Agreed.

He could've gone after one guy (say a Jordan Farmer, Anthony Murrow, or Mike Miller), instead of two stiffs.

If he swings Arenas without giving up Carter, then he can still be in play for Melo with a Jameer+Carter package.

Before I didn't really like having Jameer and Arenas playing together, but I'm starting to think one will come off the bench. Especially if it's Shard who's traded. At least it eliminates Duhon from playing. Be interesting if we do make a separate trade.

Anyway don't know if Arenas is the best option, but I am really excited. I expect to wake up to a done deal.

Nelson and Gortat to Philly for Iggy and whoever

Arenas--Duhon--JWill
Vince--JJ
Iggy--Q/MP (one of them in a separate trade for new Dwight backup)
Bass--Ryan
Dwight--above mentioned backup

Pretty narly SL IMO

Don't know if we implode the team like this, but I would love it.

I'm excited about this simply because we needed a change (hopefully Rashard gets off the books for us).

Does anyone know if Gilbert is a playmaker type who can run the pick and roll and make good passes? I know he can create his own shots better than VC.

Doesn't even matter what kind of player he is right now. Big question is whether he can adapt and succeed in Van Gundy's system. No point in speculating until we see him vs the Hawks

The Japanese in your sig sounds really strange. Similes translate poorly across languages to begin with, so it might sound weird to Japanese regardless, but here's how you could improve it keeping most of your original language:

For this to work, you'd have to believe that i) Carter could start at SF, and that ii) Arenas and Carter could work together.

Nelson/Duhon/Williams
Arenas/Redick/Pietrus
Carter/Richardson
Bass/Anderson/Allen
Howard/Gortat/Orton

That's an interesting team, but it is not traditional.

Bulls fan here, but a big fan of Dwight Howard even though he continually destroys us, just speculating about the situation...

I do not think Nelson and Arenas would work well together, as one of them would have to be on the bench during key minutes in the playoffs when facing teams like the Celtics/Heat/Lakers as neither of them can guard Allen/Wade/Kobe. With that in mind I've been thinking of a couple trade scenarios...

First option is a swap of Vince for Arenas. Then that would be followed by Nelson being traded to the Bobcats for Stephen Jackson. Helps add perimeter scoring threats who are tough while not moving too many pieces, and gives Larry Brown a PG he can trust.

Next option is moving Lewis for Arenas. Then that would be followed by trading Carter and Nelson to the Bobcats for Jackson, Diaw, and maybe Matt Carroll (to make salaries match, could get more creative and involve more teams to eliminate Carroll though). Would give the Magic a retooled starting lineup while giving Larry Brown a PG and Vince would get tons of UNC love in Charlotte (jersey sales could be big).

Clearly each option of trades has the Magic taking on big salary, but I'm operating under the belief that your old absurdly rich owner is willing to spend whatever to win and at the same time convince Dwight to not test FA. I'm not saying I want it to happen as I think the Magic would routinely knock the Bulls out of the playoffs, but I think it would make for a good team around Dwight.

Thoughts? Within the realm of possibility?

From rotoworld.com

There are conflicting reports regarding the imminence of a potential trade sending Gilbert Arenas to the the Magic, but at least one has said the deal is done and that he will debut on Monday against the Hawks.
One other report says the deal is not "imminent," but all of the reports suggest that the sides are serious and by all appearances this trade is going down. Early reports suggested that Vince Carter and Marcin Gortat would be headed to the Wizards, but a recent report has Rashard Lewis possibly being the key piece with another trade involving the former pair in the works. Stay tuned. Dec. 18 - 2:05 am et

some more updates popping up on my rss feed

"Magic Ready to Trade"
League sources confirmed that Smith has talked with the Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, and Denver Nuggets. Orlando has had discussions with the Suns about a deal that would bring Hedo Turkoglu back to Florida. Lon Babby, the president of basketball operations in Phoenix, allegedly didn't make the trip to Dallas recently so that he could continue working the phones.

"Report: Rashard Lewis involved in trade talks"
Moving Lewis would be a huge move for Orlando, bigger than Vince Carter. It would mean taking their biggest anchor of a contract off their books, though they'd have to add on something equally laborious. The Wizards do have newly-extended Andray Blatche who seems to have worn out his welcome, alongside Arenas' massive contract. There's also the possibility of a third team getting involved with talks, with Portland, Charlotte, and Houston all heavy in trade discussions of the past week.

Would Philly take Nelson-Gortat for Iggy-Battie?

It works in trade checker, but I forget who their current starting C is.

Edit: NVM, they already have some good PGs. Wishful thinking

As Boston fan Im more afraid of the second deal if it exists.

Vince and Gortat for???

I could see Philly and Charlotte involved with Iguodala or Wallace.

The worst case scenario is something like Iguodala+Brand for Vince/gortat+maybe Q.rich.

arenas
nelson
iguodala
brand
howard
