This is one of the quotes that gets tossed around easily along with "he has high BBIQ" only to fall short of the truth. He was a low assist/high turnover guy in college and he did not lead a winner (Arkansas was 9th in the SEC). So far everything has remained the same through summer league.

I want to like the guy, but he's showing me nothing new to get excited about. Herky jerky, out of control, wild shots... I'm not impressed. He seems to be delivering on defense though, so I can at least get pumped about that... that said, it wasn't a current worry before with Fultz and Suggs, sooo.... meh.

Black cant shoot/isn't a shooter. He doesn't even have a mid range game like what Fultz has at this stage of his career.

When I watch him he's so behind the 8 ball when it comes to his shot creation/iso ball. I don't think he'll ever be that type of player. He'll most likely be like Rajon Rondo/Jason Kidd/Andre Iguodala/Lonzo Ball/Bruce Brown type player where his all-around game versatility will make him really good.

All he has to do is is work on open 3 point shots in order to enhance himself and make himself more valuable on that end of the court.

Comparing him to Haliburton or Alexander (who had much more advanced offensive when they came to the league is a reach). Seriously he can't even break down defenders. How is he going to end up being like those guys? That's strange to me.

We'll just have to wait and see how much he improves. He's going to make a huge jump this season based on his age. His floaters and mid range looked better than Suggs when he came into the league, and he was 7 months older. I think Black has a nice touch.

If Black was born two weeks later, he would've been considered 19 the whole season.

Black is a stock I'm willing to over index in. He passes the eye test.

Feel like he's getting praise from everywhere except on this board  - especially people seeing him in person

Shooting can be his fatal flaw if you add nothing else to the game - but I think the ball control stuff will get better and he will be an okay shooter at best, which in a few years we may not need if we've surrounded these guys with the right players

Yeah. My thinking is that his defense is his floor, Bruce Brown level role player. His FTr is the tip of the iceberg as a scorer. His playmaking and IQ just pop as his potential running an offense. I genuinely think he's going to contribute from day one at a high level due to his defense. He reminds me of Jonathan Isaac in terms of his ability to control space and direct the defense.

Burnout?

Payton- ballhandler who can't shoot
Fultz -ballhandler who can't shoot
Suggs- bad ballhandler who struggles to shoot
Black-turnover prone and can't shoot

4 lottery picks ( 3 own +1 traded for ) over span of 10 years, same identical problems that seems to never fix itself.

As for AB in particular, 3 games in, and he made 2 jumpshots. One off the table three in game 1, and one mid range FT line jumper also in game 1. Everything else is either layup or miss.
I always liked Black in context of team where several shooters would be played off him. But i always thought he won't be drafted by us due bad fit for both parties. But here we are.

To me biggest question mark about his game isn't shooting ( you know shot isn't there, and you deal with it, for crying out loud, guy is guard and doesn't jump for jumpshots, you know he has no clue what he is doing ) it's very ugly assist to turnover rate. Why it happened in college? Will it be problem in nba? Suggs had bad assist to turnover rate at college and people were shielding him from critics by blaming Gonzaga system, when he arived in nba, he had worst handles for PG i've seen in my life. Early SL results point toward potential problem. He averages 4 turnovers. Some off loose pases, some of not being ready for faster players who strip him off ball on his cuts toward rim.

In general our SL team is a$$, i can't even read angry Philippian manifestos  #LetKaiPlay it's not like team could be any worst , at least kids will be happy and team will make some $$ off selling his Magic jersey.

But at the end of a day, nothing in SL matters, i just hope that once season stars, Black won't be there playing SF just to collect 12 mpg instad of DNP.

Just shoot me now the Black **** is going to be Fultz 2.0. Let’s just wait see where he is after his rookie season please.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

This SL coaching sucks. Hopefully with Mosley it will be different.

The shot is bad. It can be worked on. Maybe to at least a point he keeps the defense honest with spacing but If Black is not a lead guard who can average 10+ assists making everyone better, creating offense in a dynamic way, it was a botched pick.

i hope it can, but historically we havent been a team with coaching that has shown great improvement in their shooting.

Somethings you just can’t coach.

Thing with EP is he didn’t want to get better. He stated that in a interview. Basically saying this is who I am type of an attitude.

If Black can at least keep the spacing right great just be an elite passer/facilitator. If you’re not, you’re not a PG. Add the shooting you’re not even a starter so I’m hoping he is a better facilitator with good coaching and a better team. He’s made some good passes that says he might be but his handles aren’t exactly JKiddish either. I don’t even see Giddy consistently.

Crazy that almost nobody can grasp that this is Summer League. Not only is it his first few games, our team is definitely at the bottom talent wise. He is going to look SO MUCH BETTER with PB, Franz, Ingles, WCJ, etc..

I think most are grasping that.

Many here didn’t just start following basketball yesterday.

It’s what we got right now so we’re talking about it which is good.

I cant understand how he plays with that hair. I hated playing basketball with long hair, it affected my peripheral vision.

Maybe being in Florida he’ll braid it like Paolo does.

His ball-handling is a little suspect right now for a true PG. He has the size to where you could play him at the 2/3 but if he can't offer any shooting off-the-ball then it won't work well. His defense looks like it will be great and he has all the tools but he definitely looks like he has a lot of development to do on the offensive end.

Magic fans and praying their young guard will learn how to shoot, name a better combo

I will take 14 boards from any player any day.

Especially with a game-tying tip in at the buzzer.

Who would not want Dennis Rodman on their team?

How is it still this bad at 19? I don’t know what good or great form is but I know what AB is doing isn’t even in the same solar system.

Dennis Rodman in today’s NBA next to Franz and Paolo. I will pass.
