Agreed. Nelson got a pretty low offer compared to what all of these other PGs are getting and he accepted it. He was our only option really and it doesn't hurt us going forward cap wise.

Looking at it Dwight Howard really is running out of options. He can no longer sign outright with the Nets. He doesn't want to go to the Lakers and Houston. Maybe he could sign with Dallas who seem to be sitting things up for Howard and Chris Paul. Atlanta has a lot of cap space and could be an options for Dwight to go back home but Dwight really have never express interest in playing with Atlanta.

So the more I think about this the more I start to think that Dwight will stay with Orlando. Now is that the best move for Dwight and the Magic? I think with the lack of assets the Magic have now much can the improve without being able to add better talent around Dwight?

It a tough situations to be in if your the GM. That is why I think it best to wait it out until the final hours (meaning trade-deadline) to see how the market shapes out because right now Dwight Howard can not say he is going to Brooklyn. So a number of teams can take a chance and trading for him or Orlando can keep him and he would be pretty much force to re-sign with the Magic

What did you expect him have accomplished at this point into his 2 week tenure?

Fantasy. We could have gotten a PG and not hampered our cap space by 6 million dollars.

Who would that have been?

Wait, I know. We should have signed Nash. He would have taken a one year plus team option for the second year from us just for the chance to play with Dwight. Probably for less money than Jameer. If only we had made this offer right way, we could have done a sign and trade with PHX for Duhon and JRich and we'd have been all set. pHX would without question have gifted us Nash despite other offers since Otis was buds on the deal two years ago, so they owe us one.

I can only guess that's what you're thinking, right?

I never once said that Jameer doesn't deserve 6 million, or that we could have gotten someone better.

Ignorance is strong this morning.

I don't like this move at all, if we decide to keep Howard their relation is not the best, it could end up in trouble. If we move Howard we just committed money to another mediocre role player.

Uggg.. Does it bother anyone else a little that Steve sold out to the Lakers?

Other than the fact that he is closer to his kids; I just felt this totally goes against what he seemed to stand for.

(I put this in the other thread too, but I figured I might get a response faster in this one.)

According to Nelson, he is still close as ever with Howard.

If you are referring to me, I simply said that wasn't that impressed with the moves that he HAS made. Why can't people just look at things objectively without showing bias. I am rooting for Rob as much as anyone but i just don't like what he has done so far.

I don't blame Nash for wanting to compete for a title. He did it the right way though. He didn't go to the papers. He didn't demand a trade. He didn't talk to the media. He just let the process play itself out and got to a team that he can contend with.

Howard could learn a lot from this guy.

Idunkonyou2 wrote:For those not understanding the cap situation we are in for the summer of 2013:

Nelson - 6M
Davis - 6M
JRich - 6M
Hedo - 12M (will be waived if not traded so he will only count 6M towards the cap)
Duhon - 4M (will be waived if not traded so he will only count 1.5M towards the cap)
QRich - 3M (will probably take his player out)
Nicholson - 1M
Quinn - 1M

Overall - 28M cap for 2013

So that leaves us 32 million in cap space for 2013 even if we don't rid ourselves of Duhon, JRich and Hedo, which will be easier to do at the trade deadline or before the 2013 draft. If we can do that, we save ourselves around 14 million in cap space, moving that 28 million number down to 14 million, giving us 46 million in cap space. That means we could sign 3 max players if we want and it so happens 2013 is going to be a big year for FAs (Ellis, Iggy, Smith, Howard, Bynum, Paul, etc).

Again knowing this, it baffles my mind why Howard wants to just up and leave. He could be playing with Paul/Iggy or Ellis/Iggy so on and so forth in 2013-2014 if he waits.

If these projections are accurate we are good. Also, Nelson's contract is very tradable if needed.
Howards wish was to play with Deron in Brk. Now that's over and his options and attitude will change. So let's be patient and see.

So, can the Lakers acquire draft picks? Can the Nets move their scrubs around to 3 or 4 teams and give us something decent?

Howard has wanted to play with a better Point Guard, Nelson probably feels disrespected. Didn't Howard and Nelson had to be separated by their teammates?

So no "no trade clause" in the contract?

As in 10 assists a game? Now you're just taking the defending of Nelson too far. You're basically calling him an elite PG. He is and will always be a 5-6 assists a game type of PG at best. SVG has nothing to do with it. He could score 18 on a losing team.

edit: i'm not saying Nelson's signing was bad. There aren't too many options out there right now and we certainly can't have Duhon playing PG. 3 years is a good length and we're not overpaying him. Still, he is clearly not as good as you think he is.

I really dont know what you guys expect fro Rob. Obviously his number one priority is settling the Dwight issue. No other moves can be made until then. He first has to know which direction we are headed before making moves to please you guys. Situations that wont effect Dwight issue is Jameer's resigning, Ryan hopefully a S&T. Everything else has to wait.

Why would they give Jameer Nelson a No Trade Clause? Only Dirk and Kobe have one.
