If you count '08 (I guess you can, why not) this is the 3rd year of a healthy Turk/Nelson combo if they make it into the playoffs. '09 Magic Nelson was injured and '10 Magic didn't have Turk. So in '08 we were inexperienced and '11 we were discombobulated with no chemistry. In '12 you have experience and continuity allowing for a different result.

same plays in 08, same plays in 09, same plays in 11, same plays today. where is the chemistry breaking down? the only difference between those years has been individual levels of performance. 09 Meer was all star level. 08 and 09 Turk was all star level. 11 and 12 Turk are consistent with his averages for the last 3 seasons - and he's aging. with Meer, it's more likely that 09 Meer was the irregularity, rather than his current levels, given that they're more consistent with his career averages.

eyriq wrote:Accounting for their decline these two guys may be experiencing, Nelson is only 30 and Turk 32, not exactly grandpas (Dallas won with Kidd 37, Terry 33 for instance), and it isn't like either is known for their athleticism in the first place.

You can't assume that every player will continue at the level that Kidd/Nash/etc have all continued at. and here's the thing that separates Turk/Nelson from the guys you listed, and others. those guys averaged greater numbers over a longer period of time, and even though they all took a dip once they hit 30, they were still relatively high. Turk and Meer, OTOH, had a couple of exception years which some people are now trying to treat as a standard. Turk and Meer were never consistently on the level of Kidd/Pierce/Allen/Terry, and that's why their decline from bordering on those levels has impacted the team so much.

eyriq wrote:The idea that teams suddenly learned how to defend us is a myth, but I'll gladly check out your proof should you have any.The 4-1 offense is what it is, but it most definitely is a viable NBA offense or you wouldn't see SVG running it year in and year out, and you wouldn't see us winning 67% of our games with an offense in the top 15 year in and year out. Spare me that line.

Can good defenses defend us? This is a rhetorical question of course.

I don't have access to mysynergysports, but i'd wager that the number of teams that single cover Dwight these days, including the Hawks, has grown largely since Boston exposed that weakness originally.

also, it's not the greatest 'proof', but if you look through our team splits you'll notice that teams that have had our number in recent years have generally run us off the line and allowed fewer 3pt attempts. the number of teams doing that increases each year since 09/10.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/tea ... 12/splits/

as for why are we trying to same thing? why are we? you've shown that this team can average decent success, but that it has its limitations. why run with it again? even Dallas acknowledged their system needed something, so they went and got Chandler who gave them the defensive anchor the team had lacked all those years.

we STILL don't have that go to guy. we CAN'T expect any different results.

Teams are still waiting for Orlando to trade Howard before deals open up. Could be a slow deadline if that's what they're waiting for.

The Boston Celtics aren't actively shopping Ray Allen, but they're "accepting calls," according to one executive.

really??

Beas for Craw?

i wonder if Portland are going for some super capspace? if we pull a JJ for Wallace deal, they'll be close to having enough to offer Deron AND Dwight max deals, and possibly re-sign Batum using his bird rights.

Dwight
Aldridge
Batum
Matthews
Deron

Not sure they're moving Crawford for capspace, it's a widely help assumption he's hitting FA this summer and won't take his 5 million option for next season.

I am prone to be with the everyone else thinking we are cooked bandwagon. I have tried to stay positive, and I gave a valiant effort for 13 1/2 threads. But I can see Orlando gambling on letting Dwight walk, him doing so, then being stuck with our front office trying to draft our way out of this, while simultaneously over paying veterans trying to stay in the playoff hunt because DeVos does not want a full rebuild.

And Ellis did that without Curry in the back-court as the primary ball-handler... Ellis was playing PG the whole game for the most part, being the distributor and play-maker... he did a great job imo!
