FVV plays no defense he was never on the Magic's radar.

3 years 128 million.. whoever supported signing that scrub should ban themselves.
40 mil a year for FVV. Sorry that's nuts.

That's what they're doing.. and that plan is going way better than expected. They aren't going to consolidate young players for vets to "win now" because they aren't ready to "win now". My suggestion is to enjoy the experience of watching young players actualizing their potential and become a group that learns how to win together.
The only trade I can see them making is moving Fultz or Harris. That kind of trade isn't going to set the world on fire but those two players clearly don't fit the time line. If by year 5 of the rebuild which is two more seasons they aren't contending then they'll reassess. But this group is going to get a chance to show what they're made of and it isn't going to be game to game. They'll get 5 years together.
Is there a single poster in this thread that wants to “consolidate young players for vets to win now”?
Most are suggesting some combination of loose parts (Fultz, Harris, Okeke, Nuggets pick, protected ORL pick) for a stop-gap PG or someone who can provide shooting and/or can initiate offense against a set defense.
Wanting a PG or a backcourt offensive threat isn’t only to win now IMO it also helps with the development of our core pieces (Paolo and Franz). There are going to be a lot of painful nights because of this backcourt.
It’s been mentioned but FVV would have been perfect for this team
Yeah there has been.
Where?

Contract is dicey for sure...but you're just wrong to suggest FVV isn't a good defender.
Contract is defensible as almost the whole team are on rookie deals and length is only 2 years guaranteed. That's good cap management...FO shouldn't care who gets the money- they've got a cap and they've got to build a team and try to make success sustainable...it's like people being butt hurt about Jeff Green making $15m in ORL...they had the space, they were below any threshold, it didn't matter on a short term deal....It's not a Gobert/KAT/Jaden McDaniels/Edwards situation. It's well thought out.

I was against it because it IS absurd.
However, who is Orlando spending that money on in the meantime? This isnt LA or NY where every offseason you are in contention for names in free agency. Looking back I kinda wish we did pull the trigger. Whats the worst that could happen? Resigning Fultz and nobodies that dont equate to winning would be worse.
If we are being realistic Orlando isnt signing some big name free agent for the next few years and will probably just resign Franz Paolo and Suggs when the time comes.

They have a ton of money they have to use to resign guys. Larger market teams can afford to resign youth and also sign grade A free agents. Teams like OKC and Orlando can't afford it.

That contract is terrible and I've watched him enough being a Knicks fan to know he can't defend a rock.

Meh.
The Magic came right back after a middling first quarter and held the lead for huge chunks of the 2nd and 3rd quarters. It was a 2 point game with 10:42 to go too.
I think blaming the coach is just an easy catch-all for disgruntled fans.
Sometimes guys just don't play very well, or the other team plays really well, and it's as simple as that.
The Nets made 7-10 threes in the 4th quarter, ya know?

FVV's third year is a team option. So it's actually just 2 year commitment. Big money, but who cares?
Two years also means had the Magic signed him that he'd have been coming off the books before Franz/Suggs extensions ever kicked in.

Our offense kind of feeds of our defense and when we start shooting 3s non stop it totally ruins the flow of the game even if we make it at decent level, our game should be based on attacking the basket, getting to the FT line, off ball movement. Hope we can get back to it in Chicago.

I agree...offense should be inside-out. 3's are best served after collapsing the defense and kicking out. Mediocre 3pt shooters can feast when they play with Luka, young Ben Simmons, Jokic, etc. Hopefully, Paolo can enter that echelon of gravity guys.
We're not going to find a Dame or Steph who steps over midcourt and launches...although Simons...

Honestly? Not as much as people think.
If there's some sort of CLEAR mismanagement with scheme, where a coach is asking a group of players who physically cannot or mentally cannot defend a certain style to keep defending a certain style and it keeps failing, that's on the coach.
If a coach keeps repeatedly calling set plays for guys who aren't capable of executing the play, or designing offensive schemes to get the wrong guy the ball in the wrong spot. That's on a coach.
But the season is really long. It's not realistic to expect A+ effort and A+ execution every single quarter of every single game. There's not only ebbs and flows within the season, but there's ebbs and flows within games too.
There's nothing Mosley can preach that will make the Magic turn the basketball over less. That's a personnel issue.
There's nothing Mosley can preach that will make bad shooters make more shots. That's a personnel issue.
Most problems for NBA teams stem from the Jimmys and Joes, not the X's and O's.

I don't understand the point though. To me that doesn't sound like prudent team building.
You clean house and acquire draft picks.
You hire a coach and identify a style of play and identity.
You draft guys that you think can embody that style of play.
You let the young coach and young players gain experience then in year 5 you reassess.
The only thing that was sketchy to me was drafting Paolo over Chet but clearly while they were scouting Paolo and interviewing him they believed he would buy into becoming the best defender he could be and that was the style of play they conveyed to him that they envisioned for the team. Turns out they were 100% right. Even though he didn't show it at Duke and because he has a very laid back demeanor the message got through to him because this year he's one of the best defenders at the 4. He's 2nd amongst all PF's in SPG and is amongst the league leaders in contesting 3's.

Ok man I think you have gotten your point across with the practice on Monday. We don’t know how intense it was. You can have a light practice that’s more than a walkthrough. This loss was not because we were tired it’s because we can’t break a zone by shooting and the live ball turnovers were nuts last night (mostly by Cole). Our wins this year have had a disturbing amount of reliance on Cole and/or Mo going nuts. When they had bad games it all fell apart. With our total disregard for shooting it means we have to play perfect from a turnover and defensive perspective that is a lot of pressure for a young team.
Something is going on with the flat performances in b2bs. They've been historically bad. So yes, I blame the coaches.
They just did the same thing in LA and lost 2 games. They had 2 days after the Portland game and opted to practice the day before the b2b.

You’re going off a sample size of 1 right now and that was a west coast rode trip. Let’s see if they look tired tonight. You may be right but I don’t mind the practice only if it was light. We just don’t know if it was a SVG practice where it’s arguably harder then a game or it was maybe one step above a walk through. We just don’t know. Last night nobody looked tired but the execution was dog ****. So maybe Mosley is trying to sneak any practice in. Paolo said they had a complete off day on his birthday too.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

Oh come on it’s Mosley fault Cole and Suggs just forgot how to hold onto the basketball last night? Also why the hell do we need to treat this like a playoff game? The ultimate goal for this team should be playoffs. Go blame the league for scheduling a back to back involving the tournament. Oh guess what we have another back to back next week with Tournament for Toronto and Denver. That’s pretty fair for us…
You all need to be patient with Mosley on offense. It’s not his forte and he lost his lead offensive assistant right before the year and we have this super young guy in that role now. It’s the age old blame the coach because it’s easy.
