This is one of those stats I file away in case the Magic revert to the mean and we need a good explanation. These are the elements I see to beat this team:
- Play hard in the first half, you lazy bums
- Defensive rebounding
- Limit turnovers, play smart on offense
- Get back in transition to setup the defense
Note how all of those factors are typically a given in the playoffs, so our team still has a long way to go. The only question is whether teams figure us out soon in the regular season.
It's a good point. Disciplined and schemed teams are going to be ready. At the same time, teams don't really scheme during the season, i am sure they will put it in the notes/meetings,like Orlando likes turn you over and run. Not sure there is much you can do to limit turnovers on short turn arounds.
All these turnovers, we are 2nd in NBA in steals behind Clippers btw, are leading to fast breaks where efficiency goes way up, and is probably offsetting some of the early season shooting woes.
So yah, while teams may figure us out a little, and we may regress a bit in offense off of turnovers...we should also see some regression on the other end and our shooting...as in it has to get better...cough...I hope
One other thing you pointed out about opponents defensive rebounding, we are ranked 8th in offensive rebounds. One really interesting rebounding stats, I am not sure i really understand The Magic rank 22nd in defensive rebounds. We rank 2nd in opponents 2nd chance points...you would think those would be correlated, like if you arent getting defensive rebounds you are giving up offensive rebounds which leads to 2nd chance points. It's probably a function of limiting possessions and attempts in general, but probably also these guys recovering and rotating better than other teams.
