There is no scenario where Giannis is moved for anyone on Orlando that isnt Paolo or Franz + multiple picks.
Coincidentally, acquiring him changes nothing offensively for The Magic. They would operate the same way with an older, more efficient, player.
Also, the whole thing about Giannis wouldnt even want to be here as opposed to many other directions he could choose.
He will probably wind up in Houston or San Antonio. Those teams have the assets and team to build around him.

If a potential Giannis trade can elevate this Magic team to contention and further in the playoffs, why not?
But there are several things to consider: Paolo is only 22 years old and Franz 23. And Giannis is 30 years old. An after Giannis trade, how long of a championship window should we have during Giannis' prime? That is hypothetical of course.
But we have had back to back first round exit here. And we are far from the level of Boston and Cleveland. We definitely need to upgrade our roster. Giannis trade potentially could be that opportunity.
I do not know what to give up here and it is going to be a lot. But Milwaukee Bucks franchise will be smart to start the rebuild with a Giannis blockbuster trade. And they have no choice
Orlando has all the assets. It will be interesting to see

Not really. They can also be outbid by teams that are further along.

Re: Official 2025 Offseason Thread
The question is always simple this offseason: Is this roster sustainable?
What do I mean by that?
Paolo's Max + Franz + Suggs are going to eat up most of the salary cap. Plus we retain JI, AB and Wendell. We will be luxury tax and 2nd Apron team. The rookie contracts have spoiled the entire fan base. Now is the sour grape. Can we figure out the finances and we won't have any flexibility plus the "Continuity" Era is sure to come to an end. Orlando has to get out of the comfort zone and start to make moves to keep most of the roster alone.
I know Jeff Weltman relies on simple player development and continuity plus build this franchise in a safe way. BTW Orlando still has a lot of its draft capitals plus great young talent. But the question is always going to be is this core good enough to beat Boston and Cleveland in the East.
The FO has some uncomfortable decisions to make this summer. We will see...

Re: Official 2025 Offseason Thread
"Going forward, Banchero and Wagner's brilliance can no longer be viewed as just a bonus. They've set a standard for how they can play – one that could take advantage of an otherwise top-heavy Eastern Conference.
Not attempting to capitalize would be falling short of due diligence.
That puts the pressure on the Orlando front office, led by president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman and general manager Anthony Parker, to capitalize on the historic tandem, and fast. Orlando's cap situation is on an expensive trajectory, and the flexibility the Magic have with roster construction will soon wilt away.
Such a process will require intense evaluations and tough decisions to be made. If it is not the most potentially consequential summer in franchise history, it certainly is in this core's tenure."

My assessment is more common on the general board amongst those less emotionally attached to the team. On here opinions have been radicalized!thelead wrote:MartinsIzAfraud wrote:Paolo: “I’m not taking any moral victories from this series. The goal is to win.”

absolutely wild. we have shooting issues for sure but to me, that tells me that they also don't believe in their shots. The shooting was soooo bad that it became a mental block too. Passing up open shots and aiming shots instead of just letting it fly and trusting the muscle memory.

None of our opinions really matter. Paolo's opinion absolutely does.

How do you interpret his opinion exactly such that you think it's a rebuttal of my views?

He doesn't seem too happy and already expressed what he wanted last summer. The FO ignored him so I'm very interested to hear what he says tomorrow and over the next few weeks.
This is what he said last May... it's painful to read today after getting bounced in 5 games:
"“[The front office] wants two-way guys who add to what we already have in terms of our defensive identity, length and versatility. Shooting is a big part of what we need to improve on, whether we go and get somebody or try to develop guys. I don’t know which way they’re going to approach that. And having a guy who can set the table and be reliable. We have a lot of talented guys who can make shots and make plays: me, Franz [Wagner] and Jalen Suggs. I would rather be more of an offensive hub than the point guard, if that makes sense.”"
Once you lose Paolo's buy-in due to negligence, this all quickly falls apart.

Re: Official 2025 Offseason Thread
I think the ideal build is:
1. a playmaking guard with reliable shooting
2. a high volume, efficient three-point shooter who can also defend
3. Franz
4. Paolo
5. Like WCJ but with more rim protection or offensive versatility
The bench should consist of players that can maintain our defensive identity and provide scoring punch, including reliable shooters and playmakers.
Thinking through guards for the starting roles:
KCP is neither 1 or 2
Suggs is not 1, might be 2
AB is developing into 1 or 2, probably leaning towards 1 over 2
Cole is neither 1 or 2
CoJo is neither 1 or 2
Jett is neither 1 or 2
Thinking through bigs for the starting role:
Goga brings higher IQ, rim protection, and playmaking
JI brings higher IQ and defensive versatility
Moritz brings higher IQ and offensive versatility
WCJ is the jack of all trades, master of none
Bench guards:
AB is developing playmaking and shooting, already great defensively
Cole doesn't bring defense, playmaking, or shooting
Jett brings only shooting, hypothetically
CoJo brings nothing
Bench forwards:
JI is defense only as a forward, brings zero shooting or playmaking
TDS is well rounded, the WCJ of our forward crop but with better IQ
Houstan brings IQ and spot-up shooting, no playmaking or defense
Bench bigs:
Moritz brings offensive versatility and IQ, no rim protection
Goga brings rim protection and IQ, with offensive rebounding and rim protection proving good offense
