I’ve noticed that as well. He doesn’t make bad decisions per se, but he isn’t necessarily an efficient scorer. As a volume scorer he’s going to have to get more efficient and make better decisions if he ever wants to be a lead guard.
Hard for me to see him as a lead guard. He's way closer to DJ Augustin than CJ McCollum.
You might be right. I think it's too early for those declarations though. CJ McCollum's first two seasons in the league were mired with similar problems as Anthony is having now. Anthony has been everything I've expected up to this point. If we go through '21-'22 and he's still struggling to finish to this extent or creating live ball turnovers, then I'll be concerned. But, IMHO, this is a huge learning curve for every rookie in the league. I've seen enough good stuff that I'm interested to see where this goes. Especially if Fultz's jumper never develops. Watching Darius Garland turn his career around after a disastrous rookie season is another example of us all needing to have patience with rookies.
This is such a uniquely weird season for all of these rookies to be thrust into. The absence of a summer league, shortened training camp and preseason, and the dearth of actual practice time during this season makes for a rough go for most of these rookies. I'm just glad that the team seems content to live with the growing pains while trying to develop Anthony and Okeke during the season.
Ehh, Garland's rookie year wasn't THAT bad. Still finished with 12 ppg/ 50% TS.
Garland also had no college experience whatsoever. He lasted for 5 games there, so he was greener than most of college guards.
My issue before draft, going into same issue after 5 games, is simply his shot selection. Among shots he menaged to make last night, there was some underhook spin -away from rim, 5 foot floating- throw in the air - thing. It's hard to even explain what he did. It's terrible shot that had no business going in. Another shot he made was off dribble, running - spinning mid range jumper.
Shots like that are flat out terrible and should be corrected to the point they won't be seen again. But with him it's repeating cycle from college. Him taking just horrendus shots.
