Maybe Weltman will do what Popovic did and step in and be the coach after being the GM, but Weltman is actually the president. Pop had perfect timing, to step in right before they drafted Duncan. Hammond has coaching experience. Being a GM you really learn the value of developing players.

We don’t know. I’d assume there was some sort of agreement. If not, then we’d be due compensation if he found another job. I think his head coaching career is done. I just can’t imagine he’d end up at the top of anyone’s list at this point.

No inside information, but now that we’re past the holiday, the timing seems to line up.

I agree. I think the Magic finish up their coaching search this week. The team needs to prepare for the draft. The coach and the suits above him all have to be on the same page and need time to formulate a plan.
