "worthless" in the sense he can not play basketball right now - no one is advocating banish his name or something.
Imagine you there is a bus driver, they are injured in a work-related accident, horrible i know, but will anyone ask for the line to stop working till the driver comes back? or maybe even allow them to drive while rehabing and not being able to walk?
Let me ask you something, if, God forbid, Paolo get injured and he is out for the remainder of this year and he won’t be able to play until 2026-2027 season, do you still sign him to another contract or do you let his next season play out and simply trade him at the trade deadline? I mean, we can let him go and when he has rehabbed we can simply resign him.
I know what you’ll say that Paolo is a little more important on this team. But the difference is, we would wait for Paolo to rehab and we’ll give him full access to the facilities and team doctors to continue his rehab. Nothing would be paid out of his pocket. But Mo? We can simply trade him and hope to get him back after rehab.
I don’t like your analogy. I understand another player is needed to take his place, and we have players who aren’t getting playing time that can fill in. But an injured bus driver would be able to get workers comp and the company would pay for his injuries and rehab even if another bus driver is needed to take his place. If we let Mo go then the rehab is on him and he got hurt on the job. I don’t care how much these players make, they should not have to pay to rehab a work injury.
My point is this, nobody should have to pay for rehab when it is on the job. Trading a player releases the responsibility of the corporation, it is not fair.
