But in today's scenario, he dumped Rashard's contract.

.. and took Arenas'?

I think it's safe to say that trading for Hedo wasn't part of the plan. What we can be sure of is that Phoenix wasn't going to pull the trigger if Orlando didn't take Turkoglu back. That was pretty much the clincher for the Richardson swap to take place.

Yeah, but Arenas doesn't play the same position as Hedo... which Rashard basically did before he came to Orlando. I still believe getting Rashard in the beginning meant the end of Hedo in Orlando, but since the two of them thrived together, the original plans changed. The 4 outside, 1 inside line up was a novelty, but it didn't have real substance... the kind that gave us consistency. With no way to get rid of Rashard's contract, we couldn't afford to bring back Hedo, but we could afford to bring in Vince... Because they played different positions. Otis was looking for that guy who could break his man on isos better than Hedo could, and thought Vince would be that person. Unfortunately, he wasn't.

So no.... I don't see adding Arenas as an equal to Rashard's contract.

There's no way Arenas should be a 3rd option on this team. If we are going to subject him to this off-ball player role too then what the hell did we make this trade for?

I want to see Arenas pounding the ball and doing what we all expect him to do, which is score in bunches.

Lol. Is this a game of musical chairs to you?

I won't be surprised if Otis starts to pull some cap savings moves. In fact, I think he SHOULD pursue it. Remember who said it first. That's what I do. Shock people with the things I say, and then clap when it happens or people figure out that it needs to happen. ;)

take howard away, and his inside game/offense option, and you can see arenas (and j-rich) is our indeed 1st and 2nd options interchangeably.. so i wasn't saying anything otherwise.. howard will always be the first down-low scoring presence on this team, and the first person we look for, and everyone else will follow/defer

Agreed wholeheartedly. If you replace Carter and Lewis with JRich and Turkoglu in the starting lineup, that is a clear upgrade on paper offensively, probably a wash defensively. However, adding Arenas to the mix just confuses things. We now have 3 ball-dominant scorers who are at most the 2nd option on the team. We lost 2 of our 3 good defenders (now Howard is literally the only good defensive player left on the team).

Still, the old team was going nowhere. This team, at least, has a chance to be great if things gel.
Jason Richardson is not really a "ball dominant" player by any means. On the contrary, he's more of a guy who makes quick moves, catch and shoots and can create once in a while when needed. He can play well off the ball, and I'd think he's gotten better there from being in Phoenix.

One of the problems with him at SG has always been that his handle's were not that great where he could be an actual secondary ball handler on the court.

How this affects JJ depends entirely on two other factors. I am not buying Arenas coming off the bench for any protracted time so it would seem to me that either Jameer heads to the bench or Richardson goes to SF. So the effect on JJ doesn't seem to be all that much except that talk about him starting are now entirely out the window. If hedo started which I really can't see then that would affect JJ. then theres the matter of more players taking it to the hoop and defenders collapsing on them. JJ could actually be the benefactor of more kick outs.

Congrats on the trade! I'm definitely hopping on the Magic bandwagon as my Eastern Conference team.

As a Warriors fan, I'm happy to see Gilbert Arenas and Jason Richardson reunited. Back when they were in Golden State, they were the youngest starting backcourt in the NBA and seemed like they would have a great future together; when Gilbert left GSW and signed with the Wizards I became devastated.

I took like a 4 hour nap earlier today since I pulled an all-nighter last night, and when I woke up I turned on NBATV and saw that two of my favorite Warriors of all-time are now on the same team! The great thing is that they're on a team that can actually go deep in the Playoffs, I'm excited to see those two play together again. Good luck!

success cannot be attained without risk

the magic have now made the decision to be an up tempo squad,

Lewis for Arenas is a risk worth taking, Arenas can still play, Lewis cannot it appears

I think many are underrating us getting JRICH heres a guy that shoots a high field goal percentage from both 2 pt and 3pt range, he's a guy that can drop 25+ any given night

hedo, well he has sucked since leaving, but he also excelled in our system so maybe the fit is right

all in all the magic are a deeper, more athletic, and dynamic team than they were yesteday the bench is also better upgrading from MP3PTPIETRUS to Hedo
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Also, have the Magic looked into Troy Murphy? If Jameer Nelson becomes a trade option, something involving New Jersey and another team that brings in Troy Murphy might be good for Orlando. Not anything special defensively but he can shoot and rebound very well.

Though of course backup C is still a problem for you guys.

All we need is another capable big. So: how about varejão from cleveland for JJ and Duhon? They need to rebilt, tuia giga then Baco up PG and a SG Aldo they got out of a bad contract. We want defense and not worry about the cost.

Lebron was on board with every move the Cavs made also. Not saying Howard will leave, but this guarantees nothing.

What does your line up look like right now?

Are the Magic planning on having Gilbert starting at PG (with J-Rich at SG and Hedo at SF) and trade Nelson?

Or are they planning on having a Nelson/Gilbert backcourt, with J-Rich at SF and Hedo coming off the bench?

So if JRich don't resign with us, we basically gave away all our assets to Phoenix so they can dumped Hedo contract on us?
