Inherent problem? I thought it was the lack of 3pt threat/makes and as a result floor spacing that was our biggest threat?

A champion starting 3&D guard should answer that no?

I'd say the bigger issue was lack of playmaking in our backcourt and we most needed a real PG to take some of the burden off of Paolo and Franz. I'd put 3pt shooting as a significant issue but only the second biggest and one that would be partly fixed by solving the first problem. KCP doesn't do anything to fix that.

Yes we lack playmaking but the 3pt shooting was more glaring during games.

They were both issues but playmaking was a massive issue especially in the playoffs

Especially.... When your second best player disappears. There is still a chance that the answers are on the team.... But the improvement in shooting and defense alone will make a huge difference.

That stat is a pretty big deal. Defensive identity expanded. Hopefully, this could give Suggs a little mor energy to expand on offense.

May as well sign Derrick Jones Jr.

Think we still want PB/Franz handle that responsibility.

I definitely think the acquisition of KCP is an improvement but I think it’s more marginal than significant. And after tonight I do believe that the organization thinks the situation to the PG position is already on the team with the growth of Black or Suggs. I disagree but I am willing to see if that is the case.

Yeah, I think that will be the case until Black finds himself in a couple of seasons.

As someone who watched a good amount of KCP when he was on the Wizards in an expanded offensively role, I can give an interesting insight

He's great on C&S, slightly above average cutter/straight line driver

His weakness, is when he puts the ball on the court and tries to create his own shot, which he'd fall in love with at times which hurt the Wiz

We shouldnt be looking for him to not be a guy scoring 15+, but more like 10-11 ppg & guard the best guard on the opposing team so we can see more of Suggs development on the offensive side of the ball

KCP is 31 on a very decent starter contract now, proven player which makes him a good investment and great value for a potential trade if needed.

I really, really like this move.

Beyond the stats, this is a guy who elevated his team’s entire level of play on both the defensive and offensive side of the ball. That was one of this front office’s main things to find this offseason (as they said a ton in the Da Silva intro presser). He is also 3 years younger than the Klays and PGs of the world, which is not insignificant when you are talking 3-4 year deals.

The guys who will benefit the most from this acquisition are Suggs, Franz and Paolo. All needed someone who could spread the floor and keep teams honest, and both needed an extra hand on defense so they weren’t pushing so hard on that side of the floor.

This isn’t splashy in that KCP’s numbers don’t leap off the page, but it’s the kind of move that elevates an entire roster around it up a level.

I assume we aren’t done yet, but so far this is as perfect a fit for this roster as we were going to find without a trade.

KCP is one of the best role players in the league. Spacing, 3pt shooting, big game experience, defense. Those are very much welcome in a young team and Paolo/Franz need the space to playmaker.

I remember embedding YouTube videos on here being much easier on mobile but haven't had luck otherwise I would've posted the full offensive/defensive highlights KCP provided just last season.

KCP was the least interesting role player for me. He solves non of our problems. Still worst PG rotation in the league, no Guard playmaking, rim pressure from the guard spot, self creation from the guard spot, high volume 3 point shooting, rim protection. I wait til the the end of the Free agency but so far we are still a bottom 10 offense without heavy unrealistic efficiency improvement by Paolo and still super easy to defend. We have no Guard who is able to get to the rim against a half court defense & I don't see the upgrade in spacing either. He takes 4 threes per game like Harris. No playoff team gonna defend Paolo or Franz now 1 on 1 because KCP shoots 4 threes instead of Harris shooting 4 threes.
KCP slightly improves the things we are good at but doesn't improve any of our glaring weaknesses.

Prefer a Jones & IHart combo. They both address needs. Signing one of the other 2 would be OK but the 1st combination solves more needs on this team.

Eh, I'm glad i woke up to the Magic at least doing something meaningful, but I'm not sure how to feel about this. The price seems about right, though.

To me, KCP plays the same position as Suggs; what the hell are we thinking of doing with the point guard spot? I thought Paolo indicated that he didn't want to effectively play the point on offense. Also you have to wonder what KCP looks like without Jokic. Like, it's nice that we add shooting, but we need ball handling and passing, too.

Anyway, welcome to Orlando, KCP. I wonder what else our front office is cooking up, because surely this can't be it.

I keep trying to like the signing, but find myself falling short. Just gonna take the wait and see approach.

But in 10 of 12 playoff games this year, he only made 2 or less 3 pointers a game. 7 of those were 1 or 0 made. Is that really considered a "3" and D guy?
