If you look at returns on trades with actual value sent out and returned.
Henny has done much worse than Otis ever did during his tenure here. TWICE Already!
Your hero Otis wanted to trade dwight for lopez and wallace which would put us in perpetual .500 land

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

If somebody told me in 2009 that BBD will be my favorite Magic player soon, I would have laughed in his face.

Relax dude. I HATE the trade just as much as you. Actually, I think I'm more pissed off with the combination of the trade and not clearing as much cap space as possible (which we didn't as so many think) all while resigning Jameer to a contract that I'm not sure anyone else would have given him (makes me question Henny's finances).
All of that said, I don't think this year's draft is anything special (and most basketball analyst agree) so I think the focus needs to be playing up our vets and unloading them for youth and picks. The only vet I would like to keep for leadership is BBD (I like JJ too but would be unwilling to give him a large 4 year deal that he'll be looking for). That guy gets what it's all about.
Charlotte is actually on a good plan finally. Yeah they sucked last year but the reward was a player that has more potential than our entire roster combined. They will continue to suck and they hope to continue to rack up young studs. That is the best plan for smaller market teams.
You claim to be a Pistons fan, so you should see how the last few years of sucking has helped them draft better players that will help them rebuild. Now, imagine if they sucked more 2 years ago and lucked into Irving. Monroe and Irving would have been a pretty damn good combo. I don't care what anyone says, you have to suck and luck out in the draft if you want to build a contender (unless you're in a big market where stars will collude and join forces).
Again, I agree, it was a top 5 bad trade of all time and the "talent" we received is crazy bad for a top 3 player but at least we are on track to suck enough to build the right way again: through the draft. Yeah, I don't get Aflallo or Harrington and I would have loved better young prospects but this is what we have and we have to move forward with the hope that Pat Williams can bring us the #1 pick yet again.
I'm right there with ya, but let it go BMP.

Ugh, I don't want BBD thinking he has the green light to shoot 20 times this year.

We're just talking pure cap space here:
Dwight was an expiring
JRich was making ~$6 mil for 3 more years
Duhon was not guaranteed after this year
So we basically got rid of $6 mil a year off the books before the incoming players. Harrington alone makes more than what was traded as far as future cap hits go (makes ~$7 mil over the next 3 years), and Afflalo is making ~$7.5 mil per over the next 4 years.
Now, I've been leading the rant on the fact that all the stars are locked up anyways and cap space does not matter now, so this is a moot point anyways, but the trade did not help our cap space as many proclaim. Add Jameer's rumored $8 mil a year deal and its very easy to conclude that Hennigan's plan is to tank for the next three years on purpose.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XLVII "Training Camp" E
Rookie watch
Nicholson and Kyle O'Quinn have made an impression on Vaughn, but the coaching staff also is schooling the two draft picks in some of the most basic elements of the NBA game. During a recent practice, coaches made sure they spoke to Nicholson and O'Quinn about the three-second rule and what's legal in the low post.
"You don't take those things for granted, whether it's timeouts at the end of the game, advancing the ball the last two minutes of the game," Vaughn said.
Nicholson and O'Quinn, like all rookies, face a learning curve.
During Wednesday's early evening scrimmage, Nicholson threw a pass to an open man — showing good vision in the process — but the pass was just a half-second too late and an opponent intercepted the ball. He'll need to make quicker decisions in the future.
"He'll learn that," Vaughn said. "He's a bright young man."
O'Quinn is developing a reputation as a gritty player, and he outran all his teammates on an end-of-practice sprint Wednesday morning, an impressive accomplishment for a 6-foot-10, 240-pound big man.

I like that vaughn is willing to consider playing redick and afflalo together, it would be a waste to have either one playing 15 mintues a game.

Wow, O'Quinn out-ran everyone? Either he's a stud in the making or our guys are out of shape and slow.
On a different note, season ticket holder 'pre-season survey' just came out. They're going to see some rough feedback, in my opinion.
