Has anyone done the numbers on what it would take Dallas to get both D-Will and Dwight? Looking at their payroll, they have about $54.3 mill on the books, but $13 mill of which is non-guaranteed. Which puts them at $41 mill on the books. If my math/layman's concept of how payrolls work is true, I assume that's good enough only to sign one max player.

D-Will saying he wants Dallas completely changes the dynamic. It could be an interesting decision ahead for the Nets as much as it is for us coming in the next few weeks.

No they haven't... And next year they have $42 million guaranteed on the books, if they don't pick up Lamar and Wright, it's only $33,057,384... they use the amnesty on Marion, it's $24,411,020..... they could definitely sign both.

We are ****. I just don't see Dwight passing on the opportunity to go to Dallas with Dwill and Dirk. (Unless we get Monta and SJax maybe.)

dirk: $20mil
marion: $8.4
haywood: $8.3
Beaubois: $2.2
jones: $1.2

then you have unguranteed

odom: $8.2, still counts $2.4 towards the cap
carter: $3mil, $1mil or so counts
wright: $999, nothing
williams: $919, nothing

Your all thug team will neva happen

LOL you know me too well my friend.

PS. Just wondering, would U make that trade?

Cousins is a stud, but doesn't fit with Dwight imo, and isn't a big enough upgrade over Anderson to warrant the mismatch.

Actually the Mavs would start off in the off-season w/ 54,323,089 on the books. Then if they decide to not keep Odom, VC, Wright, and Sean Williams that'll put them around 41,156,385. Then amnestying Marion would give them 32,760,021. I'm not sure if that puts them in the position to give max deals to both Dwight and Deron, but they can always take a pay cut. So even if Deron runs to Dallas, the Magic will still have a lot of work to get Dwight to commit to the team and the franchise.

J-Rich needs to kick rocks.....Too inconsistent and virtually brings nothing to the table that Redick can't emulate

I think we need to keep our eye on Dallas and whether they can move Marion here between March 1st and 15th. They've got 32 mil in cap holds between Terry and Kidd, plus 20 mil due to Dirk next year. They're going to need to make a move or two, possibly Ricky and Marion, plus amnesty Haywood, in order to get 3 there. Of course, Dwight and Deron could opt for less money and solve the problem that way.

BTW, what a fantastic rumor filled start to thread 12.

thats more likely in the offseason when teams have contracts that expired and are looking to sign guys because the cba mandates it

I thought the CBA requires a team's total payroll to be at 85% of the cap at the end of the season. They can basically run at anything lower than that all year long as long as they're at 85% when the season ends. Indiana is the only team there now. As far as this coming offseason, I doubt teams will be looking to acquire salary to meet the cap restriction 10 months before it applies to them. They'd probably rather have the flexibility that waiting it out gives them.

From listening to the radio show with kyler and kennedy they said the only way for dallas to get both would be for one to be traded there this year. They said is derron goes in FA the would have to move marion, possibly lamar and haywood i think. They said it would be very hard if not impossible to get both in FA without some major moves before the deadline.

They both felt if the source who said derron to dallas was a done deal is right than that seriously limis dwights options and makes him staying in orlando much more probable. They said that possibly the sjax and gil comments about them seeing him staying would make sense.

The magic insider guy they had (i never heard of him) said there was a direct quote of dwight from this weekend saying "there is a big possiblity i stay in orlando" or wording close to that.

Things sound very 50-50 right npw to me which is way better than i though we were at a few days ago.

If Dallas is able to trade Marion for an expiring it is over for us. Dwight and Deron will be with the Mavs next year. I do feel bad for NJ though, not only do they lose Deron they also gave up Harris, Favors and picks.

Dwight did say that according to Slam magazine:

Dwight Howard still wants the Orlando Magic to trade him, but claims that there’s a “big possibility” of him staying with the team. Huh?! Florida Today has the confusing quotes: “Dwight Howard craves a championship and wants it ‘while I’m young and still have a lot of my abilities. I don’t want to wait until I’m old.’ […] Averaging 20.3 points and a career-high 15.4 rebounds entering Thursday night’s game at the Atlanta Hawks, Howard is highly desired. ‘There’s only one person in control of that,’ Howard said, ‘and that’s the man upstairs.’ Make no mistake, his trade request still stands, and the Mavs, Nets and Lakers still have permission to talk to his agent. But asked if there’s a future for him with the Magic, who had gotten back on track and entered the All-Star break as the Eastern Conference’s third-best team, Howard said, ‘It’s a big possibility. … It’s a big possibility.’”

Is there anyone even out there who would trade and expiring for Marion? I agree with you btw.
