Karl, Malone, Skiles is my order. I like Karl because 1) track record (1100+ wins) 2) a good balance between macro and micro managing 3) a system that would work with our young guys (focusing on running, assisting and taking good shots)

Skiles would certainly instill a defensive effort, but I worry he's too old school for our under 22 crowd and will run them off to greener pastures.

Vaughn might have the worst winning percentage in club history, but it's not like he had much talent. That doesn't excuse our current 10-game losing streak and overall regression from the beginning of the year, though.

But just saying, give him Shaq/Penny/Grant/Anderson/Scott, and his record is right up there with Brian Hill's.

Do you follow the NBA or just the magic? Each fan base that had to endure his coaching tenure hates him. Players never speak fondly of him either. Being a hardass isn't a good thing if you can't control it. From what we've seen, he can't control his "fire".

I don't give a rats ass what other fan bases think. What does that have anything to do with me following the NBA? Like him or not his teams have played pretty well. Maybe we need to take a look at the soft players instead of the coach if that's the case,.

Well yeah, soft players can follow JV out the door. Still don't like Skiles though. I see him as a guy that will get us to the playoffs soon but can't keep his team's attention long enough to win it all.

I get what you're saying but if that's the case then we need to evaluate our players toughness. This is why you wont see guys like Kobe, Jordan, or Miller in this generation because they're all softies.

For arguments sake... Why not Patrick Ewing? He's got the big guy stigma but at least he's not a retread like skiles who has failed even with good players.

If true, we're probably looking at guys like skiles and karl more so than malone or jackson.

I feel bad for the guy because he is super nice but the fact is that he is an incompetent coach and you cant have that as your coach.

Concern noted. I don't think he's a championship caliber coach either but he has a proven track record of doing well with young teams. Hopefully hes evolved. Ideally you get Karl in here. But Like Kennedy stated, I didn't want them to hire another rookie coach if the expectation was to advance to the PO's and that's how I see Malone. I'd still be happy with him because of his potential but that word scares me.

EDIT: Actually Kennedy said Malone is being considered. I guess they don't care about hiring rookie coaches.

I don't mind the idea of Skiles - he's not going to stand on the sideline with a slightly befuddled look on his face while we blow a lead, he's going to be demanding effort for the full 48 minutes of every game, and he's actually going to preach defense instead of paying lipservice to it. We know that there's a decent amount of raw talent on our team, and we know there's a fair few players who have a lot of potential defensively, so have a coach who is a bit of a taskmaster may be what we need to get them focused and organized.

Basically, we've had a coach who didn't (seemingly) push them too hard and talked of "patting bellies" - maybe now we need a guy who is going to get on their cases and bark at them a bit.

Like I said before something is wrong with Karl, he should have been hired by now by somebody. I like him over Skiles and Malone and definitely Jackson

Finally! Why this wasn't done earlier if the plan was to have Borrego interim anyway, I don't know but what's done is done.

In respect of the next hire. I see someone like Skiles as the Brian Hill to a future SVG in the Magic coaching cycle. Leading us to a first round exit in the playoffs whilst leaving behind a well-drilled, organised team for the next guy. Stan specifically commented on how Brian had left a well-organised for him back in 2007.

Who the next SVG is remains to be seen.

In respect of Vaughn: the firing of the entirety of his staff (sans Borrego) says everything. Some player development, limited motivation, zero Xs and Os.

Skiles would be great. If these players of ours truly want to win then they will accept his intensity as a coach.

It's not that they are soft per say, it's that they are used to getting their way. That's what you get with pampered millionaires. If you have a Karl come in and say "'I've got 1100 wins, do this and you'll be successful" it lends itself better than "I've taken a couple teams to the playoffs before getting run out of 3 different teams, do what I say!" That being said, Karl may have no interest in the job, so it's a moot point.

His age may be a concern. You would think that we're looking for a guy that can push our young talent for at least 5 years, if not more.

That said, one tweet doesn't mean Karl isn't being considered.
