Wouldn't an NBA defense just bait him into going to the hoop if he's gonna shoot worse than D1 average (which I assume includes all the tiny guards) at the rim?
He was double and tripled team every time he went into the paint.

He was double and triple teamed every time? Every single time? How many times were Paolo and Chet double teamed in the paint? I'm guessing a similar amount.

I'm happy with either Chet or Jabari at #1. I think they both fit in well with our current core defensively and swapping either out for Bamba immediately improves us on that end. I also think that both fit well offensively and can play on or off ball.

Jabari has an easier path to stardom at the next level IMO, his shooting will translate day 1 and I disagree that he can't create for himself - I've seen him create shots at all three levels over the last year. He's not that efficient taking defenders off the dribble but the base skills are there and ball-handling is a skill that can be improved. I think his best comp is MPJr with good defense.

Chet has the higher ceiling though, if everything goes as well as it possibly could he can be KD with better defense or Giannis with a 3pt shot (appreciate that these are two very different players but how he builds out his body effects which path he would take). However, his bust potential is also higher due to the frame.

I think I lean Chet ultimately as you shoot for the moon with #1 and he's got the highest potential in the draft, but I would be super happy with Jabari too.

Chet is a center and played next to Timme, who averaged 19ppg in the post, and had good guard play. A timme ruins the spacing.
Paolo played next to a center with zero spacing and good perimeter shooters.
Jabari played next to a center that offers zero spacing, good guard play who were not great shooters.

None of them had good spacing. Paolo worked in ISO a lot, and would clear out room for him to operate.
The question is what does Jabari need to be successful, good guard play is what i would think, because he is relying on someone to assist him. He had that.

NBA spacing is so different they will all get a rather large bump, and probably Paolo in particular.

I think the thing that stands out here. On Chet how few midrangers he took. You think of a skinny center who can't bully his way into the post he would end up settling for mid range turn arounds. Also his trailing three is pretty evident

Thank you!!! Would you also be able to pull it up for Ivey? I'm just curious.

Can we make this poll editable? I want to change my vote to Chet.

This is a pretty interesting piece coming up with comps for Paolo, and discuss Jabari and Chet(briefly)

https://deanondraft.com/2022/03/24/where-does-paolo-banchero-fit-in-the-modern-nba-and-2022-draft/

I am still hoping the Magic FO are 100% on who they want. Me, i can. be talked into any of the top 3.

Dream scenario for me(since i am not 100% on anyone). Con OKC that we are taking Chet as bpa, and trade 1 for 2&12, then trade 2 for 3&future picks.

Draft whoever is left over at 3. Hope one of AJ Griffin, Sochan, or Dyson Daniels is there at 12...
Yah, I know trades rarely happen, counting on 2 (or more) is silly, but hey we're a month away...gotta speculate about something.

FWIW that writer probably highest person I saw on Franz last year(4 overall), and really sold me on Franz

It probably won't make a difference on who we draft.

Chet is such a beast around the basket, that's always surprising. I think if you go for the highest upside swing, that's who you take.

Reasonably I think I'd take the "safer" pick and go Jabari, but all 3 are close in my eyes and I wouldn't mind any of them.

I have and will likely flip flop between prospects(Smith, Chet and Ivey), but as for yesterday and today I'm in the Banchero camp.

Pretty good article. Right now I’m torn between Paolo and Chet.

Really wish we had more info on Sharpe.

Let's just pretend Chet and J are the exact same player (skills wise) - who is more marketable to help Orlando (which used to be a house hold name many many many years ago) become somewhat relevant again in the world of Mickey Mouse, small market, decade of tanking basketball?

Easily Chet.

And that is by himself. The Suggs connection is just a cherry on top from a marketing perspective.

Based on those charts, I don't know what to make of Jabari's shooting around the basket compared to NCAA average. But I would be hesitant to make too much of Chet's high percentages based on his height advantage in the WCC. When you watch highlights of Chet's inside baskets a vast majority of them just look like the really tall guy scoring over the shorter guy. I don't see more skill around the basket than Jabari shows. And as has been pointed out previously, his scoring numbers went way down against bigger and ranked teams.

Also, both Chet and Paolo had the advantage of being on good teams with lots of talent around them. Smith was more of a one-man gang in a tough conference.

And look, Jabari's game is primarily outside shooting and that's exactly what we want and need.
