all we'd have to do is cut Turk so he's only on the $6M that's guaranteed, find a taker for JRich for an expiring this season, and waive JJ, and we'll have enough to offer a max deal next year.
Dwight/O'Quinn
BBD/Nicholson
[insert rookie/FA]
Harden/Liggins
Jameer
that puts us right back on track to challenge Miami, IMO.
Harden to me is Joe Johnson again. a player that will get max money, but isnt the type of player to be a #1 option.
and sorry, but that team above does not challenge Miami.
THAT team doesn't, but as i said, it puts us right back on track. a Howard/Harden core would be one of the best duos in the league. Harden may well be Joe Johnson 2.0, but he also might be a much better closer than he's had the chance to demonstrate since he's sharing a ball with Westbrook and Durant. i'd take that chance on him. if not, we still have Nelson and he still has a strong history of being a closer.
Dwight Howard is still the best weapon against Miami. it takes a lot of effort for them to defend him, he opens up options for all our other pieces, and he does a great job of disrupting their offense, particularly LBJ and Wade getting easy buckets in the post.
with Henny onboard, i have no doubt that we could find a future SF through the draft, but in the short term, having expendable options like BBD/Ayon might actually help us find that right SF to complete the lineup. imagine if Iggy opts out of his deal next summer and looks to sign somewhere for nothing. you think Philly might consider a s&t that sends BBD + filler back to them then?
Howard/O'Quinn
Nicholson/Ayon
Iggy
Harden
Nelson
THAT is a team to challenge Miami.
