Nobody is doubting Okeke can be a player. But why not trade back if they really wanted him? Are there really no players at 16 that could help in the back court? Isaac, Ag, Okeke, Vucevic, Bamba... looks like we’ve got the front court settled..

Btw who thought this was a good pick? The magic are also being trashed by people on the general board. Not many thought this was a good pick.

Acting like NAW aka "Courtney Lee" was going to be a franchise savior or something.

Chuma is probably not even playing this year, and we have a need for a backup PF. When he comes back, he probably won't be playing more than 20 minutes (and we have a need for a backup PF), so it doesn't mean we need to kick anybody off the team. We still have Fultz who we have traded for as our future PG and we don't know if we'll re-sign Ross yet or what will happen with Fournier or if he's traded.

So while it would have been GREAT to find a miracle scorer, if we didn't think they were there at that spot.. well.. don't settle for a guy you think has limited guard upside and try again in the next draft or in free agency or a trade.

So people are insufferable for wanting to take a guard instead of drafting another PF on a roster already loaded with FC players? Don't see it. Especially when a guy like NAW fits a need and was arguably the BPA. Chuma was mocking out in the second round. It just is mind boggling that we would take him here.

Tell me where Chuma fits next to Isaac/AG/Bamba. Is Isaac going to start at SG? I get saying the likelihood of us drafting a starting player at 16 was unlikely, but this draft had real potential starting level guard talent. I'd say it's understandable why someone would be upset after drafting him there.

The guy we draft at 16 is a backup. Drafting a pg at 16 because we need a starting pg THIS season is rediculous logic. We get our PG needs met in free agency.

I’m kind flabbergasted by this pick. Nothing against the player, the media’s speaking highly of him and so I’ll root him on, welcome to Orlando Mr. Okeke.

If he’s envisioned as a backup pf and insurance for our front court I’m fine with the pick. We needed that, but I really feel a wing scorer was our biggest problem. My thinking is hopefully WeHam has something up their sleeves to acquire that via trades. PG is still an issue long term also.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

I'll be happy if it means that Vuc will only be back on a very team-friendly contract, if at all.

Yes. Drafting for fit works if you're the Spurs or Warriors at the end of the first round.. for a team that may lose Ross, Birch, Vuc, and we don't know what trades we will make, it means that the player they think will have the highest upside will be drafted. We need shooters, Chuma can shoot. Is he the go to scorer we need? No, but acting like NAW or Little or whoever else people wanted are just as far away.

And why are we looking at #16 to start all of a sudden? If people don't think we should even start lottery picks here their first few seasons (Gordon, Mario, Bamba) throughout the years, why doesn't he fit as a solid backup PF for his first 1-2 years and then make the decision if we need to move any of BIG or even what happens with Vuc this year?

Shoots better than Herro, NAW, Langford, Keldon
Defends better than Herro, NAW, Langford, Keldon
Longer than Herro, NAW, Langford, Keldon

sooo I watched some highlights....I like this guy. a lot. he's a wing, not a big. adds versatility to our core. Schmitz said he could be the steal of the draft. Lotto talent....swing for the fence.

I wasn't thrilled with any of the wings, so this is easy to swallow.

Magic got laughed at on nBa TV. Said we “analysts” had him mid 2nd. Makes no sense for a team who make playoffs and need help to draft a guy who won’t even play on year 1.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

Exactly. Doesn’t fit the roster, hurt for the year, wasn’t projected near our pick. The holy trifecta.

Pretty bummed we won't see of FRP in summer league this year. Maybe we trade back in to grab KPjr or that dude from Purdue.

Return to Orlando Magic
