Summer league is not a good measure of talent for players who are not scorers. Players like Franz and AB who do all the small things that help teams win, do not have their skillset highlighted and maximised when playing with other low level players.

Its gonna be alright people. We got a real one.

The thing about Franz's SL games is bit of difficult to really break down.

Guy was shooting 16,7% for 3 and SOMEHOW still shot 45% FG. Reason for it comes from fact that he shot 70% of all non-3 point attemps.

So , if he wasn't 2-13 for 3 but something normal for him, like 5-13, he would end up averaging 12 ppg ( and 55% FG).

And additional kicker comes from fact that he only played 21 mpg. For reference point, both Jett and Black averaged this year near 30 mpg ( 28,4 and 29,3).

Problem with SL is sample size, it's 2,3, 4 at max games of not very organized basketball and mess of data you get from it when you want to make any serious observation.
The team they put together was awful, the coaching was awful, and the spacing was awful.

The offense consisted of throwing the ball to the center at the top of the 3-pt line, and he was no threat to make an outside shot. No cutting. No pick and rolls. It was pretty much iso ball.

I am having a hard time finding stats for him beyond the one game. How has he been doing?\

edit : I managed to find last night and another nights box score and he looks good. Has he played anything else and am I just missing it?

Honestly, if the mission was to draft a F and not a eventual SG in Jett Howard then I think we passed up a good opportunity and I am worried we really really missed out unless there was something Jonathan Isaac worthy on the medical eval.

here are his games
7/13 - 11-21, 3-9 from 3, 26 pts, 8 steals
7/11 - 6-14, 1-8 from 3, 8 reb, 6 turnovers
7/9 - 9-16, 3-7 from 3, smattering of other stats
7/7 - 5-18, 1-6 from 3, 11 rebs

so better than avg. not great 3 pt shooting, assist numbers very low (we already knew he doesnt pass much). Whitmore actually is smaller sizewise than Jett, Whitemore just thicker at 235 lbs. at SF, he will be undersized and i dont know if he is quick enough at SG. A lot of teams passed on him, will be interesting to see how his rookie year goes. he will be fighting for minutes on that Houston team with a bunch of other young players.

There's a part of me that already believes that Kai Sotto already is in line for one of the contracts... Even with having not played in the last 3 games and used sparingly in the 4th. Something about how he looked in a clip cheering off the bench ...Gave me the vibes of someone that might already be secured. Lol

Well... Here's hoping!

One thing that stood out to me is that Whitmore looks small for what should be his position. That potentially limits him to a offense off the bench type player. Like all these rookies, we shall see when the real games begin.

I noticed the same thing. He doesn't look like he can play SG, and his 6'8" wingspan is small for a forward.

Wasn't he your favorite Magic prospect whole college season long? Despite fact everybody told you he is closer to 6'4 than 6'8

I knew how tall he was because he went to the combine and got measured. His wingspan is the red flag if he isn't able to play SG. Udoka may put him there anyway because he likes a bigger lineup. He played Brown at SG and Smart at PG when he was at Boston.

His red flag???? If you watched his college games, his red flag was that not only was he short, he was being put in as a POWER FORWARD in their team yet he gets 0 rebounds for 3 straight games that I watched. Not only that, his favorite move is to bully his way into the lane. In college he might get away facing against underdeveloped bodies, but in the league? He would bounce around if he does that.

We have a game tomorrow. Are we to assume AB and Jett are completely done and won't play?

I thought they didn't play because of back to back. Probably TBD.

That's what I'm hoping for. Guys like Bilal, Walker, Cason, and Lively are still playing.

I thought the reports were that he was absolutely lethargic in interviews and more worrisome, his medicals showed longterm concerns in his knees.

Pair all that with this being recognized as a deep class and GMs turned away fast.
