"We are going to make playin". No s*** . You need to be 5th worst, among 15 to make it. Among 5 who won't make it,4 teams are blatantly tanking. Nets would too, if they had any reasons , instad they just suck.

Also "two young exiting stars". You sure nobody else has it nowdays?

Even bottom feeders like Hornets have two bright stars, Spurs have probably most talented young player of a decade, OKC's rookie might be first DPOY in history, Memphis sucks yet probably next year will have -two allstars as soon as Morant return.

Wolves best player is 22 years old and he is leading them in standings.

So you aren't as special as you think.

You have to improve at some point, more you wait, harder it will be. Magic only have one year to splash deals - end of this season and next season. After that Franz's future max contract will eat up 25% of salary. And year after Paolo's max is comming to your books.
And you probably want to resign Suggs after this year as well.

All those assets won't last forever.

Case and point- look who was "most exiting young team" in 2021 and where they are now. Hawks. You know, team that made it to ECF led by 22 and 23 years old. Now they are market sellers.

Yeah. The first 4 years were appeasing ownership by doing absolutely nothing of consequence. They deserve the criticism for that decision.

Tbh that sienfield subervtion of expetations and meta humor really worked so damn well. Doesn't work when you run actual basketball team where everybody around you gets better

There are not many PGs in the league that are better fits for the Magic than Dejounte Murray... and he was actually available. For us to not come away with him is sickening and unacceptable. I WANT WELTMAN FIRED!

You are making the assumption that Atlanta wanted to trade with that magic. Any trade with the magic would make the Hawks worse unless a third team was involved. I really don’t think there was incentive for the Hawks to do a deal with magic. They were better off keeping Murray.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Yeah.. a direct trade between division rivals, especially since we are competing for the same spot, is kinda iffy

I get all the reasons why not. I get all the excuses. I get all the justifications. I get all the calls for patience.

I get it.

What I just don't get is the consistent pattern of complete inaction. People are defending Weltman like he's pursuing a strategy by doing this. Hes not. Hes just choosing not to do 60% of his job.

For every excuse, theres a team out there who made a mockery of that excuse in the last 12 months by getting in a good player to.cover roster deficiencies. For every trade horror story there are literally dozens of decent or downright brilliant successes. For every screwup, there's a way out that doesn't kill the franchise (unless youre the Pistons, in which case - YELP)

Inaction in life pr business is one of the easiest things to rationalise away. And yet its one of the most debilitating afflictions a business or leader can have.

Weltman is addicted to inaction. I personally believe hes behaving disgracefully in his role.

We have 3 expiring contracts that we no longer can use as offers for trade. We have too many point guards that can’t shoot and/or run point. We have to many players in the bigs position that need minutes. We have guys on the bench that is playing behind expiring contracts and now have no way to get minutes. We can’t shoot, bottom in the league in 3 point %. and we are never heathy. But during the trade deadline we do nothing. I’m at a loss for words.

The problem with Weltman is that he doesn't want to lose trades. However, if you never take risks you will always lose in his position.

We have now seen how many assets under Weltman go completely stale and lose all value? Even if he made minor decisions with these role players he would see some kind of return. It's just too easy to keep re-upping on players that have proven nothing while you bank on potential that doesn't exist.

And he doesnt learn. He stubbornly sticks to his do-nothing principles, despite his past.actions showing up his folly.

Drafting Paolo and Franz doesnt excuse him in the slightest. So, hes was good at one part of his job, which was not screwing up the massive handouts the NBA gave the Magic.

Hes also picked up a couple of decent reclamation projects, in Moe and Goga. But in all other facets hes been a failure. Being good at a bit of your job but bad at the rest normally would get you fired.
