otis needs to be fired whether or not dwight is staying. might as well fire him now and see if that might make dwight want to stay a little more.

Lakers won a lot of games because their twin tower lineup, they won a lot because of Kobe too, but Bynum/Gasol is a handful for any team to handle. If you get some slashers and scoring to surround them, we might not be that bad.
I dont disagree, they will be pretty good. But the goal is not the be pretty good. And they will never be more then pretty good. Especially with Miami, Chicago, Boston, and NY in the East. I say you fire Otis and try to keep Dwight. But IF you have to trade D12 then you do not do it for players who just make you pretty good. You rebuild.
So we'd have to go up against Chandler/Stoudamire, Boozer/Noah, West/KG, and ?/Bosh. We'd win all those matchups with Gasol/Bynum.
The difference is MELO, ROSE, PIERCE, DWADE/JAMES. You dont win with pretty good big guys and no superstar wing. The only time that has ever happened is Detroit.....2 things about that: The Lakers self destructed, and the Pistons wings were still better then the trash Orlando currently has

Rudolph says Dwight said this to Vander Weide:
"I have done everything you guys have asked me to do. I worked on my offense, my Free Throws, etc..Now it's time for you guys to do what you have to do on your end.".
He's making it sound like we could have a shot at Chris. Obviously a third team would be involved, but it is not out of the question. He sounds SO convinced, I have to believe that he knows something. I'm gonna ask him.

Based on Otis' comments, do you guys really believe the Magic are willing to go into rebuild mode for 5-7 years?
I don't, that's why I don't buy the draft picks angle. Yes, we will get some picks in this deal, but Otis is going after talent and he wants to field a playoff roster Day 1 at Amway.

I'd do EG/Minny pick for Dwight in a heartbeat.

I'm arguing in favor of quality...
I agree that the type of player we needed we didn't get. Not that we didn't try to get, but we failed to get. Otis thought Vince was that guy, as did many on this board and in the media. We were all wrong. But it's not over. The Magic still have a chance to do that, we'll see. I'm actually over Dwight, and am waiting for the next step. I say Pau and Gasol is the best we can get. We can't afford to rebuild. I say reload.
buh buh bingo!! Seriously, what team out there can give us a better option than this? The Bulls can't, the Nets can't. OKC comes closest, but doubt Presti pulls the trigger without assurance from Dwight to extend.
If Orlando is indeed to deal Dwight/Turk for Bynum/Gasol it gives us a few more options as to what to acquire. For Gasol, players & picks (what Houston has offered) and for Bynum, possibly an upgrade at PG (via Meer/Bynum package).
The Deng/Noah/Gibson package sets us in mediocrity while Bynum/Gasol deal is more of a risk but a higher reward.

Did i say keep them both? AM TALKING ABOUT VALUE! That's the best value you can get for Howard and not have him in the same conference. Some of you people are so short sighted it's freaking unbelievable. "Smart" people like you would send Dwight to team up with Boozer and Rose and form another god damn big three in your conference to go along with Miami, Boston and New York? USE YOUR BRAIN MAN! We CANNOT trade Dwight to Chicago. It makes no sense.
Its not any better pairing Dwight with Kobe Bryant. Last time I checked you'd still have to play the Lakers twice a year and in the finals IF Orlando ever made it back. They aren't beating Chicago in a 7 game series with D12 still in a Magic jersey.

No need to trade Dwight right now. Lets push for CP3 in a 3 way deal.

The Magic won't go into full rebuild mode. Otis will make the deal that keeps them competitive. I like building through the draft, but it's such a crapshoot. And unless Orlando gets the number one pick I don't really have much faith in their scouting.

So instead of completely rebuilding in a pretty sick draft with the next 2 years of FA shaping up to be pretty strong you would rather role out a line up of:
Meer
K Mart
J Rich
Scola
Bynum
Talk about mediocrity. That team is a 6/7 seed in the East at best, knocked out in the 1st round every year and capped out for the next 4.

Re: Official Speculation & Free Agency Thread (Part V) NEW S
When Dwight Howard asked to be traded, the Magic informed him that the team will not let pressure dictate their decisions.
"[S]ources close to the team said there will be no rush to judgment on Howard's fate, no matter how uncomfortable the relationship might get leading up to the March trade deadline," writes Sam Amick. "When Howard requested a trade earlier this week, the source said he was told the Magic wouldn't succumb to the mounting pressure and that Howard should be prepared to play for the Magic for the foreseeable future."
A complicating factor could be that Orlando is investigating possible tampering by the Nets, the team that is reportedly Howard's first choice.

Jarrod has been wrong so often that i don't know what to think anymore. I don't dislike the guy, but he's been way off. The Magic are trying to get Paul, but you can't turn water into wine. We're not the Lakers, or...Tim Tebow

The more i read and hear, i think you may be onto something.
On another note, did yall see the Deron Williams comments about Stern being a bully? He's mad about the CP3 trade not happening. Why would he care? In all probability, that would have taken his team out of the running for Dwight, so why wouldn't he be happy about it? It seems like Stern is ruining these players plans, and all these players are connected by their agency. This thing is getting more and more bizarre by the minute.

If we somehow landed Kirk Hinrich + Stephen Jackson for Redick, Ryno, Hedo & Harper I would be ecstatic.... They will fight like dogs in the playoffs and are on short contracts. #DontTradeDwight

Re: Official Speculation & Free Agency Thread (Part V) NEW S
Another angle to consider is that it is widely known that Stern will decide where CP3 goes. The last time Stern had this much power he made a lopsided trade for Gasol happen (according to most NBA fans). What is clear here is that there is a chance for a fluke CP3 trade to go down in this infinitely stranger NBA compared to 2007. A few of us reached last night and thought Orlando might be thrown a bone for the all-star game and new arena. Highly unlikely, but really, anything can happen.
Broussard is still claiming the Magic, as of last night, is still investigating tampering. The odds that Dwight did not meet with Nets ownership in Russia over the summer or in Miami on Thursday seem very slim. If the Nets had some awesome deal for Dwight then they might hold off on tampering, but in light of the Lopez and picks, I think the Magic will pursue this fully.

WOW! Too many of you are still trying to find out our lineup without Dwight. Magic need to focus on keeping Dwight, and adding CP3.

ya... i don't care how much you all have warmed up to Bynum and Gasol. We still have to at least try for CP3 again
