On the bright side, Bane is a great player. I love his game. He fits right in as a defender. He’s young and under contract til he’s 29. And I think we’re contenders now in a soft East. I love adding Bane to our core.

On the other hand, 4 first round picks and a swap is a terrifying mortgage on the future. And I think this team still needs a PG. The price is steep but probably because we have a lot of deadweight money that no one wants and we’re having to overpay with draft picks.

But this team will be super fun to watch next year.

That is type of haul you are proposing to get prime Durant, Lebron, Giannis, not fringe all star player that really isn't fixing some issues you already have on roster.

The Suns swap with the Wizards is top 8 protected. The Suns swap with the Magic is unprotected.

and a pick in 2029. and those picks given up would have been non-lottery picks anyways. East is so weak, we would be making the playoffs.
so we have 1st in 2025, 2027, 2029. And there is almost always a late 1st available for sale by some team.

Wish we had a bit more playmaking, but I'll hold off til i see the on court product. Bane avg'd 5+ apg for past 3 years.

His playmaking goes away in playoffs as Memphis never had offensive rating in playoffs ( with him as lead guy pretty much every season, split duty with Morant) - better than 5th worst, including the worst OFF rating this year.

4 first round picks with pretty much no protection, including Suns pick that can turn into very juicy one is still such an overpay for player that isn't clean cut superstar.

LIke, that trade frame was same as for Kevin Durant trade to Nets, when Durant was top 3 player.

We do it for guy who isn't even top 20.

As i said, this is panic trade made by person who can smell smoke as his as* is getting hotter on that hot chair, being in line to be fired.


Magic are now turning into top heavy team, with no bench and without any ability to add young , cheap talent other than second round picks ( imagine if somebody didn't treat them as picket money for owners... for 8 years... hm...)
Magic are now also in position to be in luxury, probably in second apron.

Without any pick to trade, to lower salary Magic will be in position to do their "Middelton for Kuzma and drafted player" sooner or later, because you can't keep second apron bill for longer than year without getting screwed by league.

Like, Magic salary cap in 2026-27 will be $190M for 6 players ( potentially more if Banchero, Franz, Suggs or Bane get their 5% bonus).

This means one of two things, Suggs is being traded or the FO genuinely thinks Suggs is the PGOTF (lol).

This is the fascinating part to me.

Do they envision Suggs as the starting PG or is he on the block?

I think trading him is almost inevitable at this point, however likely not this offseason.

No youre wrong, youre not getting giannis for that package, this is the type of package that gets you Mikal Bridges (actually giving up less than the knicks did for bridges)

but objectively, is it really that much of a mortgage? all our picks for the future will be non-lottery picks even before this trade. we still have a pick this year and in odd years. You can also usually find a seller for a late 1st round pick in most drafts. And with the team built, we might even be able to pick up some good ring chasers on decent deals. Its a gamble yes, but look at what the Knicks, Indiana did? This team should compete for a top-4 spot in the East next year. will be interesting to see if they draft a PG at 25 and if other moves are made. Is the MLE still available?

Bane averages 2,5 apg for career in playoffs. Sure, in this awkward, no pick&roll system for Grizzlies he piled up nice APG count, but that gimmick of him "playmaking" never worked in playoffs.

He isn't playmaker.


But that's not an issue. bigger issue is that we finally know that some of us were right all along about adding " good contracts that will be eventually good assets in trades" was complete and utter BULL.

In order to upgrade roster and get rid of "good value KCP" and "good value Cole" Magic ended up paying 4 unprotected picks + 16 pick.

You wrong, it's 4 picks including this year's 16 pick and swap. Not 5 picks. So 4 picks and a swap. You are making seem like it's 5 picks & a swap

The best part of this deal is that Bane is locked up for 4 years. We have our core set. Hopefully the shooting and playmaking sorts itself out because Weltman has handcuffed himself to this core.
