Everyone worries about Paolo leaving, but we'd get a massive haul for Paolo or Franz.

Step 3 - Sign NAW for full MLE
Step 4 - Draft Walter Clayton Jr. at 25 and Amari Williams at 46
Step 5 - Resign Moe (less than he makes now)

New roster

G: Suggs, Black, Clayton
G: Simons, Alexander-Walker, Howard
F: F. Wagner, Houstan, da Silva
F: Banchero, Isaac
C: Carter, Bitadze, Williams

Rehabbing: M. Wagner

Thoughts?

That's a nice summer and completely realistic, imo...I'm not so sure I'd take Clayton after getting Simons. I'd be fine with him, but I'd want to base it on who drops (as I'm sure anybody would)...Ideally, I'd address the C spot and move out Goga too, but this would be nice.

Full disclosure... I basically pulled two names out of a hat when it comes to the draft.

Not a strong roster
Bit of an overpay for Simons and I don't think
Portland would do the step 2 u unless they reroot KCP

Full mle for naw is a big overpay
Suggs, Tyus, Jase
Bane, AB, Jett
Franz, TDS,
P5, JI, Panda

Orlando doesn’t have the luxury to trade home grown stars (for better or worse).

You can’t pledge continuity, organic development for years and convince your fanbase this is the only pathway to success and just simply trade away your franchise player because you could simply get a haul for them.

Orlando tried that with Oladipo and failed miserably. They will not make that same mistake again.

If we traded Paolo (out of nowhere without any real justification) it would receive Luka/Dallas level kind of hate.

This.

Orlando still doesn’t have a true point guard.

Overpay for Simons to simply be forced to overpay him via free agency.

This might be “realistic” but definitely not an ideal or successful summer imo.

Essentially, they get 16, Jett (prospect) and a 6th man type guard in cole for a year rental + Gary who is expiring and a good vet for them. Maybe Cole even sticks there. Or they lose Simons for nothing to FA? Maybe another team outbids us?

The Magic need to decline Gary's $7.5M team option to get far enough under the first apron to be able to use their full MLE which will hard cap them at the first apron.

Picking his option up and trading him doesn't help that because that's one fewer contract outgoing in a deal.

KCP staying would mean likely no full MLE usage.

Got it. I guess in my mind I dont have them using the MLE. Or would Moe fall under that? I expect them to trade cole jett gary 16 for Simons. Then sign Moe to a 2yr/18mil guaranteed. Resign Cojo to minimum and sign Taurean Prince to minimum deal or slightly above if allowed.

Simons, AB, Cojo
Suggs, KCP, Caleb
Franz, Prince, TDS
Paolo, JI
WCJ, Moe, Goga

Pick 25.

I think this team above is a legit contender in the east for many years to come if Simons signs on at somewhat of a discount. Plus, we will be adding hopefully a lottery pick to this team the following year.

I wonder if Minny is interested in S&T NAW to not lose him for nothing.

Definitely was surprising to hear that scenario after all the talk and assumptions of just declining options to gain the NTMLE. Good rumor, we'll see how it plays out.

I like both of those players, but what makes you believe they are "core pieces".

"Core" isn't guys coming off the bench for the foreseeable future because you have undeniably better starting talent that you just paid.

I'm paying NAW $16m if it avoids having to pay AB $25m+ to be a backup wing defender.

Core pieces are guys in your top 8.
Tristan is our backup SF who can start if injuries occur.
AB I see eventually starting within 18 months. For now he’s our the first guard off the bench.

I disagree with your synopsis on "core players".

Core players are guys that are extremely unlikely to be moved that you build around as your foundation.

No chance is AB starting next season if they are actively looking for back court help now.

Black probably won't beat out Suggs or KCP if they're healthy.

They are built on Orlando’s asset. It started with the trade of Victor Oladipo and the draft pick that was Sabonis to OKC.

Yep. For Serge Ibaka who we then traded at the deadline to the Raptors won the championship 2 seasons later.

When exactly are we going to help ourselves win a championship like we help other teams?

That’s what it sounds like potentially.

Or maybe the Magic have talked to teams with cap space (of which there aren’t many) and they’re willing to take on a contract like Cole or Isaac for no return in exchange for a draft pick from the Magic.

Nets.

They will have issues reaching salary floor but need talent. And picks.

They have 8# pick, 19# pick, 26# pick and 27# pick.

If they get 16/25 they can package it to move up or just outright draft lot of young players.
