According to Mike Scotto, Orlando tried trading for NAW at this years deadline which is inline with what Weltman said at the presser (asking too much for a rental).
Orlando will reiterate interest with NAW this summer with the NTMLE.

I wonder what the plans or thoughts are for him and his role on this team.
I’m assuming taking over Cole’s production off the bench? Maybe Harris replacement?

He's listed as a Forward. Can he play guard? He definitely fits the team defensively and can help score.
I d love Murphy and Melton

It would make more sense for NAW to be the KCP replacement at 2/3 of the price than the Gary Harris replacement at double the price.
Just my two cents.

I'm curious, too. An MLE needs to either be a 5th starter or a 6th man, so that is either a 2nd or 3rd guard. I doubt he beats out KCP and I'm not sure he'll beat out AB, so I think it would actually be a 4th guard, but that would mean around 16-18 MPG, which would be quite the overpay.

To me I think the MLE is a bargain worth using for a guy like NAW even if the role is a little hazy. I think it would be a positive value contract and doesn't cost a pick to acquire as a bonus. He also played like half of his minutes at the 3 this year. You could probably play AB/Guard/NAW/Isaac/Center pretty easily. Plus you can't have enough guard depth with Suggs' injury history.

My two cents are that KCP brings a different kind of value than what NAW could possibly provide. This value often doesn’t show in the box score or can be measured. Off court/experience/mentorship/leadership is as important as on court production.
But generally I agree with you.

I suspect very strongly that Suggs isn't going to play a ton of minutes next year. His knee surgery was a lot more complex than people realize. I think they're going to baby his minutes all year.

that's my thoughts as well play NAW at the 3 since right now we don't really have a backup for Franz..
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

Yup. Would be nice if TDS is ready, but they just weren't willing to play him in the playoffs so I think getting another guy in the mix for that spot is fine. Our backup wing options in the postseason were atrocious. Caleb getting 10 minutes a game doing nothing, Gary Harris 16 minutes a game for 1 PPG. AB was at least competent, but still not good.
Plus I just think its a unique situation where nobody has money in free agency so some good players will go for the MLE and under. If ownership is willing to pay the money, why not get a rotation guy that way? Not like the contract will be a burden.

I believe we don’t have the MLE to offer unless we renounce everyone (Gary, Caleb, Mo, CoJo).
Not sure why NAW would’ve been made available at the deadline on a title contender.
NOLA would be crazy to trade Herb Jones or Murphy. They should build around those two.

I think Isaac is a lot like Okeke. Basketball is not their first love but it pays good. Okeke first love was music and Isaac has religion. I'm not expecting much improvement offensively from Isaac and if he can't play 24 minutes/game they need to trade him.jezzerinho wrote:Don't agree with Pepe that JI will be on a vet min shortly, but I do agree with just about everything else.
I think it's pretty damning to be honest that he's been out injured so much and yet hasn't managed to develop himself to be anything better than horrible on offense.
I'm not sure what his priorities are but being a well rounded player doesn't seem to be one of them.
Suggs has worked hard on his O, Cole developed his game, Paolo has improved on D etc etc and yet all the while JI has been static as a high effort disruptor and really nothing more.

Declining the team options on Moritz, Gary and CoJo does the trick.

We'll get the full NT-MLE by getting that much space below the first apron. So if we drop below ~$181.8 we'll have the full NT-MLE to spend. The main catch is that we can't exceed the first apron by using the NT-MLE.

I wouldn't get my hopes up about the Magic using the MLE. Teams that use the MLE are then hard capped at the 1st apron ($195M). If we renounce all our FA's were at around $175M. If we sign NAW for around $14M we're at around $189M, then add our 2 1st RD picks ~$6M we're at $195M and we have no room to re-sign Mo and/or another player.eyriq wrote:Magic_Johnny12 wrote:

Because they had like 300 men under contracts and Okeke was hurt so he agreed to not sign contract right away.
Worked wonders for both sides
